Zyppah Review: The Most Revolutionary Snoring Mouthpiece Ever

Zyppah is one of the best snoring mouthpieces that money can buy. It is right there in the league of the other best snoring mouthpieces we have reviewed on this website.

But there’s something else about Zyppah that makes it our favorite anti snoring mouthpiece.

Maybe it is Zyppah's unique design. Or it is probably because it combines both tongue restraining and jaw positioning to make it work.

But the fact is, Zyppah stands out a mile away from all other anti snoring mouthpieces in the market today.

If you haven’t got your hands on Zyppah Rx, we have a special discount for readers of Snorezing. Click on the button below to get 24% off on your next Zyppah purchase.

Zyppah’s unique design

Zyppah’s design will intrigue you. There is no debate about that. Unlike most of the other MAD’s in the market, Zyppah has a cool and sleek design. The unique design is complimented by the warm colours. The device features an attractive black and neon-green colour combo.

But that’s not all that is unique to this anti snoring mouthpiece. No. I wouldn’t be this excited if the design and eye-candy was all there was.

To say Zyppah is revolutionary would be an understatement. It is the only mandibular adjustment anti-snoring mouthpiece that tackles snoring by using a knockout double action.

Here is how Zyppah Works

The Zyppah snoring mouthpiece comes with a special feature that the manufacturers call “Revolutionary z-flex Technology.” In our simple understanding this technology is a tongue stabilizing strap that is located at the back of the mouthpiece.

In essence, Zyppah RX stops snoring by combining jaw adjustment and tongue stabilization, an approach that no other stop snoring device has so far adopted.

But do you really need tongue stabilization in order to stop snoring?

Most of us are used to Mandibular Advancement Devices, and the thought of a device that combines MAD with tongue stabilizing strikes us as a little strange. But technology is evolving fast, and tongue stabilizing devices (TSDs) are becoming quite popular.

AveoTSD is an example of a tongue stabilizing device that has received quite some positive reviews in the market.

But does the combination of the two make the anti-snoring device more effective?

Stop Snoring with ZyppahI don’t have any conclusive data to show that combining TSD with MAD makes an snoring mouthpiece more effective. I can only offer my experience with the device, and what struck me (after the excitement of buying a strikingly beautiful mouthpiece had waned off) was that I had acquired a torture contraption.

Every anti-snoring device takes time to get used to, and I was willing to continue test-driving Zyppah Rx even after I woke up with a very tender jaw after the first night of use. In addition, my tongue felt like it was in a strait jacket throughout the night. I didn’t wake up feeling rested like I had done when I used the Pure Sleep device.

But I refused to give up. You don’t give up when your wife is threatening to throw you out of bed if you do not find a permanent solution to your snoring.

So, I tested Zyppah over the next two weeks. And guess what? My tongue didn’t feel uncomfortable anymore and the tenderness on the jaws greatly reduced.  And I didn’t snore during the 14 days when I used Zyppah. But I drooled a lot! Most of the other Zyppah reviews that I have come across seem to make the same observations.

Would I recommend Zyppah? I definitely would. It is chic and functional, but you’ll have to bear with your tongue feeling like it’s in a straitjacket and a sore jaw until you get accustomed to the device.

Will Zyppah end my snoring?

Now, now, before you whip out your wallet for a quick purchase, I’d like to offer a disclaimer. Zyppah, like any other snoring mouthpiece, is not for everyone.

  • If you have full dentures, forget about using Zyppah or any other stop snoring devices
  • One missing tooth should be okay… but for a snug fit, Zyppah’s special band requires that all teeth be present
  • If you just had dental implants, consider waiting for at least 12 months before using Zyppah

If you do not have any of the following conditions but still find that Zyppah does not work as it should, you need to make sure that you followed the standard procedure for preparing boil-and-bite devices for use.

Custom fitting Zyppah Anti Snoring Mouthpiece

Although Zyppah looks different than many other MADs the process of preparing it for a custom fit does not differ. In order to set it, you will need: a mirror, two small bowls or mugs, tongs, a pot, and a stop watch.

  1. Before you start preparing Zyppah, it is advisable that you first rinse it with warm water and place it into your mouth to get its feel before you bite into its pliable material during preparation.
  2. Heat a pot of water, and bring it to boiling temperature.
  3. As you wait for the water to boil, pour ice into one of the bowls/mugs
  4. Transfer the boiled water into the other bowl/mug. It is important that you transfer water into a bowl as the device might be spoiled by coming into contact with the hot surface of the pot
  5. Using tongs, submerge Zyppah into the boiled water for 60 seconds. Use the tongs to hold the device into the water as it tends to float.
  6. Remove the device from the boiling water and let it cool for a few seconds. 20 seconds should be enough. Handle the device with caution at this step. The thermoplastic material tends to get very hot and sticky after it’s been submerged in boiled water.
  7. Before you proceed, understand which side should be up. The lower portion, the one that reads, ‘Zyppah’ should be the lower tray.
  8. While facing the mirror, place Zyppah into your mouth, starting with the lower tray/teeth. Ensure that your lower teeth align with the lower teeth line against the harder black plastic. Once your lower teeth are well aligned, push your jaw forward until the edge of your upper teeth are place against where the harder plastic meets the softer plastic in the upper tray.
  9. Once aligned bite down on the device and hold for at least one minute. You should feel your teeth deep into the soft thermoplastic.
  10. After one minute, carefully remove the Zyppah anti-snore device from your mouth and dip it into the bowl of ice for a minute.
  11. Once cooled, check to see that the device fits you. If it doesn’t, consider reheating it in boiled water and repeating the process.

Zyppah and Sleep Apnea

I can’t stress this strongly enough. The online version of Zyppah is not, and cannot, be used as an alternative treatment for sleep apnea. The device only use involves eliminating the sound of snoring. It does not treat any underlying issues that might be the cause of snoring.

Like with all stop snoring devices, it is wise if you consult your physician to determine whether you are simply a snorer or whether you suffer from sleep disorders such as sleep apnea.

What Else Do I need to Know?

Nothing much. Seriously, at this point you can order Zyppah online, and you’ll all the information you need to work with it.

However, if you are a facts-oriented person, here are a few fascinating ones:

  1. Zyppah is a brainchild of a long-serving dentist, Dr. Jonathan Greenburg. Greenburg has served as dentist for over 3 decades, and spent the last ten years studying sleep apnea and snoring. He currently runs 5 “Snore No More” centres in California.
  2. Zyppah is “Happy Z” spelled backwards! That is Happy Sleeping.
  3. There are two types of Zyppah anti-snoring mouthpieces available: The one that you can buy online (OTC), and others that you need to have a doctor’s prescription to purchase. These latter ones are custom fitted by a doctor in one of the 5 “Snore No More’ centres, and are used to treat sleep apnea.
  4. Zyppah is the only double action snoring mouth guard. It uses the tongue-stabilizing technology as well as the Mandibular Advancement technology to prevent snoring.
  5. And last but not least, Zyppah is FDA-cleared!

How Much Does Zyppah Cost?

Compared to the cost of snoring surgery, Zyppah’s $80-89 price tag almost feels like a drop in the ocean.

The cost is also flexible, allowing you to pay the whole amount at once or to first get a trial without paying the whole amount upfront.

If you go with the trial, you’ll be required to pay the shipping fee and you’ll have 30 days to test Zyppah. If you like it, and you’d like to keep it, your card will be charged $40 twice to bring the total cost of Zyppah at $90.

If you don’t like it, you can send it back to the manufacturer and no charges will be made on your card.

Other Zyppah RX Reviews

It is important that you read other Zyppah reviews before you make up your mind whether this is something you want. However, based from my experience, Zyppah is not only a revolutionary mouthpiece for snoring, but also a very effective one for that matter.

The fact that the manufacturers are willing to let you try it for $10 only also makes it among our very favourite anti snoring devices, right in the league of Pure Sleep and ZQuite.

Zyppah is a revolutionary snoring mouthpiece that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to my snoring friends. It has a sleek design and knockout anti-snoring functionality. I also like the fact that the manufacturers allow you to try Zyppah for 90 days risk-free.

best rollaway bed

What is a Roll-away Bed?

Also known as a folding bed, a rollaway bed is a type of bed that is most commonly found in hotels. They are wheeled into a guests room when there are more sleepers than beds. Ex. 5 people in a room 2 queen beds.

best rollaway bed

The most common type of foldable bed is a metal frame hinged in the middle for easy folding, storage, and maneuvering through hallways and into elevators.

The best rollaway beds are designed with a folding mattress that stays on the bed frame while in the folded position, making it all the more convenient.

As I stated previously, roll-away beds are very common in hotels. They are also a very popular option for people who may have house guests or visiting family members from time to time and don’t want to dedicate the space in their homes permanently for visitors.

Are there cheap rollaway beds?

Price ranges on the best roll-away beds will vary greatly depending on the comfort level and convenience you are looking for.

Models can vary greatly from a simple camping cot all the way up to a super-luxurious model complete with wooden headboard and foot board.

As with most things, you get what you pay for with a rollaway bed. A decent middle of the road model could conceivably set you back $200 to $300 dollars.

The most comfortable rollaway beds have a price tag of about $495.

Here are a few models of the best rollaway beds compared side by side to give you an idea of the differences in the prices. Click on the images to learn more about these models or to see more options

Cheap Rollaway Beds (under $100)

The best folding beds are a great way to add sleeping space if you have guests stay over. Unfortunately some of them can be quite expensive. Especially when you probably will not be using it that often.

But that does not mean that cheap rollaway beds do not exist. We have put together a quick list of options to help you find a rollaway bed under $100

Best fold away bed for the money

Sleep Master Folding Guest Bed

Your overnight guests will enjoy the luxury of this cheap folding guest bed.

The Sleep Master Folding Guest bed comes with 0.5 inches of fiber padding and 2.5 inches of base of Pressure Relieving Comfort Foam.

If compactness and lightweight influences your choice of a fold up bed, the Sleep Master Folding Guest Bed has them both. The bed weights a meagre 26 pounds. When folded, the width is 32 inches while the length is only 39 inches, which makes it portable in the back of a minivan.

Is it comfortable? It is better than having your guests sleep on the couch. However, this fold away bed lacks enough support towards the center. The base is made of canvas, and it kind of feels like you are sleeping on a tight hammock.

At its cheap price, I’d say the Sleep Master Folding Guest Bed is a worthy purchase. The price justifies the few drawbacks the fold away bed might have.

Coleman ComfortSmart Folding Cot

The Coleman ComfortSmart folding cot is another incredinly cheap rollaway bed. The bed retails for less than $100 on Amazon.

For the price you pay for this folding bed, we'd say it is a complete steal, although it is a bit smaller than the King’s Guest bed.

The overall dimensions are 69” long by 25” wide, so a larger guest may not be as comfortable sleeping on this bed.

However, this guest bed would be a nice convenience for camping or for a short term guest stay.

At 16 pounds the roll-away bed is very easy to move and store even in the smallest places.

JAY-BE Saver Folding Bed with Airflow Mattress (Regular)

Jay-be, the company, is synonymous with quality innovative folding bed, and that’s what the Jay-Be Saver Folding Bed with Airflow Mattress brings.

At less than a hundred dollars for the regular folding bed, this one is a steal! For a rollaway bed under $100 the Jay-Be Saver Folding Bed is a nice middle of the road option.

The mattress is what sets the bed apart. The mattress uses open cell structure technology, which allows it to breath. A mattress that breaths will stay fresher for longer. The comfort you get from the freshness is worth every penny you pay for this foldaway bed.

Talking of compactness, this folding bed is 100% portable and can be stored almost anywhere. It will fit in your closet, in your car’s trunk. And you can even squeeze it under your bed. The bed folds up so flat that storage and space will never be an issue.

The bed’s support is something else of a marvel. The frame not only offers full body support, but also guarantees durability.

At its price, this is a comfortable bed for the guests. It is way better than an inflatable air mattress that would leak out all the air at night.

A guest bed on stereoids!

best rollaway bed to buy

This is quite possibly the coolest guest bed I have ever seen.

It is the SimplySleeper Hideaway Guest Air Bed with Integrated Travel Case.

The bed sets itself up and takes itself down at the push of a button. No more fighting with a heavy bulky roll away guest bed. Simply hit the button and let the bed do the work.

The frame is engineered for durability and powder coated for long life.

The bed is rated to support a full 300 pounds and is long enough at 77.5″ to allow your adult guests to stretch out comfortably for a great night sleep. The SimplySleeper Hideaway Guest Bed comes in a twin size option and a queen size option.

When closed this Roll away guest bed is a mere 23.5″ x 14.5 x 20″. That’s less than 6 cubic feet! The compact size makes this a great choice for any size house or apartment. It weighs about 42 pounds, so the wheels come in very handy to move it from place to place.

As I stated before, not only does the bed self inflate, but it also deflates and retracts ready to be packed away into it’s own durable wheeled storage case.

The entire inflation process takes only 2 minutes.

This could come in hand for guests that arrive late at night.

The SimplySleeper Roll away guest bed won’t break the bank either. Both The Twin Size Bed and the Queen size are under $200. This prices the SuperSleeper less than some of the traditional, bulkier roll away guest beds.

If you are in the market for a roll away guest bed, you owe it to yourself to at least take a look at this innovative solution. Comparing overall size, cost, and storage options, this bed is on my “Best Bet” list for guest bed solutions.

Things to consider when looking for the right Rollaway bed:

iBed in a Box Hideaway Guest Bed

How will the Mattress hold out in the long run?

Three things to keep in mind about mattresses:

  • Mattresses are not meant to be folded.
  • Mattresses are not meant to be folded and re folded.
  • Mattresses are not meant to be folded for extended periods of time.

Rollaway beds do all three of these things to a mattress on a regular basis. So when you are buying your rollaway bed, Keep the mattress in mind.

You may want to go with a softer more flexible mattress to allow it to move. The firmer the mattress, the harder it will be to fold and store. Some rollaways come with an air mattress to allow the user to adjust the firmness and give it a smaller footprint.

Do I have a place to store it?

Some rollaway bed frames can be bulky and unsightly.

Make sure you have a spare closet or maybe a designated storage space for it in the basement when you aren’t using it. Sure, the bed folds up and out of the way when you are not using it, but that does not make it invisible.

Leaving it along the wall in a room is an OK short term plan for when the guests are there, but, Make sure you have a long term storage option before you make the purchase.

How difficult is it to operate?

Getting a rollaway bed into position for use should not cut into the operator’s sleeping time.

The better the bed, The simpler it will be to use. It should be as easy as unfolding and locking a few pieces into place. This is another feature that will be dictated by the price you pay.

The easier the setup, the more you will pay.

That is not to say that once you get the hang of cheap roll away bed, it won’t be quick to set up, but by the very nature of the thing, they are not used often and it is easy to forget how to operate if you don’t do it all the time.

How often will I be using it?

This point kind of goes with all of the previous sections. If you are going to be using the roll-away bed quite often and want the user to get a semi decent night sleep, the mattress on the bed will need to be of a better quality.

The more you put the bed up and take it down, the easier you will want it be to set up. If it is going to be used on a regular basis, storing it along the wall or leaving it set up for a while would not be as big of an issue for you.

Who will be using the bed the most?

Not to sound mean, but do you like the people that will be staying with you? How much? Enough to care about their comfort and the way they sleep?

Or are you afraid that if they get too comfortable they may just decide to stay?

Take into consideration the age of the user. Younger people can generally sleap on and through anything. They will be less likely to be affected by a lower quality mattress.

Older visitors may tend to be more affected by the quality of the rollaway bed. If they are already tough to get along with, you may want to splurge.

The best rollaway beds are a very nice option for sleeping space when the need arises. Make sure you consider these factors before making your final decision. By doing your homework and researching your options, you will be happier with your rollaway bed purchase in the long run.

Do they make Queen size folding beds?

Most of the time when you look for or think about the best rollaway beds the majority of the selection are twin beds. So the question arises…Do they make queen rollaway beds? The answer is, yes. Although not as popular as a regular twin rollaway bed, due to their size and storage issues, queen rollaway beds do exist and are very much available for sale.

What is the Difference Between Twin and Queen Rollaway Beds?

To answer that question, we really first need to start with what is the difference between a normal twin and queen bed?

Obviously the main difference is going to be the size. Here is a bed size chart that will give you a comparison of all bed sizes. The chart lists general sizes. These are not hard and fast measurements.

  • California King 72″ x 84″
    Queen Rollaway beds
  • King 76″ x 80″
  • Queen 60″ x 80″
  • Full or double 53″ x 75″
  • Twin or single 38″ x 75″

Why would I want a Queen Rollaway Bed?

Queen beds are larger for a reason. They are made for two people. So, if your newly married son brings his wife home, it might be nice to show your support for their marriage by having a rollaway queen bed ready for them.

Or, if your parents come to visit, a queen rollaway bed is a much nicer option than stacking them in the twins bunk beds.

Drawbacks of Queen Rollaway Beds

The big one. Size. Moving one of these monsters would be an issue in itself not to mention the setup and take down.

Storage also plays a big factor.

Are you going to have enough room for a rollaway queen bed folded in half. There are available options out there that work around this issue.

Recommeded Queen Rollaway Bed

Buying

This too goes along with size.

In most cases, you have to buy the queen rollaway  bed frame and the mattress separately. Together, it would just be too large to ship to the store and to your home.

Although queen folding beds with mattresses are still available, the purchase will just require some additional planning.

Choosing a rollaway mattress that goes with your bed

rollaway bed mattress

Choosing the correct rollaway bed mattress is very tricky because most of the time the person buying the rollaway bed is not going to be the person sleeping in the rollaway bed unless it is for a cabin or a vacation home.

Most of the time the people sleeping on the rollaway bed mattress are going to be guests and visitors.

Not knowing the firmness that a person prefers makes it as a difficult process to choose the perfect mattress for every situation.

The most common choices for a rollaway bed mattress are: innerspring, memory foam, and air mattresses. Here are the differences in the three.

Memory Foam Mattress

Most memory foam rollaway bed mattresses are a visco-elastic material surrounding a standard, firmer foam core.

Memory foam mattresses are very good at relieving pressure on painful joints, and they are usually more expensive than a standard sprung rollaway bed mattress.

The firmness of a memory foam mattress is determined by the temperature. In a cooler bedroom, the memory foam mattress will be firmer. The bed then conforms to the sleeper’s body gradually based on body heat.

Look at the Amazing price on this Memory Foam Mattress!

Innerspring Mattresses

An inner spring rollaway bed mattress consists of three components: the core, the foundation and the upholstery layers.

The core supports the sleeper’s body. The core is made up of steel springs called coils. The firmness of the mattress is factored by the number of coils in the mattress and the gauge of the steel used in making the coils. The firmer a rollaway bed mattress, the more difficult it will be to fold and store.

The foundation, much like it sounds, is what the mattress rests upon. A boxspring is the most common foundation in a traditional mattress, but a rollaway bed mattress will typically have a grid-top foundation made from either steel and wood or all steel.

The upholstery layers are what covers the spring core and gives the rollaway bed mattress it’s cushioning and comfort. This layer can contain fiber batting, traditional foam, memory foam, felt, cotton fiber, egg crate foam and a number of other materials to form the comfort layer.

Air Mattress

Air Mattresses are mattresses that contain one or more “bladders filled with air to provide support as opposed to coil springs.

The firmness of an air mattress can be adjusted by controlling the amount of air in the chamber. The more air, the firmer the mattress.

Care should be used when using an air mattress as a rollaway bed mattress as the foundation could puncture and deflate the mattress. Make sure when buying a rollaway bed frame that it is air mattress friendly.

Pimping Your Rollaway Bed- The Must Have Accessories

When most people think about a rollaway bed they don’t really think about the accessories to go along with them.

A rollaway bed isn’t like a car or a house or something that you really want to accessorize to show it off. It’s not a luxury item to be envied. It’s there for sleeping on. The right Rollaway bed accessories can enhance your ownership and protect your investment for the life of ownership.

Sheets

Do you have the right size sheets for your rollaway bed? Maybe all of the beds in the house are queens. Most rollaway beds are twins.

Having the right size sheet on the bed will make you look like a better host and give your guests better night sleep.

If you have ever tried to sleep in a twin bed with queen sheets, you know that in the morning you will most likely not have any sheets on the mattress at all.

Sheets are most definitely one of the rollaway bed accessories on your must have list.

Blankets

Like sheets, blankets are rollaway bed accessories that you should have on hand.

Build up asmall stockpile of blankets for your guests. Make sure you buy them like clothes, in layers.

A couple lightweight, a couple medium weight and a heavy weight blanket. You wouldn’t want to give your summer visitors a heavy winter blanket or your winter visitors a skimpy lightweight blanket.

Layers will make your guests more comfortable.

Dust Covers

Dust covers are very handy rollaway bed accessories.

If you’re going to be storing the rollaway bed for any period of time, it’s a must-have to keep your mattress clean and free of dust mites, excessive moisture and other allergens that might get into a mattress as it is in storage.

You want to be able to pull your rollaway bed out of storage and set it up without being embarrassed by the smell or having a guest hit it and have dust come flying out of it.

These rollaway bed accessories will prolong the life of your purchase and make ownership an easier and more enjoyable experience.

I don't want a roll-away bed. What are my alternatives?

Due to size or cost or other factors, it may not be possible to obtain a rollaway bed for your guests. But much like Christams, Your guests are coming and there is nothing you can do to stop them.

So, What rollaway bed alternatives are out there to help you get your visitors a place to sleep? (short of giving up your own comfy bed)

3 Rollaway Bed Alternatives

Camping Cots

Camping cots are usually a bit smaller than a standard twin bed, but can still be a great rollaway bed alternative. Cots usually don’t come with a mattress and the foundations are made of cloth.

The Frames can be made out of any material from wood to steel to fiberglass or aluminum. One nice advantage of a cot over a rollaway bed is the storage factor. A Cot folds up much smaller than a rollaway bed and can be placed almost anywhere.

See for yourself! the TETON Sports Camp Cot is not your Father’s Army Cot!

Air Mattresses

Air mattresses used to be a big air bag that deflated as you slept. By morning you were sleeping most uncomfortably on a vinyl mat on the floor.

But the best air mattresses of today are much better.

There are self Inflatable mattresses, bed height mattresses, Mattresses on frames and air mattresses with individual pockets.

Have you heard of the sleep number bed? Guess what? It’s an air mattress.

Like a cot, They are very easy to store once deflated and can be put back up in a matter of minutes. As rollaway bed alternatives go, the air mattress is probably the most economical option as well.

Take a Peek at some of the latest Air Beds on the Market

The Couch

Of the three rollaway bed alternatives in this article, this is probably my favorite option.

The hide-a-way bed. Couches with fold out beds have come a long way since I first slept on one back in the early eighties. Advances in mattress materials such as memory foam and more versatile framing materials have made the fold out couch a rollaway bed alternative that is almost as good as sleeping in a real bed…almost.

And it’s not just couches that that have fold away beds in them either. I slept on a fold away chair bed the night my oldest son was born, so if you are looking for space saving rollaway bed alternatives, look at couches and chairs.

Hey, you need those anyway why not get something that does double duty?

I’ll bet you’ve never seen a sleeper sofa like this before!

Buying vs renting roll-away beds

Rollaway beds are a convenient way to add extra sleeping space should you have unexpected company. You may want to purchase a new bed or you may want to look into renting rollaway beds.

Renting rollaway beds is an affordable option. You do not need to shell out a ton of cash for the use of the bed. I have seen companies that will rent a rollaway bed for as little as $10 per night. That is a huge savings over purchasing. Here are a few options to consider before renting rollaway beds.

Points to ponder before Renting Rollaway Beds

How Many Beds Do I Need?

The number of beds you will need will greatly influence this decision. If Jimmy is coming home from college and you have turned his bedroom into an office, buying may be a better option. If you are hosting a fraternity or sorority reunion and you find you are in need of 20 extra beds for the weekend, renting rollaway beds is the way to go

Click Here to See Some of the Many Options Available in Rollaway Beds

Is This a One Time Thing?

In the aforementioned example of Jimmy coming home from college, chances are it will not be a one and done situation. He may be coming home every weekend for four years. If you want to keep your new office, you will probably want to buy your rollaway. If it is a one time deal like the reunion, you are not going to want to shell out the cash, or have the room to store the beds when done. Renting would be the better option.

Do I have the Storage Space?

As I said previously rollaway beds are convenient and fold up when not in use but that doesn’t mean they become invisible. If you have the space to store a rollaway bed the means by one but if space is a limitation you probably want to consider renting or borrowing a rollaway bed from a friend neighbor or a company this specializes in renting rollaway beds.

Keep these factors in mind when you’re looking at making a decision between purchasing and renting rollaway beds. They can help you make the right decision.

That’s mean that there are relatively little details that can break down.

The milk steamer wand is very effective. However I have to admit that it is maybe too close to the body of the machine and fairly short. To improve this imperfection you can put your machine on the little stand to make more easy milk frothing. To receive better frothed milk you would better rotate pitcher around the wand instead of moving up and down. It could take several times of trying but it is worth to try to improve this skill. But if you don’t like the quality of frothed milk you can buy additionally frothing wand for about $10 and receive the exact result as you want.

DeLonghi EC5 has 1-year limited warranty.

I can definitely affirm that DeLonghi EC5 does what it should for the price.

2

DELONGHI EC155 ESPRESSO MAKER

For the money DeLonghi EC155 espresso maker is very good gadget. It is easy to operate and it works great. Instructions are very clear and easy to follow step by step. It is important at the very beginning always follow instructions. So you can avoid from unpleasant surprises.

Size of water reservoir is appropriate. Before refilling reservoir you can make about 8 shots of espresso. Moreover, water reservoir in the front of the machine on the left side behind the steam wand has water level window. So you always can control water level in your machine. Water reservoir is very easy to remove and put back after filling with water.

DeLonghi EC155 has built-in plastic tamper. However when you tamp with it you have to hold your machine to avoid overturning. I still suggest buying separate temper.

If you think that your steam wand is too close to the body and you can hardly operate to froth your milk than you could consider buying a counter top space-saving shelf. Then you can put your espresso machine on the top of it and ease operating with steam wand.

DeLonghi EC155 doesn’t have automatic control of the amount of coffee in the cup. So you have to decide when your shot is done.

DeLonghi EC155 has espresso pod adapter therefore you can use not only ground coffee but almost E.S.E. pods (easy serving espresso pods).

DeLonghi EC155 has one year limited warranty. However there are some reviews where people claim that performance of this machine after one year of intensive use worsens.

However, even if it is so and you would have to replace this machine after a year of exploitation it is worth if you will count amount of money you spend during one year even if you buy just one espresso a day in Starbucks.

3

DELONGHI BAR32 RETRO PUMP-DRIVEN 35 OUNCE ESPRESSO MAKER

DeLonghi BAR32 is very great machine for the price and it is extremely easy to use. DeLonghi BAR32 is relatively small, heats quickly and has round shape which looks very homely.

Size of water reservoir is 35 ounce that allows you make about 8 espressos or 4 cappuccinos before refilling. Water tank is completely transparent and it is placed behind espresso machine. Removing and putting back water tank is very easy. As water tank is completely transparent you always will be sure that it is full or empty.

DeLonghi BAR32 has espresso pod adapter. So you can use not only ground coffee but almost E.S.E. pods (easy serving espresso pods).

Delonghi BAR32 has built-in plastic tamper. I have to admit that it isn’t very convenient and it would be better to buy separate temper. However, if you decide to use built-in temper than you have to remember every time push down on the top of the machine so that it won’t fall over.

Steam wand works very well. But if you decide that it isn’t fairly convenient you can put your machine on the counter top space-saving shelf. That helps you easier operate with steam wand.

If you don’t have such shelf or you can’t afford to buy one you can place your machine near the side of the shelf or table.

Cleaning of DeLonghi BAR32 is pretty easy and the same is descaling.

DeLonghi BAR32 has 1-year limited warranty what is pretty reasonable.

4

DELONGHI ESAM3500.N. MAGNIFICA DIGITAL SUPER-AUTOMATIC ESPRESSO/COFFEE MACHINE

Super-automatic means exactly that operating with it is super easy and all works fully automatically.

Moreover the super automatic machine tells you everything that it needs. There is digital control panel with programmable menu settings in the front of DeLonghi ESAM3500.N. You just have to be careful to take notice what it needs and you will know when you need to add water, coffee beans, descale it, etc.

Magnifica super-automatic espresso machine ESAM3500.N prepares espresso, cappuccino or latte in very easy way – you just have to push button. Everything is so easy! As the result you get very tasty beverage.

There are five coffee strength settings – extra mild, mild, regular, strong an extra strong. You just have to experiment which strength level you prefer. Additionally there are three settings of cup size – small or ristretto, medium or espresso and large or Americano.

You only have to select strength and size of cup you prefer. As you see DeLonghi ESAM3500.N. is really very easy to operate. Besides, machine rinses itself after you turn it on and before turning off.

Water tank is removable and you can fill in 60 ounce of water.
This machine is a bit noisy but first of all that is because of built-in grinder. However coffee grinders usually are noisy. As it was mentioned above this machine tells you when you have to refill coffee beans. Grinder grinds coffee beans instantly before brewing espresso. If you would like, you can use already grounded coffee. Then you just have to fill in as much ground coffee as you are going to brew. Brewing system is quite compact and easy removable for cleaning.

Milk frothing system is convenient. Frothed milk run out directly into your cup and then DeLonghi ESAM 3500.N. makes espresso and puts it in the same cup. However there are many complains in reviews about very low temperature of produced steamed and frothed milk. That is about 120 degrees F. In case if you like very hot cappuccino or late this doesn’t satisfy you.

There is an additional important thing you have to take to account before buying DeLonghi ESAM3500.N. The coffee bean lid opens upward. In such a way total height of the espresso machine is about 18 inches. Its matter if you have small kitchen or limited place to put your appliance.
As more complicated espresso machine is as larger is probability it could break. The good news is that DeLonghi has more repair shops for warranty service than any other manufacturer. This is expensive espresso machine but well worth the price.

Cleaning of DeLonghi ESAM3500.N. Magnifica is not very complicated. Automatic decalcification indicator lights let you know when it’s time to clean the machine. Still I really recommend you following manual suggestions of cleaning order at least the first several times.

Super automatic espresso machines have sophisticated mechanisms to allow you enjoy heavenly espressos every time almost without any effort but they require much responsible attitude in everyday exploitation.

A stop snoring mouthpiece is one of the best devices that can help you stop snoring.

The advantages of a snoring mouthpiece is that it is cheap, easy to use, convenient, provides instant snoring relief, and it won’t cause any serious health complications and problems later on.

So, which are the best stop snoring mouthpiece devices in the market today.

Here are some of the best and most popular mouthpieces for snoring that you can buy. We’ve reviewed each product so that you can choose what’s best for you.

PureSleep-Anti-Snoring-Mouthpiece

PureSleep Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece

The PureSleep Company has developed a device that comes highly recommended.

While the PureSleep mouthpiece is a Class II medical device and does require a prescription from a licensed dentist or physician it is easier to order than many other similar devices.

Pure Sleep Instructions

Many madibular repositioning devices call for fitting by a dentist, but the PureSleep is much simpler.

You design a custom fit by immersing the mouthpiece into boiling water and molding the device in to the shape of your own mouth following a step by step instruction guide that is part of the kit. And you save and time on money on having a perfectly fitted device that reduces snoring.

SnoreMeds Mouthpiece

snorng mouthpiece

Like other anti snoring mouthpieces, SnoreMeds is designed to combat snoring by pushing gently and holding your jaw bone forward.

This opens the respiratory tract in the throat so the airway to the lungs is unobstructed and no vibrations are created while you breathe.

Compared with other anti snoring mouthpieces, the reviews for SnoreMeds ™ are so far positive. More than 85% of the users who have reviewed this device agree that it works as advertised.

There is a chance of gum and jaw pain while using the device as your mouth needs to get used to it and maintain for one position for eight hours of sleeping and you need to have several nights to get used to it. But it shouldn’t pose a problem as SnoreMeds ™ can be molded according to your mouth.

To mold the mouthpiece you simple immerse it in hot water to soften it (as it’s made from hypo – allergenic thermoplastic) and mold it with your mouth and the spatula included in the packaging. Remove it and immerse in cold water to set the shape. The result; cured snoring with a mouthpiece that is custom molded for your jaw!

Zquiet

zquiet reviews

Zquiet is one of the best anti snoring mouthpieces available in the market today.

The device has passed rigorous consumer safety tests, and I can confidently vouch for it.

Unlike other cheap snoring mouthpieces, Zquiet is soft and flexible. It allows your mouth to move naturally and allows you to breathe easily through your mouth.

It also uses the popular boil-and-bite molding, which means it can be easily fitted into your mouth.

Snore Ex Snoring Mouthpiece

Snore-Ex is an anti snoring mouthpiece and sleep apnea cessation aid that many have found helps them without the expensive of a dental visit to have a mandibular advancement device custom made.

Since snore ex holds the jaw in place at night, it also brings relief to those suffering from TMJ, or a pain in the temporomandibular joint. This affects the muscles at the point where the lower jawbone meets the skull. Snorers who suffer from both conditions have found relief using this appliance.

The pluses for snore ex over other anti-snoring mouthpieces is the pliable material it is made of instead of a harder plastic, and the opening at the front which makes airflow possible.

As with any device it can take an adjustment period to get used to wearing Snore Ex, and since the device is small, and easy to fit this is less of a problem. Most users report better sleep a few nights after they begin use.

Good Morning Snore Solutions

Good Morning Snore Solution is created to stop snoring, and it works quite effectively if you ask me or my wife.

Not only is the mouthpiece easy to slip into your mouth, but it is also relatively comfortable compared to other cheap snoring mouthpieces.

It is the easiest way to help you get rid of the snoring noise that you are hearing every day. It can also give you a comfortable feeling than any of the snoring mouthpiece devices that can find in the market today.

Clinical Studies

A research was done to gauge the effectiveness of the Good Morning Snoring Solution. This research was conducted by researcher of Calgary Dental Dr. Leslie Dort (MSC, DDS, DIP ABDSM) and has been published on Journal of Sleep and Breathing, May 2008. The results are summarized below

Surgery is one option for stopping snoring but they are very expensive and invasive. In this economy, spending less is essential and if your snoring problem has come to a point that it affects your quality of life but you don’t have the money to spare, a mouthpiece is a great alternative. They work and are affordable. In the slight chance that a mouthpiece is not effective for you, the companies that sell them usually have money back guarantee so you can just return it.

Eliminating snoring can greatly improve the quality of your life. The use of a mouthpiece, or any other snoring aids, is highly recommended if you or someone who sleeps next to you is snoring.

Best Window Fans Reviews and Expert Buying Guide: 2017

0

As you may have guessed, the best window fans fit on your window(s).

What do you do when your quest to cool down eats away at your energy bills? Simple, you do away with those energy guzzling fans and replace them with cheaper and more energy efficient window fans.

A majority of other fans cool you by blowing air directly towards you. Window fans work differently. They cool a room by bringing in cool air from the outside. They also keep the room fresh by sucking out the stale air.

They can either be manually reversible or electrically reversible. The former needs to be shifted so as to change the direction of airflow while the latter automatically changes airflow by the flip of a switch.

There are those that have multiple independent blades that work simultaneously to exhaust stale air and/or draw in cool air while others just have a single set of blades.

Choosing a good window fan can be a hectic process and a lot needs to be put into consideration. Read along and you will be sure to choose the very best of window fans.

BIONAIRE TWIN REVERSIBLE AIRFLOW WINDOW FAN WITH REMOTE CONTROL

This is one of the most powerful window fans available in the market. Its two fans can work together or independently to bring air in or draw stale air out. In so doing, it keeps the house cool and fresh.

The Bionaire Twin Window fan has 3 distinct airflow settings all of which are quiet making ideal even for the bedroom.

It has a LED screen which allows you to see the selected settings. In addition, it also has a remote control so you can switch from setting to setting while in the comfort of your bed or couch.

You don’t have to worry about it fitting since it comes with extenders which makes it possible to fit in different sized windows.

The fan is made of durable material and you don’t have to worry about replacing it every summer.

BIONAIRE COMPACT WINDOW FAN

This fan is as sleek as it is attractive and comes in black. It features 3 fans which work together to either cool and/or freshen your home. It is efficient and quiet enough to sleep through while it’s on.

It has extenders which make it possible to be installed in windows of different sizes. In addition, it can fit in windows that open vertically or horizontally.

The only down side is that it doesn’t come with a remote and as such you have to set it manually. It however has 3 airflow settings.

HOLMES DUAL BLADE TWIN WINDOW FAN WITH ONE TOUCH THERMOSTAT

This window fan has 2 airflow settings. Its strong blades ensure a steady and strong flow which results to a high cooling effect. The Holmes Dual Blade Twin Window Fan sucks stale air out and blows in cool air. It especially comes in handy if you live with a smoker as it gets rid of the stuffiness.

Another plus for the Holmes Window fan is the fact that it has a programmable thermostat which allows you to set the time for the switch between high and low speeds. This saves you the trouble of having to wake up every so often.

LASKO 2138-8” ELECTRICALLY REVERSIBLE WINDOW FAN

This Lasko Window Fan comes with 2 speed settings which can be adjusted by a thermostat. It also features extended panels making it ideal for different sized windows (25-35” W and 12+” H).

It is whisper quiet and also comes with snap-On feet for table or floor use.

Air King 9166 20” whole house window fan

This fan is powerful and extremely durable. It is rust proof, shatter proof and corrosion resistant which extends its life span a great deal.

Fits windows 27-38” W and 26.5” H. It features 3 speed settings and could be yours for $154.93.

Before I let you know what to look for in the best window fans, let’s first determine whether your house is ideal for them.

As stated earlier, window fans work differently from other fans. They draw the cool air from outside to reduce the room temperatures. As such, if your house happens to be near a polluted area, avoid its use as it will only draw in the pungent smells.

In addition, if you happen to live in a congested area, chances are the outside temperatures are always higher than those inside. Using window fans in such a house will do the exact opposite of what you expect; it will heat up your house instead of cooling it.

If your house is ideal for a window fan, let’s help you pick the best fan. If it isn’t you can thank me for saving you the money and trouble of installing it.

Factors to consider when choosing a window fan

The fan’s size

Window fans are fitted on the windows. Therefore, it is important to get one that will fit best if not perfectly.

Having a fan that doesn’t fit could make it topple over and force you to buy another one. An ill-fitting fan could also lead to local circulation where the same air is drawn back and forth.

To avoid this, seal the gaps between it and the window using a masking tape, paper or cardboard.

This is important especially for fans that draw air from outside. If the gaps are open, a pressure difference occurs and the air will go back outside hence you won’t get all of that cool air you desire so much.

Safety

Buy a window fan that has a screen. This will prevent intruders such as insects and rodents from gaining entry into your home. In addition, the screen will also prevent criminals from using that window as an entry point.

The fan’s features

Consider buying a fan that has features such as;

· Remote control- this will save you the trouble of having to wake up every time you want to change a setting.

· Speed settings- a fan with a wide range of speed settings is always better as it gives you the power to control how much air you want draw in or sucked out.

· Multiple blades- fans that come with twin or triple blades increase the rate of airflow in or out of your house. Furthermore, such fans can both draw in and suck air out at the same time as opposed to single blade fans which can only do one at a time.

· Quiet- while at work your fan should be quite enough to enable you sleep, have a conversation or watch TV.

· Extenders- most people don’t carry around tape measures so you are forgiven for not knowing your exact window measurements.
For that reason, get a fan with extenders as they are sure to fit your window.

· Duo direction fitting- a fan that can fit horizontally or vertically is best. If it doesn’t fit vertically, you simply rotate it and fit it horizontally.
Water resistant- this is for those who live in areas that experience rainfall. We all know that water and electricity is a recipe for fire.

The fans power

The best window fans should be powerful enough to draw in large amounts of air and/or suck out all the stale air from your house to leave it cool and fresh. Goes without saying that the more powerful the fan, the cooler and fresher the room.

How much does the fan window cost

Some fans are more expensive than others though not necessarily more effective. Besides, you need to keep in mind that a fan is not an investment that will gain you money. Buy a fan that is reasonably priced and one you can comfortably afford.

Consumer reviews

How do you know whether that fan you want actually works as the manufacturer’s claim? You simply look up what existing consumers have to say about it. It is not uncommon for products not to live up to consumers’ expectations.
In doing so, you may save yourself money or end up getting the best value for your money.

Conclusion

Part of the reason why window fans are popular is their ability to save energy which translates to reduced power bills.
With the ever-increasing bills to pay, a relief is most welcome. In addition, they are very effective in cooling and freshening your home.

As if they were not awesome enough, they can supplement or replace your air conditioner which saves you more money.

A good product should always give you value for your money and that is exactly what window fans do. Get yours today and drop a few degrees the economical way!

Best air mattress for everyday use | Unbiased inflatable bed reviews

0
best inflatable bed

I have already reviewed some of my favorite rollaway beds as well as the best stairway bunk beds. In today’s review, I’d like to shed light onto the best air mattresses for everyday use.

1. Aerobed Guest Choice Airbed Review

blow up mattress target

We all have those unexpected guests that arrive and we cringe at the thought of having to give up our own bed. With the Aerobed Guest Choice, you don’t have to.

The Aerobed Guest Choice Air Bed is as close to a real bed that you will get.

The air mattress is awesome for those unexpected guests and even the ones that are expected. It’s also great for sleepovers and slumber parties that your kids may have as well. It’s the perfect thing for when those people come to visit.

What we like most about the Aero Guest Choice Air Bed

  • It saves them the price of an expensive hotel or motel.
  • It’s more comfortable: It puts your guests in a near home environment. This is also a great blow up mattress to take camping with you. It’s almost as comfortable as any bed at home, and I am sure better than a hotel bed.
  • It is compact: It will fit in most tents or in the back of a pickup. Take it with you when traveling and see just how much money you can save in motel bills.
  • It is durable: The Aerobed Guest Choice is made out of a puncture resistant heavy gauge material and a PVC vinyl. There is no doubt it is strong and durable and can withstand a lot of stuff. The velvety material on top of it makes for a wonderful sleep as well.

The AC pump that comes with this Aerobed Guest Choice will have the bed inflated in less than 60 seconds. This is great as there is no standing around for hours waiting for the bed to inflate. It’s a pleasure to have it so quick and easy to set up.

All too often way too much time is spent trying to set up a blow up mattress. Not the case with this one. It s also just as easy to deflate and takes about 30 seconds. The AC pump is easy to use and is airtight.

2. Coleman SUV Quickbed– Best Air mattress for camping

coleman queen air mattressColeman makes the best camping air mattresses and again I found a great one from Coleman for car camping, the Coleman SUV Quickbed!

With so many ‘best’ air mattress options available in the market, you really have to be careful in choosing what will be best for you.

Adjustable length
The length of this air mattress is just right to fit most SUVs like Tahoe, Suburban, Xterra, Explorer, Trailblazer, Honda Element, 4Runner, and Dodge Durango. But if you have a shorter space, this air mattress can also be filled up partially because it has separate chambers – one long and one short one.

As for the width, it’s more or less like a twin sized bed so it won’t fill up the whole back of the SUV, but it’s wide enough for one adult, and about as comfortable as any air mattress.

This air mattress is also great for tent camping because the bottom plastic surface keeps away moisture and dirt while you sleep, and is very easy to wipe clean!

Need a Pump

You’ll have to buy a manual pump for this air mattress if you haven’t got one already. But that’s not a big deal because you can get one for as little as $10 – $15. Add that to the price of this Coleman Quickbed and it is not even the price of an Aerobed.

After I told my friend about this, he bought it, and he has been camping in it ever since. In a summary, this is an affordable, easy to use and clean air mattress that is great for sleeping in an SUV.

3. Wenzel Insta Air Bed– Most convenient air mattress

best air mattress bed reviews wenzel insta airWenzel Insta-Bed signifies quality when it comes to inflatable beds and air mattresses.

Have you tried using a hand held air pump for over twenty minutes just to inflate your air mattress? If you have, then you are not probably using the Wenzel inflatable bed.

The Wenzel is among the most well known queen sized inflatable beds available in the market today. What sets it apart from other brands is that it can be adjusted with ease through its comfort system.

Its height, convenience, and comfort are the very features that everybody needs from a portable bed.

Why this air bed is the best

The Wenzel Insta-Bed is very flexible. You can use it as your temporary sleeping mattress, guest bed for holidays, or for camping trips. Another wonderful quality about the Queen Raised Sure grip is that you can save so much time while using it.

Inflating and deflating can transpire in just a few minutes thanks to its built-in pump system. It can inflate the bed to its right size in two to four minutes.

Unlike other inflatable mattresses wherein you still have to attach the pump, the Wenzel’s controls can be easily accessed at the bed’s head and are slightly buried in the bed. It also comes with an easy slot for storing the 120V AC plug when you are done inflating it.

An apparent benefit of the Wenzel Insta-Bed and its amazing built-in pump is that manual inflation is no longer necessary.

~Verdict

You do not need to buy a separate air pump and vehemently use your energy just to inflate the mattress. With the Wenzel bed, all you need to access are two boldly marked controls (Inner chamber and Outer Chamber) for adjusting the dual air chambers.

Its inflation and deflation controls make it so easy and fast to fill up the mattress, remove all air and store it thereafter, or add and remove air for adjustments.

If it is convenience you are looking for, I recommend you get this everyday use air matrress now.

best air mattress for everyday useAll of these things coupled with the fact that most inflatable air mattresses are not known for being that durable, so if you are going on a lot of camping trips or maybe you are just a bit rougher with your beds when you are sleeping in the middle of the night.

5. Intex Raised Downy Airbed With Built-in Electric Pump

The Intex Raised Downy Airbed is the finest blow up mattress on the market, at least in the opinion of this sleeper. We all need to sleep, right? So, why am I so hyped about this Airbed? Let me share with you my experience.

best inflatable bed reviewsI was an avid camper and had enjoyed camping since my youth. About three years ago I was involved in an accident that had affected my back and neck.

The days of camping and sleeping in a backpacking sleeping bag were over. I would never consider the use of a Recreational Vehicle and every camping cot I had tried out left me stiff and sore.

For this reason I haven’t been able to enjoy the outdoors. When my friend mentioned the Intex Raised Downy Airbed as an option, I immediately told him, “No thanks.”

I had tried several air mattresses early on in my attempts to remain camping. Although I slept better and my back felt relatively fine the exercise in preparing the airbed and then breaking it down for storage was a hassle and cumbersome.

My friend was very persistent.

He went as far as to purchase the Intex Raised Downy Airbed as a gift. I accepted the gift but not with the intent to use it for camping. My friend wasn’t having any of it. After constant reminding and badgering on his behalf, I reluctantly agreed to hit the mountains for a weekend camping trip.

My Experience with the Intex Raised Downy Air Bed Review

Stocking up on pain relievers, I packed my normal camping gear and tossed the still boxed inflatable air mattress in the back of my truck.

Frankly, this was the first camping trip I set out on feeling agitated and ready for a horrible weekend.

I even rehearsed how I was politely going to tell my friend, “I told you all inflatable air mattresses are a hassle and not worth the effort.”

I was prepared to spend more time setting up and taking down the airbed then enjoying the outdoors.

That evening I was ready to break out the Airbed and begin the arduous task of getting ready to turn-in. To my surprise the Intex Raised Downy Airbed (with Built-in Electric Pump) was compact and easy to fill. The entire process took minutes and left me amazed at the ease and speed in which I was able to set up.

That night, I slept almost as well as I do on my best mattress at home. I woke up relatively pain free, in good spirits and ready to start the day. One thing stood in my way and that was putting the Airbed away.

I entered this leg of the try-out with a better attitude after the set-up turned out to be such a breeze. I was not disappointed. The Airbed deflated quickly, folded simply and stored easily.

I have used the Intex Raised Downy Airbed for the past year and have been camping three times during this stretch. It is so great o be back in the wilderness either under the stars or in a tent.

I highly recommend this Airbed for anyone looking for an Airbed no matter your need. This versatile and multi-use Airbed is sure to fit all needs. Great Airbed, I have never been more pleased with a product before.

How to Choose the Best Air Mattress

1. Purpose
Are you using it for camping or as a guest bed?

2. Size
Select the size for the air mattress. Just like standard mattresses, air mattress sizes come in twin, queen and king. Most people don’t go for king size because they would be heavier and less portable.

There are also air mattresses which are made up of two twin beds that can be connected together or separated as you like. This kind is more versatile to accommodate the number of guests, and is cheaper to get than two separate twin beds. Check out the Coleman 4-in-1 Quickbed.

3. Raised or On the floor
Raised air mattresses give the comfort of being higher from the ground and easier to get into. Raised air mattresses are also called air beds, because they are more like beds when inflated. But they are a bit heavier than the simple air mattress.

4. Manual pump or Built-in pump
Would you like a built-in pump? Self-inflatable air mattresses are very convenient because you just have to press a switch or button to inflate the air mattress.

If the air mattress doesn’t have a built-in pump, you will either have to blow it up (lung power!) or use an electric pump powered by battery or power outlet. If you’re going to blow it up, get one with a one-way valve.

5. Time of inflation and deflation
You might want to check how long it takes for the air mattress to inflate and deflate. Deflation time might be important if you use the air mattress somewhere you might have to leave in a hurry.

6. Other features
Remember that the more features an air mattress has, the higher its price, so pick only the features you need. Here are some air mattress features:

Memory foam – Adds to comfort because it reacts to body heat and molds to the shape of the body.

Dual chambers – Some queen and king size air mattresses have dual air chambers so that each person can adjust the firmness on his/her side.

Remote control – Adjust the firmness of the air mattress with a remote control. I’d say this is not a necessary feature at all, because you can reach for the switch just as well.

Repair kit – Some air mattresses come with a repair kit, for you to repair leaks.

Warranty – Check whether your air mattress comes with a warranty. Don’t buy one without a warranty.

Top rated 3-wheel baby strollers 2017: Reviews and Buying Guide

0
baby strollers 3 wheel

Three wheel baby strollers are becoming more and more common, and not just the jogging variety. What is known in the stroller industry as all-terrain models are being produced by just about every major manufacturer.

The advantages of this design are many. They are often bigger, with a larger distance between the back wheels that creates a really stable base. But their single front wheel makes maneuvering much easier.

The overall design of the top rated 3-wheel baby strollers makes them well suited for off-road excursions as well as uneven sidewalks.

Most 3-wheel baby strollers have soft, air-filled tires that provide a comfortable ride for your passenger on a variety of surfaces and also make stroller much easier to push.

The stability, ease of steering, and comfort is appreciated even by those parents who don’t need a serious jogging stroller. These all-terrainers may look like joggers but you should check the user’s manual to see if it is advisable to actually use it for running with your baby.

You should also check on the age requirements because most are not recommended for babies under six months old.

Generally, pediatricians recommend that a baby can support its neck and sit up independently before using this type of stroller. There are exceptions to this guideline: the Maclaren MX3 is one of them.

On the plus side, some all-terrain strollers can accommodate heavier children than standard strollers, allowing you to use them for a longer duration.

Some disadvantages of all-terrain models is that they are often large and heavy, making them an impractical choice for traveling. Another downer is that the air-filled tires can go flat so you’ll need a bicycle pump. But if you’re the rugged outdoorsy type that is drawn to this type of stroller, your probably have a bike pump already.

Most of the best 3-wheel baby strollers range in price from $80 to more than $700.

WHAT SHOULD YOU CONSIDER WHEN BUYING EAR PLUGS FOR SLEEPING?

If you are wondering here are the basic things to look for in sleeping earplugs

HOW EFFECTIVE ARE THE EARPLUGS?

The best earplugs for snoring should block out most, if not all, noise.

That’s why you are buying them in the first place. They should have a rating of ideally 30NRR and above (the highest has a rating of 34NRR).

Snoring earplugs made from foam and wax have so far proven to be the most effective. When inserted into the ear properly (regardless of how small your ear is) the foam expands forming an airtight seal blocking out most if not all noise.

Those made from wax work in a similar way. They are also very soft and do not make your warm and oily

COMFORT- CAN YOU SLEEP WITH THE EARPLUGS IN YOUR EARS?

It is not bad to sleep with earplugs every night, if you are doing it to save your marriage or your eardrums from damage by snoring.

But if you thought sleeping near a snoring person is bad, try putting on uncomfortable earplugs.

They are intolerable.

They apply pressure on the eardrum. The pain from such pressure is excruciating, and they may even cause a condition known as ear barotrauma.

Good earplugs should fit into your ear canal perfectly. They should neither stick out like antennas nor go too deep. They should also not leave a space between them and the ear. Ideally they should form an airtight seal. If they don’t, they will let in the snoring noise.

When buying earplugs, make sure they are the right size for your ears. Some of us have smaller ear canals than others, it is therefore important to choose those that are your size.

In short the best earplugs for snoring should offer you the maximum comfort regardless of your sleeping style while at the same time blocking out the irritating snoring noise.

DURABILITY

This goes without saying. You don’t want to log into Amazon, Ebay or Walmart looking for replacement earplugs after every few months.

Although most earplug brands are quite affordable, what you settle for should give you value for your money.

It should be reusable, withstand cleaning and maintain its shape and size after a few uses.

The top rated sleeping earplugs

3M EAR Classic EarPlugs

3m ear classic sleeping earplugs

The EAR Classic earplug is probably the most popular earplug on the market today. It has been available to the consumer for more than 30 years, and was the first foam earplugs to ever be manufactured.

Almost everyone who reviews sleeping earplugs knows about 3M Classic earplugs. They have a signature yellowish cylindrical shape and specialed texture surface.

According to the Aearo website, these earplugs remain the most popular sleeping earplug in the world today because of their outstanding advantage that include:

  • NNR 29db protection
  • Easy to use cylindrical shape
  • Soft, low pressure foam for all day comfort
  • Non-Allergenic
  • Moisture resistant
  • Non-Flamable
  • Yellow color for high visibility

Also, according to Aearo, the small yellow plug went thru a number of test making them the proven choice for ear protection:

  • The Size: They have been tested to be the right size to fit the widest range of ear canals (Mil P37407)
  • The Shape: The cylindrical-shape has shown to protect better than tapered plugs (British Steel Technical, 1994)
  • The Foam: Aeros is the only manufacturer to make its own PVC foam, so it can regularly be tested for optimum and consistent performance (Human Factors, 1990)

The Review

I’ll go thru all the characteristics advertised by Aearo so that we can see if it is actually what they are supposed to be.

The Material

The material used with the 3M EAR Classic earplugs is definitely different from other plugs I have used in the past.

At first touch, the main body of the plug is kind of rough but the two endfaces are very soft. This roughness is due to the plug special proprietary cell surface texture. The soft endfaces helps make the seal.

The earplug is more stiff to compress than other types of foam earplugs and it has a slower recovery time which makes them actually easier to insert inside the ear because the plug takes more time to regain its original size.

One of the downside to this PVC formulation is that since the recovery time is longer than other plugs, you have to keep your finger on the plug while it regain its size in the ear. If you don't keep a finger on it, it has a tendency to get out of the ear, not providing with an optimal noise reduction fitting. This effect is probably due to it’s cylindrical shape. Sometimes, It even needs to have it taken out, re-rolled, and re-inserted in the ear canal again.

The special PVC and cell surface texture do actually help keep the pressure inside the ear very low when inserted. This is due to the fact that the cell surface let air thru the earplug as is expand in the ear, creating a pressure balance, compared with push-in type of reusable and disposable earplugs that prevent air inside the ear from coming out, though, creating an air pressure inside the ear when inserted.

I could not test the plug for the humidity factor because I don't use them in sweaty conditions. Although I have noticed that the plug tend to be easier to remove from my ear when I pull on it. I guess that because of the special cell surface, the plug does not tend to become humid and stick to the inner canal like other disposable foam plugs.

The Shape

Aearo state on their brochure that the cylindrical shape as been tested to be the best shape for protection.

Although it does actually make a prefect fit when properly inserted, and that there are studies backing their claim, I don't particularly believe that tapered earplugs provide less fit and protection than the cylinder type.

On the contrary, I find the cylinder type more difficult to insert in the ear that the tapered ones for one reason: when it is rolled, the flat end face of the earplug tend to get deformed and turn into a ball that is sometime hard to insert in the ear canal, compared with a Taper type where the tip stays tapered even when compressed.

So, it makes them difficult to insert correctly on the first roll, compared to the tapered plugs which provide a perfect entry on the first try due to it’s form.

But when it is inserted properly, it does fit nicely in the ear canal and provide an excellent noise seal. If you want to use this type of plugs and have trouble putting them in or figuring out if they are properly positioned in the ear, the Classic Superfit model provide you with a visual indicator on the plug to confirm a proper fit.

Ear Classic Cylindrical Shape Earplug

The Cylindrical shape of the earplug

The flat end face of the earplug tend to get deformed when rolled.

The Usability

Although I don’t use earplugs in a high noise environment, they have been very helpful for me against my partner snoring and my noisy neighbors high volume music.

They are very comfortable to wear all day long. I do use them at night because, compared with the regular tapered earplug type, they don’t create moisture in the ear which makes them very comfortable to wear all night.

All manufacturers of earplugs advise that these should be used only once. I tend to agree if you are wearing them for high noise protection. But if you use them like me, then they can be reused a few times before throwing them out.

I have found that they can be used from 1 to 2 days before they lose their property of slow recovery. Which makes them harder to insert after a while because they recover too fast to insert them properly in the ear canal.

The Pros:

  • Cylinder Shape provides a perfect fit when properly inserted
  • Slow recovery give more time to insert properly the earplug
  • Cell textured surface makes the plug very soft and comfortable in the ear canal
  • Cell surface protect against pressure and humidity inside the ear

The Cons:

  • When compressed, end face tend to get into a ball and make inserting more difficult
  • Need to hold while it recover in the canal because it tends to get out when recovering
  • If not inserted properly in the ear, the cell textured body makes them easy to lose at night when sleeping with them
  • Disposable. Not environmentally friendly. Although manufacturer state it can be recycled, there are no recycling code printed on them

The Conclusion

The Ear Classic earplugs are easy to insert, provide a perfect seal when properly inserted, are very soft and comfortable when worn a long time.

At first, these were not my prefered choice when I needed disposable plugs. I was going more with Hearos Ultimate softness and Howard Leight Max.

But I found by using them a few times for this review that I had been underestimating these earplugs. I actually find them way more comfortable than other sleeping earplugs when I need to wear them for a long time. They are now my prefered all-day earplugs.

Ohropax wax earplugs

ohropax-classic-wax-earplugs---6-pairs_1

OHROPAX Classic has been a well-established noise protection product since 1907. According to the manufacturer’s website, its unique composition of cotton wool soaked in a mixture of petroleum jelly and a variety of paraffin waxes was so well conceived from the outset that it has barely changed right up to the present day.

According to Ohropax website, the best advantages of using the Ohropax earplugs are:

  • They are extremely comfortable to wear.
  • Ideally used for sleep, relaxation, a sense of well-being and meditation.
  • They are also recommended for use during work requiring concentration, DIY activities and loud music.
  • They are particularly suitable for use in so-called ‘non-classic noise areas’ such as large offices and computer centres (noise level: <75 dB(A)).
  • Once they have been inserted into the ear, they are immediately ready for use, in contrast to foam earplugs, you do not have to wait for these plugs to expand.
  • They do not cause sweating and pressure inside the ears.
  • They are considered to be extremely tolerable. They contains no ingredients that are known to cause allergies.

Although Ohropax earplugs have a lot of advantages, there are a few downside and things to consider about using them:

  • Because OHROPAX Classic cannot be cleaned, they recommend that you only use these earplugs once.
  • This product may be affected by certain chemical substances.
  • Sudden or fast removal of the earplug out of the external ear canal may damage the ear drum.
  • Due to the materials used, OHROPAX Classic is not suitable for use in warm workplaces or those containing large amounts of dirt and/or dust.

OHROPAX Classic exhibits high sound insulation values over the entire frequency range. The level of protection goes from 22.3db to 37.7db according to the frequencies that the user is exposed to. A chart displaying the entire chart is available on Ohropax official website.

The Review

I’ll go thru all the characteristics advertised by Ohropax so that we can see if it is actually what they are supposed to be.

The Material

When you open the cardboard box, the first thing that you encounter is a couple of soft little balls of pink cotton wool. The actual earplugs are hidden inside those little balls. The cotton is used to protect the plugs in the box and to prevent them from sticking to each other.

Once you have removed the cotton from the plugs, wich is very easy by-the-way, you will be left with a hard pink cylinder made of a sticky material.

It’s the petroleum jelly and paraffin waxes that gives it this sticky feeling. Don't worry if you can’t remove the cotton wool completely. As long as you remove most of it, the rest will meld with the plugs material.

Ohropax Classic in cardboard box

Ohropax Classic ear plugs in their cardboard box.

Ohropax Classic without cotton protection

Ohropax Classic with its cotton protection removed.

The Shape

The shape of the Ohropax wax earplugs is very simple. When you remove the cotton wool from the earplug, you will find a cylinder shaped piece that is in fact pretty hard before it is kneaded. Unlike other earplugs of different shapes, there isn’t much more to be said about the shape of these plugs.

The Usability

The Ohropax wax earplugs are pretty easy to carry almost anywhere. Depending of the quantity that you buy, they come either in a small cardboard box or in a metal container.

The cotton wool that serve as a protection is very easy to remove from the plugs. I put it back in the box after removing it so that I can use it to put the plugs back in the box after using them.

Although Ohropax says that it is better to use them only once, I have used them a few times before throwing them out. Of course, this always depend on your usage of the plugs. When they get dirty and do not stick anymore, just get rid of them.

The wax cylinder, as hard as it can be at first, is actually pretty easy to knead once you start heating it a little bit with your finger. It becomes very soft after a few seconds to a minute of kneading.

As I have stated before above, these earplugs are actually pretty easy to knead and to form into a ball shape. I had some difficulties at first to make them stay into my ears, which prevent them from completely sealing my ear canal.

When I pushed them in the ear, they were also sticking to my finger, which made the plug a little bit difficult to make it stay inside the ear. When they are kneaded, they tend to become very soft. Because of this, it takes a few minutes before they become a little bit harder again when inserted in the ear, which gives the impression that the ear canal is not completely sealed from noise.

One of the big downside of using this kind of material is that, after kneading the earplug, your fingers become very sticky with the wax material.

I would have actually thought that after scrubbing my fingers together it would actually come off… but no. Your fingers will remain very greasy. And it won't go away as long as you don’t wash them with soap and water, which is not very interesting for me because I have them in a bedside drawer to put them at night when my partner is snoring.

So, I’m not really interested in getting up and washing my hands after putting on the plugs. It would be hard to fall back asleep after getting up. It can also be a problem in other situations where you have to put on the plugs but cannot wash your hands afterwards.

Ohropax Earplugs inserted in the ear.

The Pros:

  • They are actually very comfortable to wear.
  • They do not cause any pressure inside the ear.
  • They can be used for noise and also to block water.
  • They are easy to knead, to put on and to remove.
  • Although not recommended, they can be reused a few times.
  • They comes in the color of your skin and thus they are almost invisible.

The Cons:

  • They leave a sticky film on the fingers after being kneaded.
  • Can be difficult to keep them sealing the ear canal before they cool down and get harder.
  • Keep sticking to the fingers when putting them in the ear, which make ear canal sealing a problem.
  • When sleeping with them they tend to leave grease on the pillow or fall during the night.

The Conclusion:

Ohropax wax earplugs can be a perfect choice for some people who dislikes disposable earplugs, or if they have skin reactions to non-natural products.

One of my favourite advantage is that they are made from natural material, which makes them biodegradable. So these plugs are actually very environmentally friendly. The other advantage is that they are made from non allergic material. So, this gives the chance to everyone, even if you have skin problems, to use earplugs.

If you experience pain when you use foam earplugs, you might want to try these earplugs.

Ohropax wax Earplugs are painless to insert and do not fall of at night. Unlike the foam earplugs, you do not have to hold and wait for them to expand like. They take the shape of your ears the moment you insert them.

They have a rating of 27NRR which is a bit lower but still quite effective in reducing the snoring noise. They might not totally block it out but still allow you to sleep comfortably next to your partner.

These babies are made of wax covered in cotton. They are comfortable easy to insert and ideal for all ear sizes and shapes.

What We Loved

  • Seal the ear canals better than foam earplugs
  • Comfortable and easy to use
  • Do a good job in blocking out the noise
  • Ideal for all ear sizes, shapes and sleeping positions

What We Didn't Like

  • They have a rating of 27 NRR. They might not block out all the snoring noise
  • Can be a bit messy and sticky

They are made of soft foam. They are soft and comfy to sleep on. Super Sleep Comfort ear plugs are equally easy to insert and remove.

Like other ear plugs made of foam, they expand to the size of your ear canal. You don’t have to worry that you will have to wake up at night to put them back. They fit in properly without falling off or leaving space.

What We Loved

  • Extremely comfortable to sleep in
  • Effortless to insert and offer little resistance when removing
  • Comfortable to sleep in all positions
  • Blocks out most of the noise
  • They come in a special carrying case
  • Affordable and also reusable

What We Didn't Like

  • Might not be ideal for those with long ear canals

Earplugs tech talk

There are two kinds of best earplugs for sleeping that exist today on the market. There are the active and the passive ones.

Passive devices  are classified as earplugs, auditory canal caps, earmuffs, and helmets. The classification is done according to the way they seal the ear.

Active earplugs

Sleeping earplugs that are  inserted into the auditory canal are usually “one-size-fits-all” earplugs and demand to be squeezed before or upon insertion. They are are constructed with materials such as as slow-recovery polyurethane or polyvinyl foams,  whirled fibreglass, paraffin and beeswax-based products. After manufacture, these earplugs are then putty inserted inside a soft plastic case.

A user have to compress the foam earplugs and insert them into the ear canal before they regain their original shape and fit the size of the ear canal . Because their original size is bigger than that of the ear canal itself, the fact that the earplug get back its original size creates an acoustic seal.

Examples of foam earplugs are the SparkPlug by Moldex and the E-A-R Classic PVC foam. These are slow-recovery devices that are compressed before inserted in the ear canal.

Examples of the best earplugs for sleeping that do not need to be compressed before insertion are the Ultrafit by AEARO-3M and HOWARD LEIGHT Fusion. With these earplugs, you only require to push them into your ear canal without compressing them first.

Note: Paraffin and beeswax earplugs require to be pre-molded first by the user and then inserted in the ear in a way to deform them to fit the ear canal.

Custom molded sleeping earplugs

One of the advantages of custom-molded sleeping earplugs is that they are found as either passive or active devices.

The custom-molded earplug is produced according to the specific dimensions of your ear canal. This allows it to be used as a passive device. It provides a relatively good attenuation since the impression is made with a dam deeply inserted into the ear.

Many companies now create earplugs with a small hole in it that can be fitted with various sound filters which give the earplug different levels of attenuation. The hole can also be fitted with electronics that can provide better protection such as noise cancellation, electronic filtering, etc.

Silicone vs Wax vs Foam: Which are the most effective earplugs for sleeping?

Wax Earplugs

Best earplugs for sleeping with a snorerThe first wax ear plugs is believed to have been created in ancient times. Since then, little has actually changed. Wax is still used, along with other materials such as cotton, to produce high quality earplugs.

The Body Heat… Part of the solution.

The best thing about using wax in the making of earplugs is that once inside the ear, the wax is heated up by the body’s heat. This rise in temperature of the wax, caused by the temperature of the body of the wearer, makes the wax into a protective seal with the inside of the ear canal.

The created seal prevents noise, water, or anything else from getting in the ear.

More than just for snoring noise!

Wax earplugs are also used quite a lot by flyer’s. The seal formed by the wax in the ear gives the air pressure in the inner ear  some time to equalize with the outside air pressure. The discomfort in your ears that is felt during takeoff is actually the results from the inner ear not keeping with the rapidly changing air pressure in the cabin. With a wax seal correctly in place, air is prevented from moving too fast inside your ear and causing that unpleasant discomfort.

Natural ingredients and a soft formulation

The unique formulation of wax earplugs: cotton wool soaked in a mixture of Vaseline and paraffin wax,  is so perfectly right from the outset that it has remained practically unchanged up until the present day.

The ingredients in wax earplugs are all gentle to the skin and hypoallergenic. The wax earplugs can also be perfectly adjusted to fit every auditory canal and reduce the effects of noise on the ear.

The comfort of the earplug is excellent as no sensation of pressure occurs in the ear. The used material in the making adheres well to the ear and enables a secure positioning. The flesh-colored earplugs also looks very discreet when worn!

Wax earplugs are very simple to use!

1. First, completely remove the protective cotton wool with clean fingers. If needed, you can reduce the size of the ear plug by tearing-off a small amount of its material.
2. Discard the protective cotton! Mould plug to soften and shape into a coherent ball. Place the ball over the auditory canal and flatten firmly. Do not insert deeply or use too small a piece.
3. To remove the ear plug, press upward behind the ear to loosen. Then remove plug with fingers. Never use hard or pointed objects to aid removal.

Silicone Earplugs

Best earplugs for sleeping with a snorerSilicone sleeping earplugs are flat soft disks, with a rubber-like feeling. They are used in a lot of various ways including for blocking snoring noise from your roommate.

Silicone earplugs are a little bit more expensive than other regular disposable earplugs, but because some people believe that they offer more bang for the buck, it makes the extra spending acceptable.

The attributes of silicone earplugs for sleeping

The first reason to use silicone earplugs for sleeping is because of their memory factor. This trait helps it to fill the inside of the external ear canal, making a complete and comfortable  fit. Being soft and easy to mold makes it  also very easy to insert and remove without danger for the ear. Silicon is also an inert and nontoxic component.

Silicone earplugs are said to be reusable a couple of times until they are either dirty or that they don’t stick to the ear anymore. It has been said on the web that since they are resistant to heat, they can be put in a dishwasher or boiled in a sterile solution for cleaning.

Silicone earplugs comes in a variety of shapes an colors. Most of them are semi-transparent and comes flat in small plastic box.

Silicone and noise blocking

Silicone earplugs blocks out noises very effectively.

They can and are used by people who works in high noise environments primarily to limit the ear to exposition to loud noise to prevent hearing loss.

Being soft and not going inside the ear canal, they are very comfortable for people who wish to use them at night for snoring release and street noises.

More than just for sleeping!

A second use for silicone earplugs is their ability to  prevent water from going inside the ear by completely sealing the ear.  They are used by swimmers, divers, and people doing aquatic sports.

Silicone ear plugs must be inserted and removed with care to prevent damage to the ear. It is especially true for silicone earplugs as if they get inside the ear canal, you might need the help of an ear professional to remove it as it cannot be dissolved like wax earplugs.

Silicone earplugs are easy to use!

1. First, roll and mould the earplug between fingers to soften and shape into a coherent ball.
2. Place the ball over the auditory canal, flatten firmly and hold it there for a moment for the silicone to molds to the area. DO NOT FORCE THE PLUG INSIDE THE EAR AND DO NOT INSERT DEEPLY!
3. To remove the ear plug, press upward behind the ear to loosen. Then remove plug with fingers. Never use hard or pointed objects to aid removal. Removing the plug too hard or too fast can provoke damage to hearing.

Foam earplugs

Best earplugs for sleeping with a snorerDifferent types of foam earplugs are available on the market today. The most common is the foam earplugs that is made of memory foam, which is rolled between fingers to a smaller size so that it can be inserted into the ear canal where it regain it’s original size though creating a perfect seal.

The foam makes the fit

Memory foam is made of polyurethane mixed with other chemicals to increase its viscosity and density. Most earplugs memory foam become soft when heated by the body heat, making it possible to perfectly mold to a warm ear canal in a few minutes.  It provides the best combination of comfort and protection for most users.

Advantages of the pods

The second type is the push in type, or, as they are called sometimes, the Pod Earplugs.

These earplugs are the easiest to install since there is no roll needed. You just have to use the soft flexible grip to push the earplug into position to obtain a perfect seal.

The unique design of these sleeping earplugs allows the foam to compress easily so that the plug slides gently into the ear and expands slowly. Since you don’t have to touch and roll the plug between you fingers, it makes them the most hygienic plugs on the market.

Where did those plugs go…

For people working with earplugs in environments where it is important that the plugs doesn’t fall into the produced goods (especially with food products) or that needs to put on and remove the plugs often, most all of the foam earplugs comes in a corded version. The cord is long enough to go all around the back of the neck.

For people working specially in the food industries, there are metal detectable earplugs that are made with a small metal ball inside so they are detectable in an industrial metal detection unit for easy compliance with food industry regulations.

Metal detectable earplugs generally feature blue ear plugs and/or blue cords: blue is the only color classified as a non-food color in the food industry.

Roll’em, push’em, but wear them!

1. With clean hands, roll(don’t squeeze) the earplug between your thumb and first 2 fingers until the diameter of the plug is as small as possible.
2. Reach over your head with the opposite hand and pull the top of your ear to open the ear canal.
3. While you are holding the ear open, quickly push the rolled end of the plug into your ear, leaving enough of the ear plug outside the ear to allow removal.
4. The disposable earplug should now be properly positioned in the ear canal. For best fit, at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the ear plug should be inside your ear canal.

Removing ear plugs

For greater comfort, twist the plug gently to break the seal before removing the plug.

Pre-molded earplugs

Best earplugs for sleeping snoringOne of the greener and economical earplugs for sleep are the Pre-molded earplugs.

These earplugs are  are usually made of silicone rubber, vinyl and other hypoallergenic synthetic rubbers.

Some of them are even made of a special type of foam with a special film cover protecting the inside foam. They come in different size, shapes, colors and some are corded and others not.

Some come with a handy carrying case that lowers the chances of losing them and helps to keep them clean.

There are many type of pre-molded earplugs available on the market.

One of the major differences between pre-molded earplugs and regular foam earplugs is because for the pre-molded earplugs, size does matter. Since you don’t actually roll them between your finger to insert them in your ear but simply push them inside, you have to actually find the perfect size for you.

Many pre-molded sleep earplugs come in trial packs of 2 to 3 different sizes so that you can find the perfect fit and perfect seal for your ear canal. Some people even need one size in one ear and a different size in the other, which makes the trial packs very handy.

Although the size, seal and comfort is one of the factors to consider when choosing the best earplugs for snoring, you have to keep in mind that one of the most important element of the earplug is the NNR rating. It is that rating that defines the quantity of noise the earplug will stop from going into your ear.

Most of them comes with different numbers of flanges, but there are some that do not have any.

Pre-molded earplugs can be re-used over and over again as long as they are properly cared for.

They should be cleaned in soap water after every uses. They can also be cleaned using rubbing alcohol.

Of course, when they begin to show signs of wear and tear and are beginning to lose their original form, then it is the time to throw them out and get a new pair.

Now that we have reviewed the best earplugs for sleeping, let’s get into the mundane details about earplugs in general. This is information that you absolutely don’t need, but it doesn’t hurt to know.

A little bit of history about the best earplugs for sleeping

Do you know when the best earplugs for snoring were first mentioned in history?

Well, the first recorded use of wax earplugs is in the Odyssey! Odysseus’s crew used wax earplugs to avoid being distracted by the Sirens’ songs!

It was an inventor named Max Negwer, in 1907,  that started the German company named Ohropax which still produce the famous original wax earplugs they used to produce. Since then, they have added a few other products to their catalog.

About 45 years ago, in 1967, the company National Research founded by a scientist named Ross Gardner Jr. created the first earplug out of an accident. Gardener and his team discovered earplugs as a byproduct of a project called “joint sealants.” Gardener was developing a resin that had unusual properties of energy absorption.

But what about today??

Today, sleeping earplugs are currently manufactured by around 25 different companies and can be bought nearly everywhere on earth. The principal manufacturer, Howard Leight, reports annual sales of around $130 million.

So, where shall we go now?

I sometime wear my best earplugs for sleeping even when there is not so much noise around or even when I am not actually sleeping. They still gives the pleasure of calming the world around you to the point where you can hear your own thoughts. I am actually wearing a pair as I write those words!

How to Stop Mouth Breathing with 7 Easy Everyday Tips

5
how to stop mouth breathing

You’ve probably heard the joke about mouth breathers but if you are one of them, you know there is nothing funny about it. In fact, it could be a matter of life and death.

Mouth breathers are those who breathe through their mouths instead of their noses. Breathing through the mouth has negative health implications. There are those who breathe with their mouths only when they are asleep and those who do even when they are awake

How do you know if you breathe through your mouth at night?

You can easily check this by checking for dryness in the mouth immediately you wake up. If your mouth is dry, then you breathe through it in your sleep.

What causes mouth breathing?

Mouth breathing can be is as a result of either one of these:

  1. Nasal obstruction: There is resistance to the smooth flow of air
  2. It can also be habitual where you formed a habit of breathing through the mouth since you were a child
  3. In the third trimester of pregnancy, mouth breathing is common. However if you are not a mouth breather this will stop.

Why is it important that you breathe through your nose?

The normal anatomical function is to breathe through your nose. And there are good reasons why you should maintain this natural provision.

  1. Breathing through the mouth reduces the oxygen absorption capacity of the lungs. As you breathe through the nose, nitric oxide gas is produced by mucus in small levels. This gas increases the lung’s oxygen absorption capacity. Prolonged oxygen inadequacy has detrimental long term effects to your overall health.
  2. Air breathed through the nose is cleansed of harmful microbes and other impurities. As the air travels through the hose, they are filtered in the mucus lining of nose. This mucus lining also moisturizes and warms the air.
  3. Breathing through the mouth is detrimental to your oral health. It dries out gums and promotes acidity increasing the risk of cavities and plague. It also increases the risk of gum disease.
  4. Research has proven that mouth breathing at night worsens snoring.
  5. As absurd as this may sound, breathing through the mouth can lead to facial deformation. This mostly happens in children.

How to stop mouth breathing

Have you been wondering how to sleep with your mouth closed? Here are some options you can try

#1 Train yourself how to breathe with your mouth closed

sleeping-dry-mouth
Learn how to breathe through your nose at all times

The brain is a powerful tool. Utilize its full potential to help to deal with this problem. During the day, if you subconsciously find yourself breathing through the mouth, try and break this habit. You can even stick notes and set a reminder in your phone.

Try as much as you can to breathe through your nose and maintain a consistent breathing pattern if you can. Try to keep your mouth closed at all times and maintain a good posture.

Most mouth breathers tend to have a head-forward kind of position. Try to stay with your head pressed back a little and breathe though your nose.

Over time, you will condition your brain to breath in that particular pattern and maintain a straight position. This may not happen overnight. It may take some time before you see any significant change.

#2 Practice nose clearing exercise

Buteyko for mouth breathers
Buteyko for mouth breathers

The reason you have trouble breathing through nose at night is possibly because you have nose congestion. Whenever you feel like your nose is too blocked to take a proper breath, do this simple nose clearing exercise.

The exercise is also called the “Buteyko.”

It is named after its Russian inventor and recommended by an Australian breathing therapist known as Dr. Rosalba Courtney.

This method is used to correct many breathing problems.

It helps you reestablish your breathing volume to normal. It might be your most effective and free mouth breathing treatment.

How is it done?

With your mouth closed preferably in a sitting position, breathe normally through your nose for 2 to 3 minutes. Then breath in and press closed you nose with your fingers.

Hold your breath for as long as you can. When you feel that you can’t hold it any longer, slowly let out the air through your nostrils. Remember to keep your mouth closed during this exercise. Repeat this several times.

You can take it a notch higher and do it as you pace or as you do other things.

#3 Elevating your head while you sleep

Try sleeping with your head elevated
Try sleeping with your head elevated

If you are a mouth breather and you do not elevate your head when you sleep, doing just that might be the solution you are looking for.

A poor sleeping position can worsen your snoring especially if it forces your mouth to open. Always sleep with your head elevated above the rest of your body. Using a pillow or an adjustable mattress might be a good place to start. Your pillow should ensure that your back is tilted a little to the back.

Why is elevating your head important

  1. If you suffer from acid influx, an elevated head helps deal with that problem. It prevents acids and other intestinal fluids from going up your throat.
  2. It creates a clear passage for air allowing for maximum nasal breathing and unrestricted flow of air.
  3. It reduces stress on the heart.

#4 Adopt a proper sleeping position

How to stop mouth breathing while sleepingSome sleeping positions lead to or worsen mouth breathing. Sleeping on the back is particularly not good for mouth breathers.

When you sleep on your back, you are forced to take heavier breaths. It becomes impossible to channel out the air through the nose. This forces you to breathe through the mouth.

The base of your tongue and soft plates are forced to collapse at the back of your mouth. This makes them produce vibrating sounds when you breathe. Try to either sleep on your side or stomach. Sleeping on your side is also good for your back.

#5 Exercise

Exercising is one of the ways of stopping mouth breathing. Believe it or not, exercises like yoga and cardio exercises improve your breathing. They involve breathing work and will help you improve breathing through the nostrils.

Research has also found overweight people to have problem mouth breathing. Exercising to lose the extra weight might help you stop breathing your mouth as you sleep. Exercising is also important for your general well being.

#6 Remove all known allergens

If you are allergic to anything, remove it from your bedroom. If you sleep with your pet, you might want to stop it.

It is also advisable to remove any plants that might be in your sleeping area. During the night plants use up oxygen and emit carbon dioxide. It leads to completion for oxygen between you and the plant.

Remove carpets and rugs from the bedroom. They worsen the quality of air in your room by harbor dust and bacterial. You should also change your bed sheets regularly and wash them in clean warm water often.

Consider the blankets that you use. If they are too warm, they make breathing through the nose uncomfortable. Old and dusty pillows do not make nasal breathing any easier. Lose them all.

#7 Mouth taping

This sounds ridiculous right? However mouth taping has proven to be one of the most effective techniques on how to sleep with your mouth closed.

How does it work?

As the name suggests this method involves taping your mouth to keep it closed during sleep.

All you need is surgical tape and some cream. The cream makes removing the tape painless. First apply the cream then put a small tape at the center. You can either vertically (across) or horizontally (along). The tape keeps the lips closed at all times forcing you to breathe through your nose. It is as easy as that.

However, this method might be a bit uncomfortable at first. It’s just a small price to pay compared to its benefit.

#8 Using nasal saline spray

Nasal saline sprays are very helpful in adding moisture to your nose. When you feel like your nose is too congested to take adequate breaths, it’s easy to find yourself breathing through the mouth.

Saline nasal sprays are very effective at decongesting your nose making nasal breathing easier.

#9 Using mouth guards

If you have been wondering how to keep your mouth closed while sleeping, using mouth guards is one of the best options to explore.

Sleeping mouthguards are designed to keep your mouth shut as you sleep when installed.

There are numerous brands of mouth guards in the market today. When you purchase one, make sure it is comfortable enough for you to want to wear it. You should also consider the material it is made from to avoid harming your gum.

You might also want to try using chin strips. These are horse shoe shaped and support the chin while you sleep. They help stop mouth breathing and promote nasal breathing. By doing this they also offer relief for snoring caused by mouth breathing. They are effective when used alone or in combination with other methods.

Now to you

There you have it, if you have been wondering how to stop mouth breathing, try one or two of these options might be the solution you are looking for. Feel free to drop us a comment on what you think or what works best for you.

What sort of pet strollers are available?

There are many different types of dog strollers available to you, including large or small, depending on the size of your dog, 3 wheels or 4 wheels, and a large variety of colours and styles. Some are available with detachable carriers suitable for car travel and there are even multiple strollers available for pet owners who have more than one pet.

The majority of these strollers are lightweight and easy to maneuver, and fold flat within seconds. Some contain storage baskets and cup holders to hold toys, treats, and water bottles and have mesh windows to keep any bugs out.

Front and rear entry makes it easier to get your pet in and out of the stroller and padded fleece interior makes it comfortable for them. Rain covers are available for your dog stroller as well as shades so that your pet is protected in all weather conditions.

Strollers for small dogs

Small dogs tend to tire out much quicker than larger dogs. Taking your small dog out in a stroller means you can walk as far as you like without the risk of your little fluffy companion getting exhausted.

Do you have large and small dogs? Or are your dogs different breeds? Dogs that come from the working group and gundog group need far more exercise than dogs that belong to the toy group. This is a great reason to purchase a stroller. Some larger dogs need more exercise than smaller dogs however, in some cases your larger dogs will have to miss out on getting the right amount of exercise as your smaller dogs may become tired and need to rest. If you have a stroller, it will mean that both dogs can go out for a walk suitable for their size and breed, and as soon as your smaller dog gets tired, they can ride the rest of the way in their stroller, meaning your larger dog will not miss out.

Strollers for large dogs

These doggy strollers are not only available for small dogs, they can also accommodate for larger and heavier dogs. There are strollers available to carry pets that weight up to 150 pounds.

Larger dogs often suffer from arthritis in their back legs which makes it very difficult for them to walk any distance. Having a stroller means they can still go out on trips to their favorite park without being in pain and having to stop regularly for breaks.

Why should I buy a stroller for my dog?

There are many reasons why people buy strollers to carry their dogs in. Some small dogs are not able to walk long distances and may get tired much quicker than larger dogs. These strollers mean that you can take your dog with you, even on long distance walks without having to worry about them tiring out quickly and becoming exhausted.

Older dogs also tire more quickly than younger dogs, therefore a stroller is a great way of still being able to take them out and about, rather than them being left at home. When they get tired, they can simply hop in to the stroller and spend the rest of the time being chauffeured around.

Puppy owners would benefit from a dog stroller too as you should be very careful about taking puppies outside before they have had all their vaccinations. In a stroller they are safe from picking things up from the ground and other dogs out and about. As with old dogs, puppies get tired easy too and may need to take a quick nap every now and again, a few hours for you can be a long day for a little puppy.

If your dog is recovering from surgery or an injury, dog strollers will allow them to still go out and get fresh air without the risk of them harming themselves more. Healing wounds can easily be infected by bacteria found outside the home, so having somewhere for your dog to retreat to is definitely not a bad idea.

Best Nursing Bras 2017

If you are planning on breastfeeding your baby, then congratulations. You are doing something that is going to be of great benefit to both you and the child, thus cementing the mother-child relationship.

If this is your first child, or the first time that you are considering prolonged breastfeeding, then you’ll need to consider a few things when purchasing the most important nursing underwear garment: the nursing bras.

Finding a bra under normal circumstances for most women is a challenge. It is reported that many women actually wear the wrong size bras resulting in strap slippages, saggy breasts, fat rolls of the back, etc. While this is somewhat unsightly, it is of no consequence.

However, finding a good nursing bra is a must. The right nursing bra will come handy in preventing things like blocked milk ducts, which could cause mastitis.

When buying a nursing bra, you have to examine the ease with which the cup will be able to slip off the breast.

Types of nursing bras

Familiar to most women is the type of bra that unfastens in the front. However, with a nursing bra, this type of front fastening bra offers much more support in the breast and has thicker straps and band.

cheap nursing brasAnother type of bra designed for nursing is the zipper bra. A zipper is sewn right underneath the cups for easy release. Just unzip and fold the cup over the breast at feeding time.

The third type of nursing bra that mothers wear is the button bra. A button fastens the cup to the strap which can be unbuttoned when the baby is hungry.

Finally, you can also consider a stretchy nursing bra. Be reminded, however, that this is a nursing bra and not a regular bra in which you pull the cup over your breast. This type of bra is made of material designed to stretch and will not lose their shape from numerous feedings.

Which are the best nursing bras in the market?

Anita underwire nursing bras provide great support for those women with heavy breasts that really need that extra support.

Some of the more popular models are the Anita Maternity Women’s Underwire Nursing Bra #5035 and the Anita Maternity Women’s Underwire Nursing Bra #5041.

Not much separates the two models but the Anita Nursing Bra #5041 does have pretty lace cups and a memo feeding memorizer to remind you which was the last side that was nursed on. This is very helpful so you don’t make mistakes and break your routine and deplete your supply.

Features of the Anita Nursing Bras

  1. The Anita nursing underwire bras are made of 80% Microfiber Nylon, 20% Elastane and have the patented Kwik Klip for easy opening and closing.  This makes things extremely easy for one handed opening and closing.  You don’t have to fumble or move the bra out of the way when the baby is trying to latch on.  So, the nursing functionality also works as well as providing support and shape.
  2. The bands and straps of the Anita nursing bras are wide and don’t dig into the flesh.  Large breasted mothers can actually wear it to the gym or while exercising with the kids running with the jogging stroller.  You can also wear these nursing bras with tank tops, V necks and scoop neck shirts.
  3. The band size of Anita nursing bras tend to run larger than most manufacturers so you’ll probably want to going a size smaller.  For example, if you’re normally a 36, you’ll want to order a 34.
  4. For a nursing bra, both the #5035 and the #5041 styles are quite pretty and feminine which is a boost of the morale of breastfeeding mothers.  They do not give off the utilitarian look of other nursing bras.
  5. The Anita nursing bras also  give your breasts a nice shape and an incredible lift and you fit your clothes better as well.
  6. Even though it is an underwire bra, you don’t feel it at all.  in fact, most women report they don’t even remember having it on and this even when the milk is coming in.
Our Verdict

Nursing bra or not, these really are very comfortable bras period.

The quality of the Anita underwire nursing bras is top notch and so are the materials being used.  The shape and support keep well even after multiple washings.

The Anita underwire nursing bras are generally designed for women who have larger busts who need the extra support.  However, because of their comfort, it’s a good bra period for any nursing mothers who want something extra pretty and well made.

2. Bravado nursing bras

There are a lot of nursing bras in the market and you might be wondering what is so special about the Bravado nursing bra that we had to feature it here.

Well, for one thing, the comfort!  There’s no underwire or polyester as it is 100% cotton.  It also has easy and convenient snaps and the cups pull down quickly for emergency feedings.

For most women, these two factors are the high on the list of priorities when getting a nursing bra: comfort and ease.  There is no question about it, the Bravado nursing bra fits these criteria.

What’s also great about the Bravado nursing bra is that multiple sizes like small, medium, large, large plus, large plus plus plus, extra large, etc.  Each of these sizes represent a range in cup sizes.  Therefore, you’re not limited to standard cup sizes like in conventional pre-pregnancy bras.  This is great because you won’t know what size you’re going to be until your milk comes in, which is going to be a few days after your baby is born.

You should only get fitted or measured for a nursing bra in your last trimester as that will give you a better indication of how big you’re really going to be.  Even then, your breasts will get bigger (it might surprise some moms on how big!) when the milk comes in.

However, you will need a nursing bra for when you go to the hospital for the first few days so the Bravado bra is great  because they have a lot of give and flexibility.  Don’t worry about the money spent on these as they will probably fit just fine even after the first few weeks of stretching.

Our Verdict

Bravado bras are the kind of nursing bras that you’ll want to wear when you’re around the house resting, at night if you’re staying indoors and you’re not expecting visitors because they are so comfortable.

There are no underwires for extra support but you’re lounging around the house anyways so this is not a huge issue.   A lot of doctors discourage underwire bras as it can hamper milk flow for some mothers and block milk ducts causing mastitis.  This will not be an issue with the Bravado bra.

The Bravado nursing bra comes in a variety of colors and you’ll want to get a few just for convenience issues between washings.

Important points to remember when buying a nursing bra

  • Nursing your baby should not be a hassle. You don’t want to be fighting to get your breast out of the bra. You want to find a nursing bra that is comfortable.
  • You should also think of convenience, practicality and support.
  • The best nursing bra should be made of cotton to absorb any breast leakages.
  • Buy a few nursing bras to rotate between washings.
  • You should buy your nursing bra in the last month of your pregnancy as your breasts will be close to reaching their full size.

Nursing your baby is one of the best starts in life you can give to your baby. Make sure you do it in comfort with the best nursing bra that money can buy!

Better Review: The Shrunks Inflatable Toddler Bed for Travel

0
kids bests for camping

My previous two air mattress beds for kids reviews covered the Dr. Watters Child’s Portable Overnight Bed by Gentle Air and the 40010 AeroBed for Kids.

Both are superb products by reputable companies with a good history in the air mattress beds industry. But, since variety is the spice of life, I’m going to cover at least one more mattress in the air mattress for kids category before moving on.

Along with the two air mattresses already reviewed, I’d like to introduce the Tuckaire Toddler air mattress for kids by The Shrunks. On the surface, this mattress is comparable to the previous two offerings but it does have some features that distinguish it (both for better and for worse depending on your perspective). We’ll get any potential negatives out of the way first.

What you might not like

One of the first things I want to clear up is a bit of confusing information. The Amazon advertisements for this product (and a few other sources I’ve found) list the product dimensions as 19 x 9 x 6 inches.

A little common sense will tell you those are hardly adequate dimensions for a human of any age. Don’t worry… the Tuckaire Toddler air bed isn’t for your daughter’s Barbie. Those are just the dimensions of the air mattress in shipping. The actual dimensions when inflated are 60″ x 36″ x 5″ inches.

How Does the Tuckaire Toddler Bed Compare to the AeroBed for Kids or Dr Watters Child’s Overnight Bed?

Compared to the Aero Bed for Kids, the Tuckair Toddler Travel Bed is actually larger by as much as 10″ per side and one inch in depth. While not too big a difference, nearly a foot of additional space per side can, in some circumstances, be too much.

best inflatable air beds for kidsI’m picturing cramped hotel rooms and guest rooms in which walking space is at a premium. Of the three air mattress beds for children I’ve reviewed, the Tuckair Toddler air mattress bed is the largest.

Ease of inflation

If you review other air beds for kids, particularly the two others I’ve already reviewed, you’ll see they proudly proclaim how quickly their beds inflate.

The Tuckaire does the same but, unlike some of its competitors, does not quantify that with a number. For instance, the Aerobed for Kids proclaims under a minute inflation times and 15 seconds to deflate. While this may just be an oversight on the part of the company, I’m inclined to guess that the Tuckaire doesn’t beat its competitors in this regard so they’ve simply left off their stats.

However, keep in mind, we’re only talking about a maximum of 1 minute difference here so it really isn’t that big a deal in the context of all the other features you might want to consider.

Smaller company

Another item some might consider a negative but which I think will mostly be offset by something I’ll get to later is that The Shrunks doesn’t operate a business on the same level of Gentle Air or AeroBed; both of which are relative giants in comparison.

Larger inflatable air bed companies tend to have more established manufacturing processes in place, better R&D and, sometimes, more polished customer care and support operations in place.

I’m not saying The Shrunks falls down in any of these regards, just that their more venerable and larger competitors have had more time to iron out the wrinkles.

Why am I concerned about larger companies?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a small business myself so I always pull for the little guy, but I’ve read a few reviews from owners advising that the Tuckaire Toddler bed needed to be inflated again several times during a few days of use. That’s a sign of a manufacturing defect.

To be sure, very few people lodged this complaint and the included electric pump makes this a quick fix and negligible inconvenience, but it needs to be noted in the interest of full disclosure.

Positive Tuckaire Inflatable Toddler Bed Reviews

Now, having said the last, I’m going to get to the positives.

Though the Tuckaire Toddler air bed may not be manufactured by as large a company as AeroBed, The Shrunks shines in one simple regard; they focus exclusively on air beds for kids and related products. That makes them specialists.

With their mission laser focused, they can take the time to really do inflatable kids beds right and that largely negates some of the downsides to their not being as large as their competitors.

UPDATE

A slightly defensive response from The Shrunks representatives actually provided me some wonderful material to add here that you really should know about. First, don’t EVER suggest they can’t roll with the big dogs. They might get a bit snippy (just a joke if you’re reading, guys). They get snippy for good reason, though.

Why?

I’ll provide some direct quotes from their comment.

Did you know that...

“The development team goes to Asia and Europe once every 2 months or even every month to design and quality control existing and new products…”

I think that shows superb devotion to their product and goes to my point (which The Shrunks customer service folks apparently didn’t read) that being specialized means a level of dedication and devotion beyond what larger companies are generally capable of (or interested in).

It’s why I love new and smaller companies, guys. They really do care about what they’re doing. They haven’t been around long enough to become apathetic or cumbersome.

Did you know that...

“The Shurnks’ is headed by a, 20 years experience, sales managers and products are designed by award winning designers who have worked for major fortune 500 USA companies.”

I won’t say that makes me ‘totally wrong‘ in my statements on experience but it certainly makes them better than one might otherwise think.

There are many elements beyond sales and design that go into working out the bugs of a business but their dedication to producing the best possible product for so young a company is clear.

  1. Did you know that “The Shurnks’ is headed by a, 20 years experience, sales managers and products are designed by award winning designers who have worked for major fortune 500 USA companies“. I won’t say that makes me “totally wrong” in my statements on experience but it certainly makes them better than one might otherwise think. There are many elements beyond sales and design that go into working out the bugs of a business but their dedication to producing the best possible product for so young a company is clear.
  2. Did you know “We are the only ones on the Planet using the safest materials and the best manufacturing facilites…Guaranteed….” While I can’t certify that claim, I suspect it is at least mostly true. As you continue to read this review you’ll note I mention the manufacturing of the Tuckaire Inflatable Toddler Bed promises no lead, no BpA and no phathales. That’s huge, gang, and just one more reason to love this bed.

A final note to the good folks at The Shrunks… just because I start with the negatives doesn’t mean your product isn’t great. Read the whole post, next time. You’ll see that I ended this with “Snorezing definitely recommends this product.”

I meant it then and I mean it now because, unlike any other product I’ve endorsed or condemned, you are the first to actually care enough about your product to try and set the record straight. Good for you!

End of Update

Going back to the size of the bed, while it may be larger (and that may sometimes be an inconvenience) the bed’s generous dimensions also mean your child won’t outgrow his or her inflatable bed as quickly as he/she would if you were to opt for the Gentle Air or the AeroBed for kids. You’ll have to determine for yourself if the added years of use will make up for the extra space required on every trip.

A Great Air Mattress Bed without the Chemical Smell!

Of particular interest to parents is the fact that Tuckaire Toddler inflatable travel bed promises no lead, no BpA and no phathales in their product. I’ll save details on what these things are for a future, more technical post but for now parents should view this as the very positive absence of metals and chemical emissions that are harmful.

Best of all, the Tuckaire promises you won’t have to contend with that unpleasant “new plastic” smell!

Another feature I really love with this kid’s air bed involves sheets. The design of the Tuckaire for Toddlers allows for sheets to be tucked in between the bumpers and the actual mattress portion the child sleeps on. Not only does this help create the illusion for the child of this being a real bed instead of an air mattress, but it also keeps bedding off the floor so it stays clean longer.

And, in case you’re wondering, yes… the Tuckaire Toddler air mattress bed accepts standard size crib sheets.

And speaking of the bumpers, the Tuckaire has the Dr Watters air bed and the AeroBed for Kids beat in this regard.

While all three offer a “well” design with raise edges all around the bed, this air bed for Toddlers takes things a step further with raised bumpers. These further ensure your child won’t roll out of his bed and, in my opinion, add an aesthetic element that makes this the better looking of the three beds; great win in both form and function.

An Inexpensive Air Mattress Bed for Kids – Yay!

Finally, the Tuckaire Toddler bed beats both the Dr Watters and AeroBed for Kids in terms of price. You can pick yours up (along with some related products) for around $59.50 (as of this writing. Price will vary slightly from time to time).

Buy air mattress beds for kids online – it’s almost always cheaper.

Of course, you can shop around or pick up your Tuckaire in a store but you might be challenged to find them. As with most products, I always recommend the internet.

You can buy the Tuckaire Inflatable Toddler bed online and save money over in-store prices. In my experience, that’s almost always the case even after factoring in shipping.

So to wrap up, the Tuckaire Toddler travel inflatable bed is a great option for the traveling family.

  • It offers safe construction and generous dimensions and is a great replacement bed or upgrade for a child who has outgrown his or her Pack-n-Play.
  • This air mattress is sold by a company specifically devoted to delivering products for children.
  • The price for the bed is very reasonable.

On the downside, the kid’s air bed requires a bit more space than some of the other offerings on my site and may not inflate quite as quickly (though you’d still have a bed ready from inflation to sheeting in around 5 minutes).

Finally, sheets and blankets can be tucked to keep them off the floor and the bed accepts standard size crib sheets.

Intex Pillow Rest Queen Airbed Review

0
Intex air mattress review

The Intex Pillow Rest Queen Airbed, is also a lot larger than your standard air mattress, ultimately allowing it offer a more true sleep in your own bed, gone are the days of your feet hanging over the edge of the bed.

The size of this airbed also makes it more convenient when it comes time to find covers and sheets to match the bed, as you will no longer be worrying about if it will fit your best air mattress for everyday use or not with it’s true to regular mattresses queen size fitting.

So you can throw away your old set of covers and sheets you had to buy just to fit your previous airbeds. This is what keeps the Intex Pillow Rest Queen Airbed, far and above a notch over the competition.

Built-in pillows

Another of the nice features found in the Intex Pillow Rest Queen Airbed, not common among others, is the built in pillows made of the same durable material as the rest of the airbed.

Since your built in pillows are made out of the same material as the rest of the bed you will notice that they are just as comfortable.

So no longer are you required to drag along the extra pillows when on a camping trip, or traveling to stay at a family member’s house, now you can save all that extra room for other stuff.

This feature alone enables the Intex Pillow Rest Queen Airbed, to be of unmatched portability when compared with traditional airbeds.

Ease of inflation

Now one of the most common problems among traditional airbeds happens to be the way you have to almost fight the pumps to get them inflated and the amount of time and energy that it drains from a person.

Well that is just not so with the Intex Pillow Rest Queen Airbed. You will find the pre-equipped electric pump to be of the easiest and utmost simplest design.

While you may have to fight the traditional pumps to get them to fully inflate your air bed, that is very far from the truth with the Intex Pillow Rest Queen Airbed, electric pump.

Rather you are going from place to place in a few days, just need to change rooms or are setting up a guest bedroom. You will find the electric pump can do the job in just three to four minutes almost effortlessly, eliminating the hassle involved with setting up your inflatable bed.

Firmness control

One of the best features by far, that was introduced into the Intex Pillow Rest Queen Airbed, is the one touch softness or firmness control. This allowing for the ultimate comfort while traveling or camping, allowing for a full night’s sleep and getting that well rested feeling when you wake up can be all too priceless especially with everybody’s busy schedule where we could always use more alertness and energy.

While you may find these features all very incredible for them all too already incorporated into the design of your airbed.

However, while normally this would entail a higher price tag at the checkout with other airbeds and still not match all of the features that this one’s offers, but, with the Intex Pillow Rest Queen Airbed, you are offered the premium features for a lower price than the competition, edging out the rest in the same price range.

Wenzel Insta Bed Raised Airbed Review

0
wenzel insta-bed raised airbed with built-in pump

Packing up is always a troublesome task especially when it comes to keeping your inflatable bed. With the Wenzel Insta-Bed deflation, and even storing, your air mattress can be a very convenient task. You don’t have to literally push the air out.

With this Wenzel bed you can deflate it by simply turning the dial and within minutes, the air can be totally removed making your bed ready for storage.

Moreover, it pumps air quickly that you won’t even notice an irritating sound coming from the pumps motor. This means that with the Wenzel instant bed’s great features, you can spend more time doing something else and relax.

What else makes this air mattress great?

Apart from inflation and deflation features, there are many other features that prove its excellence. It comes with two chambers (top and bottom) offering great support to every sleeper. It is just like a traditional foam mattress with two layers and box springs.

The Wenzel Insta-Bed offers additional comfort by letting you remove or add air from the air bed’s outer frame or inner portion. Once you correctly adjust the bed you won’t slide in the middle just like what you can typically experience from other air beds.

Another thing that makes this Wenzel bed extra special is its state of the art underside design that grasps the floor keeping it from moving around. If you have tried using an air mattress before, you can surely appreciate its design.

The bed also comes with a soft sleeping surface keeping your bed sheet in place. However, its flocked surface may be comfortable but it does not really offer good insulation this is why you still need to buy a mattress pad for additional warmth and comfort.

The height of the bed is an important thing to consider when it comes to choosing a good air bed. Common problems that you will most likely experience from other air beds is that you will have to be sink in the middle and bend over because it is very near ground level.  The good news is that you won’t have to worry about these things with the Wenzel Insta-Bed.

The bed’s dimensions are (L x W x H) 80 X 60 X 22 inches.

It is definitely a real queen sized bed and large enough to comfortably accommodate 2 adults with a combined maximum weight of four hundred fifty pounds.

In summary, its convenient features include built-in air pump with dual air chambers, anti-slide bottom, plug storage, repair kit, tall mattress, storage bag with straps, and of course a warranty. With its entire top of the line features, you can sleep in a cloud of comfort with the Wenzel Insta-Bed.

Aerobed Guest Choice Airbed Mattress Review

0
aerobed guest choice air mattress

A high quality inflatable bed will always come in handy when you are going out in the woods or camp ground for camping. And that’s what the Aero Guest Choice Airbed offers you.

The inflatable bed fits in most tents easily and is much better than putting your sleeping bag on the hard ground. Even worse is when it starts getting cold or when winter is setting in, how comfortable is the frozen ground really.

With this blow up mattress, you are lifted off the ground and are laying on something that is air soft and enjoyable for sleeping on.

I like the way it is easy and quick to set up air mattress and I am certain that you would like this one too.

Since this is a review I think it is necessary to check into the different specifications and the different features concerning this airbed mattress of the Aerobed Guest Choice airbed.

Here they are.

Aerobed Guest Choice Features and Specifications:

  • Twin and Queen sizes for the Aeroned inflatable bed.
  • Made for travel, guests and sleepovers too

  • 4 1/2 star rating through over 200 personal reviews of this air mattress
  • Shipping weight is only 13 pounds

The Aerobed Guest Choice has an interior coil construction for support and comfort, and it surely works. I am sure you have found as well too many of the air mattresses are too flimsy.

This makes for an awful night sleep and generally sore bodies. You don’t have this here it’s almost like sleeping in your own bed. This is nice to know when having guests use it.

You can get the Aerobed Guest Choice Airbed that’s on sale here at Amazon.com for 13% Off. Click the link here

This best inflatable bed is also a great size (74 by 39 by inches) so will accommodate most of your guests. If you wanted to get a larger one it does come in queen size as well. There is a one year warranty with this air mattress.

It also comes with a handy storage bag, so when not in use it can be put away.  That handy bag can actually hold a lot of weight too, over 700 pounds. The airbed mattress comes with a 13% discount for the Queen sized airbed but unfortunately not that Twin size one.

Does not have a built in pump but does come with one. It can quickly inflate in a little as 60 seconds and deflates in an even quicker rate of about 15 seconds.

Whether you are out camping with the family or friends or you are using for a bed for visitors in your house. This airbed mattress called the Aerobed Guest Choice will come in dire value when you need it most.

Body Clock Missing a Stroke? Top 5 Signs Your Clock’s Going Cuckoo

How to reset your body clock

All ye who work on night shifts pay heed. And all those who have been binging on high-calorie food on weekends, here’s a word of caution: when your body clock is out of whack, expect some serious trouble.

About time

The biological marvel that is the circadian rhythm regulates the body’s temperature and pressure according to the time of day – this means we feel alert after a good rest and feel tired and sleepy towards the end of the day or after a huge meal.

The 24-hour circadian cycle is deeply ingrained in our body and is in charge of switching on and off various biological functions, such as oxygen requirements, waking up, being active, feeling hungry, hormone production and even feeling sleepy.

Alarm bells

Those who consistently defy this rhythm and set their own pace of waking, sleeping, eating at irregular intervals or drinking a lot of alcohol, eventually experience problems with their body’s functions.

Studies show that a faulty body clock stops correctly regulating your hunger and metabolic rate, which increases your chances of obesity and diabetes.

Other studies prove that alcoholics tend to suffer from poor sleep, depression, low immunity and disrupted neuroendocrine functions, because the alcohol interferes with those physiologic functions that depend on the circadian rhythm.

On time

One of the latest branches of medicine is called chronotherapy, which uses cues from the body’s own clock to treat illnesses and get into shape. So there are best times for taking medicines, exercising, studying, trying for a baby (sperm production is highest in the morning), eating, cleaning the house and even taking a bath.

One study has found that the clock can be shifted an hour back or forward after exposure to bright pulses of light.

Top 5 Signs Your Clock’s Going Cuckoo

  1. Sleeping all the time or not sleeping at all
  2. Depression that is related to the weather; such as feeling low during winter
  3. Hallucinations, exhaustion or paranoia due to lack of sleep
  4. Putting on weight despite eating healthy foods and exercising regularly
  5. Waking up feeling tired with stiff joints and muscles

Winding up

One way of getting your clock right is to get plenty of sunlight. This will aid the production of melatonin, a powerful anti-aging hormone that is manufactured by the pineal gland and helps set the body’s internal clock.

The biorhythms are set by light cues – therefore melatonin is produced each evening after sunset and before dawn.

Melatonin also affects the body’s reproductive functions, metabolic rate, hunger and other bodily processes. Little wonder then that it is prescribed as a supplement to those suffering from sleep disorders due to long night shifts.

How to reset your body clock

  1. Set a fixed time for waking, sleeping, and eating. Start with a good breakfast followed by a light lunch and dinner to regulate your weight. The body converts food into heat and energy in the morning, but in the evening, food is stored as fat.
  2. Don’t binge on high calorie foods for two or more days in a row. This disrupts the clock by slowing down the stomach and in turn affects your metabolism, leading to obesity or diabetes.
  3. Get at least half an hour of early daylight to give your body clock the necessary light cues to regulate your body temperature, energy levels, etc
  4. Your threshold of pain is higher in the afternoon, so if you need to do some really heavy work or visit the doctor for a shot – after your lunch break is a good time.
  5. Your heart, blood vessels, lungs, ovaries, muscles, liver, and kidneys have their own clock and achieve their peak performance at certain times in the day. So if you have problems staying alert when you should, or a tendency to put on weight, eat when your stomach will function at its best.
  6. Those who have to cope with jet lag or shift work should gradually shift the time of eating and resting to their normal routine

Have a restful night.

6 Tips For Fighting Bad Posture: How To Make Sure You Don’t Slump Down And Lose Inches From Your Height As You Grow Older

0
bad posture

If you are sitting on a chair and reading this, you have to read this right through. A slumped back, hunched shoulders and waistlines that jut out and keep spreading are the bane of office workers across the globe. Bad posture is not just ugly its implications on your health are just plain dangerous.

Why Is Bad Posture Terrible For You

  • With bad posture, your rib cage starts pressing down on the major organs – giving them less space to function.
  • Your waistline gains a few inches because of that
  • And you lose a few inches from your height
  • Your stomach will jut out and dieting won’t help
  • You’ll suffer from back aches which won’t go away easily
  • Flexibility is reduced and one shoulder tends to be higher than the other
  • You’ll become injury prone because of poor posture.
  • According to some science, bad posture also leads to having more negative thoughts.
  • Worst of all, you’ll never feel fresh and rested even after you wake up from a good nights sleep

Poor posture diagram

But, and here is the big BUT, you can’t correct bad posture by just sitting up straight. You just can’t. All you will achieve is an unnatural looking posture, a stiff(er) back, tense neck and shoulder muscles and that’s as bad as a slumped spine.

Six Tips To Rectify Your Bad Posture

The answer to bad posture is stronger muscles. A regular dose of flexibility and strengthening exercises are all you need to start with. Here are 6 tips that will help you cultivate better posture habits and build muscle strength and flexibility:

1.Audit Your Posture Everyday: Start each day by paying attention to you spine and your posture. Stand in front of a mirror, distribute your weight evenly on both feet and check to see if your shoulders are too hunched or drawn up. Is your head tilting to one side? Note that the stomach gets pulled in and the neck doesn’t droop forward.

2. Posture Tips While Standing: When at ease, you should feel no tension or pull along your shoulders, neck, pelvis or knees. Keep this in mind as you go through your day. When you get up for a break, stretch a bit and take a few deep breaths. Let your shoulders loosen up. If most of your work is done standing up, try not to rest your weight on just one foot. Keep your feet slightly apart and distribute your weight equally. Or place a box in front of you, slightly larger than a shoe box, and rest one foot on it at regular intervals. This takes the stress of your back for a while.

3. Posture Tips While Sitting: In the office, get yourself a proper chair that gives your back enough support. Uncross your legs, or you would be tilting to one side for hours without realizing it.

4. Quick 3 Second Posture Hack: Every few minutes roll up your shoulders till they almost touch your ears. Combine this quick exercise with a short routine in which you bring your elbows to touch each other.

5. Fix Your Posture And Build Strength With Yoga Focus on strengthening your abdomen, lower back, hips and buttocks. Yoga is good for flexibility and strength. Especially the posture called, “The Plank Pose”. It’s easy to do and there are many variations.

6. Lift Weight To Build Strength Go to the gym and start lifting weights to build your strength and fix your posture.

Expensive Antidepressants: What Your Doctor May Not Know About Big Pharma’s “Slight of Hand”

0
Longevity secrets

A few weeks ago, my wife told me about a family member who appears to be suffering from depression. She asked me to do some research to see what might be done. I told her I would look into it. Here’s what I found.

According to a comprehensive review by U.S. and Canadian researchers, at least 4 commonly prescribed antidepressant drugs simply do not work as advertised.

After examining all data available for the drugs — including unpublished clinical trials by the manufacturers – it was found that patients taking the drugs improved no more than those taking placebo pills. The only exception was among severely depressed patients, who improved slightly more on the drugs than the placebos.

This study is unique in that it is the first time a study has been done using a full set of data from the FDA for the antidepressants Prozac (fluoxetine), Seroxat (paroxetine – also marketed under the brand name Paxil), Effexor (venlafaxine), and Serzone (nefazodone).

Note: After Serzone was linked to liver damage in a small percentage of people, the manufacturer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, discontinued its sale in the United States and Canada in 2004. (It had already been banned in some other countries.) However, the generic form – nefazodone, is still available in the US and Canada.

The authors of the study wrote,

“Using complete datasets (including unpublished data) and a substantially larger dataset of this type than has been previously reported, we find that the overall effect of new-generation antidepressant medications is below recommended criteria for clinical significance.

We also find that efficacy reaches clinical significance only in trials involving the most extremely depressed patients, and that this pattern is due to a decrease in the response to placebo rather than an increase in the response to medication.” Source: PLoS (Public Library of Science) Medicine February 26, 2008

What does this mean?

I know for a fact that some doctors are still prescribing these drugs for elderly patients. So, if you have friends or family who are on these drugs, please show them this article.

I’ve never placed much trust in prescription drugs, although in some cases they can be lifesavers. But if they are no better than jelly beans…

So what alternatives are available to fight depression?

Why Diet Matters

foods antidepressantsA recent study showed that diets with high Omega 6: Omega 3 fatty acid ratios enhanced risk for depression Source: Psychosomatic Med 2007 69: 217-224.

In fact, the study showed those with the highest level of depression had diets high in Omega 6 fatty acids. But, there’s more.

Depression and stress promote something called “proinflammatory cytokine production” and diets high in Omega 6 fatty acids enhance it.

The importance of proinflammatory cytokines is they are related to the onset and course of a spectrum of conditions associated with aging: coronary heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, Type 2 diabetes, approximately 15% of cancers, Alzheimer’s disease, and periodontal disease.

The good news is that Omega 3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties. Good sources of Omega 3s include:

  • Fish
  • Wild game
  • Seeds
  • Nuts, and
  • Green Leafy Vegetables

Doctors suggest we have a 3:1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3. Olive, coconut, & hemp oils have a much better ratio than corn, soy, and canola oils.

A diet high in Omega 3 EFA plus B vitamins such as is found in liver will help reduce depression. If you don’t particularly care for liver, a more palatable substitute is Brewer’s yeast, available in tablets or as a powder that can be added to soups.

Note: (If buying Brewer’s yeast powder, be sure you get the “de-bittered” variety).

Another dietary approach to depression is simply to eat foods naturally high in tryptophan, the precursor for serotonin in the body.

Trytophan is particularly plentiful in chocolate, oats, bananas, mangoes, dried dates, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, red meat, eggs, fish, poultry, sesame, chickpeas, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, spirulina, and peanuts. One of the highest sources is Parmesan cheese!

Make Laughing a Daily Habit

Natural ways to enhance your serotonin levels: L-tryptophan supplementation, exercise, sunlight, and laughter!

Mark Twain said, “Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.”

Rent comedy movies. Learn and tell jokes. Go out of your way to be kind – People who regularly volunteer to help others have measurably higher levels of serotonin.

Treat Your Brain to Healing Scents

burning incense as antidepressants

Religious leaders have contended for millennia that burning incense is good for the soul. Now, biologists have learned that it is good for our brains too.

An international team of scientists, including researchers from Johns Hopkins University and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, describe how burning frankincense (resin from the Boswellia plant) activates poorly understood ion channels in the brain to alleviate anxiety or depression. SOURCE: Science Daily.

Lavender essential oil has been shown to be effective in treating depression. Although essential oils evaporate rapidly, the effects are more lasting.

The aromatic molecules permeate the air. When we inhale the aroma, these molecules travel into the nose and to the olfactory receptors, which transmit this information directly to the limbic system of the brain. The limbic system controls our emotions, influences the production of hormones, the immune system, and the nervous system.

Lavender essential oil has many known uses. It is a great aid for relaxing and winding down before bedtime. On the other hand, its balancing properties can also boost stamina and energy. Lavender is a great aromatherapy essential oil for reducing stress, alleviating fears, and soothing frustrations and irritability… especially in times of crises.

It’s important to find quality essential oils as some companies cut them with “carrier” oils. Since essential “oils” are not really oils at all, a good test is to put a few drops on a cloth. The essential oil should evaporate rapidly leaving no oily residue.

Consider Natural Supplements

natural tablets“A February 2005 study in the British Medical Journal finally put to rest the effectiveness of St. John’s Wort as an antidepressant for people with moderate to severe depression.

Half the study’s participants took the antidepressant Paxil (paroxetine); the other half took a minimum 900 mg daily of St. John’s Wort.

After six weeks on these regimens, one third of those taking the Paxil felt less depressed; but one half of those taking St. John’s Wort were less depressed. The well-designed study also showed that St. John’s Wort caused fewer side effects than Paxil.”

When using this herb, it’s best to find a source made from the flowers and leaves with at least 3-5% hyperforin. One such brand is AMORYN. For potential side effects and drug interactions, please go to amoryn.com.

Caution: If you are currently on an antidepressant, do not take St. John’s Wort. And never stop taking your prescription without talking with your doctor, because most antidepressant medications need to be slowing tapered before discontinuing.

Free for the Picking: 8 neglected backyard antioxidants that are making an incredible comeback

0
Best antioxidant foods

Nearly every day, I see a new advertisement for some overpriced exotic antioxidant food that’s supposed to be the latest thing you just must have to live to a ripe old age.

From native drupes from South America (Acai) to organic coffee berries (yes berries), to an exotic fruit from the Himalayas; we’re told by some celebrity (like Oprah), that we’ve just got to have it. Now, I’m not suggesting these foods aren’t good, but by the time they’ve reached our home, the price is way too steep.

Yet, we tend to ignore what’s available for free in our own backyards.

Here are 8 local wild foods, loaded with vitamins, minerals & antioxidants you might want to consider instead. All of these have various medical properties ascribed to them, but it would take far more space than I have here to differentiate claims from scientific validation.

Eight Neglected Backyard Antioxidant foods

Stinging Nettle

best antioxidant fppdsThe young tender shoots are good in stir-fry or soups, and the fresh or dried leaves make an interesting & healthy tea.

Just add some hot water, steep for 5 minutes, strain, and sip. The Romans collected and consumed nettle seeds.

In Ovidius ‘Ars Amatoria’ there’s even a recipe using nettle seeds in an aphrodisiac drink.

Caution: There’s a strong reason why it’s called Stinging Nettle. The leaves are covered with fine hollow “hairs” which contain formic acid that sting when you touch them.

Once cooked, they are fine, but even the dried leaves can still sting you. I strongly suggest using heavy-duty leather or rubber gloves to handle them.

Note

If you do happen to get stung, juice from the stem will reduce the stinging, and a companion plant frequently found growing near nettle is the common Touch-Me-Not or Jewelweed (Impatiens noli-tangere).

The Touch-Me-Not flower is yellowish orange and often spotted purple to reddish brown. There is another species (I. glandulifera), which has pink or white flowers resembling an orchid. Both species readily self-seed, and do well in moist shady areas. Because the juice immediately quiets the sting of nettle, you may want to grow some in your wild garden.

Dandelion

best food for antioxidantsThe young leaves (before flowering) can be used for salad-greens or added to soups or stir fry. The flowers can be made into wine & even non-alcoholic drinks. The pollen laden flowers can also be added to pancake batter or fritters.

You’ll first want to remove all green portions from the flowers, because they are quite bitter. Of course, you’ll want to avoid dandelions, which have been sprayed with herbicides.

I find the best leaves appear in areas where the surrounding plants force them to grow long and wide to get the sunlight they need. It’s not unusual to find leaves 6”- 8” long.

You can also add some plants to your garden. By feeding them nitrogen rich compost, you’ll be able to encourage leaf growth and extend the harvesting season. The roots of dandelions can be gathered and dried in the fall and make a healthy drink either alone or as an addition to your coffee.

Dandelion has been considered a culinary favorite in Europe for centuries and was actually imported by the early colonists to America where it has spread even into the mountains. A little known fact is the U.S. is a net importer of dandelion parts, which are used in herbal supplements.

Chicory

The best antioxidant foodsTo most people today, chicory is just a little noticed roadside herb with pretty blue summer flowers, but the plants have been cultivated for thousands of years.

It is said that Queen Elizabeth I of England drank chicory broth, and the Egyptians cultivated it around 5000 years ago. Today, it’s seeds & greens are sold as radicchio, which is nothing more than the forced leaves of a variety of chicory.

If you want to grow your own, the plant thrives in rich sandy soil, and responds well to compost.

You can even “force” the roots during the winter months for the specialty green Belgian endive, which make a welcome addition to salads. The ground roots can be added to coffee or drank alone.

Wild blackberries & black raspberries

best antioxidant foods for agingVirtually all berries & especially those with blue-black coloration have antioxidants that apparently protect the body from many ill effects of aging.

If you live in an area where they grow abundantly, consider yourself lucky. Specialty culinary preparers pay as much as $40 a gallon for these sweet berries and make them into jams which sell for premium prices in the market.

Huckleberries

In most parts of the U.S., these berries grow wild and are sold for $30 a gallon or more at roadside stands. Most are blue or black with a flavor similar to blueberries.

Huckleberries grow well in sun or shade and can frequently be found alongside mountain trails. In the Pacific Northwest there is also a red variety that grows well on old cedar stumps. The flavor is tart but quite good.

Huckleberries can be easily frozen or prepared into jams, tarts, and pies. I like to add a few to my summer salads. My chickens love them so much I’ve seen them fly up into the bush and gobble them down.

Alpine bilberry

Bilberry is native to North America, Europe, and Asia from 38o to 78o north latitudes and from sea level to 9,000 + feet elevation. This species grows on wet or dry, acidic, organic or mineral soils and is often found at the edges of lakes and streams.

The plants grow from several inches to about 36 inches tall, bearing single berries or clusters of two or three glaucous, blue berries one-fourth inch in diameter. Flavor is good, but yields are often low.

One of my favorite Labor Day hikes takes me to a couple alpine lakes in the wilderness where these berries grow in such abundance you can literally fill your hand with berries without moving your feet.

These fresh juicy flavorful berries taste similar to blueberries, but are much sweeter. Typically along the trail I’ll also find blue huckleberries and wild blueberries.

Elderberries

Elder flower tea or fritters in the spring and elderberry wine in the summer. The flowers can also be dried and used for tea later. And the berries can be made into jams, jellies, & chutneys. If you’ve never had elderberry wine, you’re missing a rare treat, especially if you make it yourself.

Although the elderberry tree can get up to 30’ tall, it responds well to pruning. My chickens think the berries are a real delicacy.

Fireweed

High in potassium & phosphorus and a good source of Vitamin C. American natives ate the young shoots just like asparagus – lightly steam & eat or use them in stir-fry.

Fireweed tend to grow in open areas, along ditches, and burned over ground (hence the name). The summer flowers of this member of the Evening Primrose family are delicate and rose to purple.

I’m sure if you ask knowledgeable elders in your community, they can tell you about other local plants you can harvest. In the process, you’ll get some healthy exercise & sunshine. And you’ll also know you aren’t nearly so dependent on your grocer for your food.

Just a final note

Although Mugwort is mentioned in the rhyme above, Artemisia vulgaris is now not considered to be safe to take internally. It is a fine aromatic and can be used in herbal baths to relieve aching muscles and joints. It makes a fine ornamental addition to the wild garden, & the sage-like smell of the dried herb is said to repel moths.

91 Year Old Businesswoman Reveals Simple Formula for Healthy Longevity

0
Longevity secrets

Recently I interviewed a lady in her home in the Pacific Northwest. For reasons of confidentiality, I’ll call her Elizabeth.

The first thing that I noticed about Elizabeth is she is warm and engaging. Before I even got to the dining room table, she offered me a cup of coffee.

Born in 1918 of pure Norwegian ancestry, her formula for longevity is interesting more for what she doesn’t do than what she does.

She doesn’t take a handful of the latest anti-aging dietary supplements or eat organic food. She’s not a vegetarian or any other kind of food purist. She doesn’t engage in yoga, tai chi, aerobics or any other formal exercise program. Yet, she doesn’t have any significant health problems. In fact, when I looked over her medications, I saw three, which she probably doesn’t need at all.

Of course, she could just have good genes (and probably does).

I asked Elizabeth if she would tell me her secret for longevity. She smiled and said, “Well, I have several…”

Faith

“I trust in God and don’t worry about anything. I thank the Lord for my blessings daily.”

Could something this simple contribute to longevity? Studies agree it does…

A 1999 interview survey followed 21,204 people over 8 years and showed an increase in life expectancy of 8 years for people who regularly attended some kind of religious service vs. those who never or rarely attended.

A study of 5286 Californians over 28 years found that, after controlling for age, gender, ethnicity, and education; frequent religious attendees were 36% less likely to have died in any year.

Several other studies have also shown a positive relationship between faith and longevity.

Even doctors agree (99% of general practitioners in one survey): Personal prayer or other forms of religious practice can improve the outcomes of medical treatment.

Eat a Well Balanced Diet

“I eat good food.”

Elizabeth has owned and operated three restaurants and still loves to cook and entertain guests. Naturally, she became quite adept at choosing quality food and creating balanced meals.

Avoid Tobacco & Alcohol

“I never had alcohol in my house, and I never smoked. If my guests want to smoke, they do it outdoors.”

Stay Involved With Family, Friends, and the Community

“Staying involved gives me a reason for living. If I didn’t contribute something to others, what would be the point of living?”

Elizabeth socializes with her family and church group (which comes to her house for weekly Bible study).

According to her daughter, she is also a tough opponent when it comes to playing dominoes.

Set Positive Goals

At age 89, Elizabeth located a piece of property with a fabulous view. “I decided this is where I want to live the rest of my life.”

She designed her house to create a continuing passive income. The house is created on three levels and has an attached apartment. It also has three upstairs bedroom suites. She rents the apartment to one of her 3 daughters and the bedroom suites to boarders.

I’m a personal trainer at the gym, and many of my clients would ask me to recommend the best home rowing machines for them. So I decided to write this blog and I hope that it will help you find the best and right rowing machine for your home.

Types of Rowing Machines

To an untrained eye, rowing machines may look the same. But there are different types of rowing machines which will suit you depending on their intensity.

  • Air Resistance Rowing Machines

  • Air/Magnetic Resistance Rowing Machines
  • Piston Resistance Rowing Machines
  • Water Resistance Rowing Machines

These different types of rowing machines have different intensity and feel; you might like the magnetic resistance for a quieter workout, or you might prefer water resistance for realistic action. We shall look into the details of each type in my later post.

Rowing is not like other types of exercise equipment such as the treadmill, which might have impact on the knees or ankles, but it still has its safety risks. Rowing’s common injury is the lower back. So, I always tell my trainees to keep the proper techniques in mind while rowing. I will write about these safety tips as well.

Indoor rowing is a good sport for our cardiovascular system, and it’s working more towards strength endurance. You can try interval training with rowing, which will definitely get those calories burning and soon you’ll get toned muscles and a healthier body. Many people row to lose weight too.

Do you know what the fun thing about indoor rowing is which is different with other exercises? There are competitions around the world (even online) for indoor rowing!

Can’t wait to get your rowing machine already?

So how you do choose the best type of rowing machine for yourself?

How to Choose the Best Rowing Machine

Decided on 1 of the 5 types of rowing machine? Yes? Now, you’re ready to look for the best indoor rowing machine for you. There are a few questions to ask yourself before you can decide which is the right rowing machine for home.

  • 1) Have you tried rowing machines before?
  • 2) How often will you use the rowing machine? Casual or serious rowing?

  • 5) Where to put the rowing machine?

Best Rowing Machine Reviews

With so many rowing machines reviews out there, it might be difficult to believe that the best rowing machine exists. It honestly does exist but you must first know what you are specifically looking for!

Different rowing machines and different brands cater for various needs. So, I’ve picked 6 different rowing machines which I believe are best in their respective categories and have created the rowing machine review for each of my recommendations.

Below are my top picks:

Concept2 Model D Indoor Rowing Machine – Best for Hardcore Rowers

What makes Concept2 Model D Indoor Rowing Machine the best rowing machine compared to other rowing machines in the market?

Check out the sliding seat.

With every row you take, your legs will be compressed and extended together with the muscles in your back and arms. What you’ll gain – strength, flexibility and a toned body!

What I like best about Concept2 Model D Indoor Rowing Machine

That I know that it is the right rowing machine. Just take a look at any of the rowing machines which are used by those who train in rowing club and this is bound to be there. Sweep rowing or sculling – take your pick!

Go around to the regulars and you’ll understand why these users have been faithful to this particular brand after years of usage. If you’re in it for the long-term investment, this should be essentially the only one to consider seriously.

High Quality and Durable

Extremely durable, you can clock up the miles on this Concept2 Model D Indoor Rowing Machine without worrying whether the machine will break down on you the next second. As it is one of the regular machines which rowers train on this, it is pretty much left unsaid that it is there for you for the long-term.

Seemingly indestructible, this piece of equipment has had very little complaint since it was first released on the market – trustworthy, isn’t it?

As this rowing machine does not require high maintenance, the long-term costs shouldn’t burn a hole in your pocket. Couple of swipes of oil on the chain should do the trick.

ProRower H20 RX-750 Home Series Rowing Machine – Best Home Rowing Machine

Calling all home workout enthusiasts, the high-quality ProRower H20 RX-750 Home Series Rowing Machine is your answer for the best home rowing machine.

Offering smooth and natural resistance, it feels just like you’re rowing in the water, but at the comforts of your home!

Suitable for Anyone Except Hardcore Athletes

Compared to treadmill or elliptical or the bike, it suits me regardless of how fit you are. Whether you are physically disabled, or a person who craves a good workout, the resistance can be specifically adjusted based on your own capability.

Why? It is almost child’s play to attain the correct form and rhythm, so all you have to remember is to keep a straight back and row in fluid rhythms. Hearing the ‘wooshing’ sound of the water is heavenly!

Good Bargain

Priced relatively lower than the original water rower, this ProRower H20 RX-750 Home Series Rowing Machine is a great catch. In fact, K. Rogers, a reviewer, gushed over this rowing machine which worked better than most rowers for people who weighed over 250 pounds.

This machine is almost like an addictive drug. Being unconsciously drawn to use it every time they see it is a motivating way to beat laziness. Perhaps it has to do with the excitement of the swishing sound and trying out different styles of rowing!

However, serious hardcore athletes might want to re-think twice before getting this. Due to the inaccurate monitor, it is difficult to track your progress. Having said that, it will not be a major issue for casual rowers who just want to have a nice workout.

Easy to Use

Putting this solid machine together can be done in a blink of an eye. The other ease of use is found in the screen. The 6 different types of pre-set programs can help jump-start your exercise if you’re dilly-dallying.

No more excuses that your body condition is not suitable as the manual setting allows flexible adjustments! The quiet nature of this Kettler HKS Ergo Coach LS Rowing Machine can help you kill two birds with one stone by watching TV or listening to music.

However, it has been commented that since the wheels are too small, you have to decide once and for all where to put your rowing machine. Also, the poor positioning of the power supply for the computer makes it fail at times but Kettler seems reliable in sending technicians.

If age is catching up on you, this BodyCraft VR100 Rowing Machine is softer on the joints which should not lead to any major injuries.

It’s pretty easy to work up a sweat using this if you want a quick jump-start to your day before you head to work. Most use this as an aerobic workout which will not wear down your shoes too quickly as you don’t even need to step out of your home!

A Few Small Drawbacks

There are some drawbacks which you might want to take note of though. The computer is not entirely accurate but if you’re not a competitive rower, this might not concern you too much.

If you’re planning on listening to music or watch the TV while rowing, you might have to turn the volume a notch higher as the fan is relatively noisy. So, it might restrict your rowing hours if you have plenty of sensitive neighbors.

Types of Rowing Machines Explained

Below are five different types of rowing machines, where you can find the difference in terms of the level of resistance:

1) Air Resistance Rowing Machines

Favored over many other rowing machines, this type of rower gives you a smoother row, allowing you to feel as though you were rowing outdoors in the open water. Resistance is generated by a fan or a propeller. This means, the harder you pull, the greater the resistance. So, you can get a better work out through the combination of both aerobic and a total body strength/ tone training.

If you have less space in your home, find models that can be folded as air these machines are typically long. Oh and if you’re environmentally conscious, it’s a machine that fits the bill and which won’t burn a hole in your pocket as it does not use much electricity!

2) Magnetic Resistance Rowing Machines

The advantage over the air resistance rowing machine is it is quieter and offers an easy level for beginners. The magnetic resistance rowing machines tend to be chosen by casual or first-time rowers while the air resistance rowing machine is usually chosen by professional and competitive rowers. Beginners also like the silent rowing action as they can watch the TV or listen to music at the same time.

The downside is the higher the tension, the higher the amount of electrical energy consumed by the electromagnets. So if you’re not looking towards high electric bills in the long run, this may not be the rowing machine for you.

3) Air and Magnetic Resistance Rowing Machines

As the name itself says, this rowing machine is a combination of air resistance and magnetic resistance. This means, you have the freedom to choose any of these options when you want to work out.

Present features are different weight capacities, programmable settings and tension adjustment, the air/magnetic resistance rowing machine is basically the combination of the features mentioned above in the air resistance rowing machines and the magnetic resistance rowing machines.

4) Piston Resistance Rowing Machines

Whoever said rowing is only a luxury item should check out Piston resistance rowing machine. It serves another purpose for those who live in small flats/ apartments as the smaller size take less space.

The downside is that as it is small and might not suit tall people. Serious rowers usually do not buy this as they do not give you the satisfaction of a full elongation.

5) Water Resistance Rowing Machines

Water resistance rowing machine can mimic the real-like rowing function, just like the air resistance rowing machine. Even though they are foldable (ideal for storage purposes), they are better in terms of letting you enjoy a full rowing motion. It is also quieter and good for building high levels of stamina.

A common issue noted by serious rowers is that it is not as efficient as the air rowing machines. A final point is that it is more expensive to buy although the different frames make them look attractive.

Safety Tips when Using a Rowing Machine

Like all exercise, do be careful not to over-exert or to exercise in the wrong technique.

Before you row, tick off from this checklist:

  • Check with your doctor if it is safe for you to undertake rowing
  • If possible, look at the manual for rowing and get a trainer for proper techniques
  • Start off with easy rowing to warm-up your muscles
  • Slowly build intensity and add time into your program. Start with a few minutes and add to it each day
  • A good target will be between 24 and 30 strokes per minute
  • There are a few positions/ techniques in general when it comes to rowing

1. Catch Position/ Starting position

  • Take a seat and strap your feet firmly onto the foot pads
  • Grab the handles, extend your arms straight while keeping your wrists flat
  • Slide forward on the seat but stop when your shins are vertical
  • Bend forward slightly at the hips Follow the starting position: extend your arms straight and keep your wrists flat

2. Drive Position

  • Extend your legs and push off from the foot pads
  • Keep your core tight, straighten your arms and keep a firm back to transfer the power to the handles
  • Bend your arms and lean your upper body back as you straighten your knee
  • The motion ends with a slightly backward lean

3. Finishing Position

  • To pull the handle into your abdomen, bend your elbows and extend your legs
  • Just lean ever so slightly to the back from your hips

4. Recovery Position

  • Straighten your elbows and your arms will extend automatically
  • Follow that by leaning forward from your upper body
  • Slowly bend your knees to slide forward, coming to the starting position

Now that you have learned the techniques, watch out for common mistakes:

  • Leaning too far back or leaning too far forward can cause back pain
  • If you keep your arms loose, that will jerk the handle back and will not let you strengthen your arms fully

So what’s the secret to rowing beautifully?

  • Practice, practice, practice!
  • Don’t rush, take your time to improve. Geniuses aren’t made in a day
  • Don’t let your legs laze around. Get them rowing, not just with the arms!

As you can see from the above, it’s not about achieving the perfect technique in a minute or in a day. Start slowly, focusing on technique instead of brute strength. Don’t work-out intensely in your first session as your muscles may not have time to adapt. That might result in a backlash, with too sore muscles or strained muscles, which will be worse as you might have to put practicing rowing on hold for an even longer period of time.

All sports take time to learn but rowing is easy to progress once you have picked it up!

Best coffee grinder reviews: For home use- Updated March 2017

0

So you want to know how to grind coffee beans. Well let me tell you it ain’t rocket science. This is one of the easiest and most overlooked steps in making that great espresso.

Don’t forget ground coffee should not be exposed to air any longer than necessary. The beans covering has been removed as part of the roasting process.

It has been ground exposing more of the surface. These factors combined with air exposure cause oxidation. That means the taste of the ground is altered…for the worse.

So, how to grind coffee beans? Grind them at home. This will result in the least exposure to air and the freshest grounds. And you can grind only what you immediately need.

To grind coffee beans you will need a coffee grinder. One word of advice: Pick the best coffee grinder you can afford. Not all grinders are equal.

Learning how to grind coffee beans is as easy as filling the hopper, setting an adjustment knob for the coarseness of bean you want and pushing a button.

There are generally two types of Grinders: Blade Grinders and Burr Grinders.

Let me tell you about both. In the end you will see only one type should be considered as your grinder for espresso.

Blade Grinders

These grinders don’t actually grind at all. They chop and slice at the beans. A whirling blade slices the beans smaller and smaller. What is left is beans of different sizes. They are also too large for espresso.

Remember for espresso you need an extra fine ground of consistent size. This allows water to flow through the grounds at an even rate and extract the same flavor oils.

Another downfall to the blade grinder is the production of heat often generated. In an attempt to get an extra fine grind, the machine would need to run longer. This can warm the coffee ground and release some of its oils and aromas. It can also burn the ground. Leaving an unpleasant bitter taste.

So in the jouney of how to grind coffee beans for your espresso, leave this type of grinder on the shelf.

Burr Grinders

The best grinder for espresso!

This type of grinder actually grinds the coffee beans. It has a pair of motor driven plates, one spinning and one stationary. As the beans pass through, a uniform grind is produced. Better models allow you to adjust the size of the grain and the speed of the grinding.

Adjusting the size is important. It allows you to “fine tune” the grounds for espresso. Controlling the speed is also important. We don’t want the beans to become over heated.

Others terms you might come across are doser/doserless. The doserless unit will have a bin which catches the coffee grinds. You then remove the bin and scoop out the coffee.

A doser unit will have a special feature on the machine which will catch the grinds. It can then dispense a predetermined amount of grinds and hold a portion of grounds. Convenient for commercial use.

Stepless/stepped are yet more terms. A stepless grinder means you can fine tune the grind. The adjustment knob is worm gear driven. This lets you grind at precise increments in between the knob settings.

For a stepped grinder, you use only the increments given on the knob. Either is fine and will come down to personal preference.

Let me mention burr grinders also fall into 2 classes: Flat plate and conical. Depending on the model, both types do the job very well. I will give recommendations for each type and let you decide.

Top Picks Conical Espresso Coffee Grinder

A conical espresso coffee grinder with burr blades is a great choice for a grinder.

Well, there aren’t too many conical burr grinders I can recommend. Sure, there are other conical espresso coffee grinders on the market but the reviews are not glowing. Some grinders don’t last long and others don’t do a good job at grinding for espresso.

Best Conical Grinder for Espresso

Ascaso With Coffee Bean Hopper

This conical grinder has heavy duty conical burrs. The hopper holds 1.32 lbs of coffee beans. The grinder has a heavy duty grinding group with up to 6.6 lbs of production per hour. Best when used for one grind type, such as espresso.

Capresso 560 Burr Grinder

This conical grinder has commercial grade burr blades made of solid steel. There are 16 different settings for grinding the beans. The unit grinds the beans slowly reducing heat buildup and static on the grinds.

Flat Plate Burrs

We know the espresso beans coffee grinders will use burrs to grind. This section gives recommendations for flat plate burr grinders.

Some units listed below indicate semi-commercial, commercial grade, etc. Since the units are high quality and reasonably priced, these grinders are routinely used for home use too.

Gaggia MDF Burr Coffee Grinder

A semi-commercial grinder. 50 mm tempered steel grinding burrs. Flat plate burrs. This unit adjust to 34 different settings. 10 ounces bean hopper. Dosing grinder comes in black or white finish. This is a very nice espresso grinder for the beginner.

Rancilio Rocky

One of the best espresso beans coffee grinders over the past few years. This is a semi-commercial unit which has found its way into the kitchens of many home baristas. The recommended doserless model allows the coffee grinds to be delivered right to your portafilter. 50mm flat plate burrs. This unit has a commercial grade motor.

Pasquini ‘K2’ Moka Doserless

Another semi-commercial grinder which has found its place in the home market. Home, office & small commercial use. Doserless grinder. 25 Grind Settings. 48mm flat burrs.

Mazzer Mini

This is a light commercial grinder seen in lower volume coffee bars as well as home kitchens. Flat plate burrs are 58mm and made of Swedish hardened steel. Top quality and top rated grinder. This unit has a doser.

Macap 4

This is a comparable unit to the Mazzer Mini. Another light commercial grinder with a fan base of home users. 58mm burrs. Steel body with chrome covering.

Are Commercial Burr Coffee Grinders Right for You?

How do you know if commercial burr coffee grinders are right for you? Do you grind a high volume of beans daily? Own a coffee shop or espresso cart business? Then you most likely need a commercial unit.

Commercial coffee grinders are a step up from the home and light commercial units in the above links. But if your business uses more volume it may mean you need a commercial grinder. Also, keep in mind most commercial grade espresso machines come with a grinder built in. So you may not need a separate unit after all.

Characteristics of Commercial Grinders:

  • Heavy duty
  • Large burrs
  • Flat plate burrs, almost always
  • Large Bean Hopper
  • Frame/body of the unit is usually metal (instead of plastic)
  • Weight of grinder is heavier and may be less portable

Recommendations for Commercial Burr Coffee Grinders

La Pavoni Zip Grinder

Semi-automatic dosing grinder. Body made of die-cast anodized aluminum. Flat plate burrs, 65.5mm. Hopper Capacity 2.2 lbs. Output per hour 13 lbs. Weight 29 lbs.

Anfim Super Caimano Professional

75mm Titanium Flat Grinding Burrs produce less heat than smaller steel burrs common among lesser grinders. 90 step adjustments. Hopper Capacity: 4.4 lbs.

Brew and Grind Coffee Makers Combo

I know you’re here for the espresso. But I want to mention brew and grind coffee makers.

Some days you need an automatic drip coffee maker instead of an espresso machine. Like most days in my house or when I am having a large party. Consider this maker since it has a built-in grinder that uses conical burrs.

Capresso 464.05 CoffeeTeam GS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker with Conical Burr Grinder: you add the beans, pour in the water, program the number of cups of coffee you want and the strength.

The machine does the rest! You can even program the machine to brew coffee at a certain time. This is a great feature that lets you have coffee ready when you wake up.

The magic that you are missing at home is fresh ground coffee.  You can buy the best coffee maker in the world, but without fresh grinding your coffee, it’s never going to have that aroma and taste.  Not all coffee grinders are created equal either.  Some are far better than others, but you don’t need to break the bank for a great home grinder.   For the price of a few weeks worth of big coffee chain mornings, you can have your very own high end grinder.

What Makes Fresh Ground Coffee Beans That Great?

You wouldn’t think about it when looking into your cup, but the flavor of coffee is very much about oils.  A properly roasted coffee bean has a large number of different flavorful oils contained within the bean.  Coffee beans are a vegetable after all and we are all familiar with the myriad forms of vegetable oil available on the market.  These oils are transformed during the roasting process, similar to the reaction that turns a boring old raw potato stick into a french fry.

Once a coffee bean is crushed, those oils begin to evaporate almost immediately.  After 30 minutes, the majority of flavor oils have completely evaporated.  You can freeze dry your ground coffee, vacuum seal it, pack it in a can right after grinding and slow down this loss, but nothing you will do will stop this process once the beans have been ground.  Other than immediate brewing of course.

Don’t believe it?  Try it for yourself.  Go to your favorite coffee shop and ask them to grind you some coffee to take home.  Take a good whiff of it as you walk out the door.  What you smell is your coffee flavor rising into the air, never to see the inside of your cup.  Put that coffee in the freezer for a few days.  Take it back to the coffee shop and ask them to do another grind.  Smell your old coffee vs the one just ground and you will be amazed at the difference.

Even Single Cup Brewers Can Enjoy Fresh Ground

Even if you use a single cup brewer like those made by Keureg, you can enjoy fresh ground coffee too.  There are a number of products on the market that match the K-cup size and shape that take fresh ground coffee.  Keep those prepackaged cups for when you are in a rush, but grind and fill your own reusable K-cup whenever you have the time for a better single cup of coffee.

How To Choose a Great Coffee Grinder?  Know The Types!

There are three main types of coffee grinders available to the home grinder today. If you can’t afford the very best coffee grinders, or even a good grinder, you will still get an amazing taste difference with ANY grinder.

The Burr Grinder – Until recently, a standard burr grinder was the biggest bang for your buck.  They are typically priced under $100 and there are a few models available for around $50.  The burr grinder uses two similar sized and shaped grinding wheels to crush the beans between them.  The grind can be adjusted by changing the distance between the metal wheels.  While it is possible to get a good espresso grind from a burr grinder, a conical burr grinder will do a much better job.  It will be very difficult to get a decent turkish coffee grind from a regular burr grinder.  The largest drawback to a burr grinder is that it needs to be disassembled and cleaned of excess grounds on a regular basis.

The Conical Burr Grinder – The sweet spot for home coffee grinding has recently become the conical burr grinder.  Until recently it was hard to find a decent conical burr grinder for less than $150, but recent price breaks have hit the $80 mark for a high end adjustable conical burr grinder.  Similar to a regular burr grinder, the conical version has two metal cones of different sizes, one inside the other that grinds the coffee beans.  The greater surface area allows for much finer grind precision and the shape of the cones allows for more of the coffee grinds to fall all the way through, requiring much less frequent cleaning.  If you want to make your own espresso or lattes at home, this is the grinder for you.

The Blade Grinder – The economy model of the coffee grinding world, the blade grinder is basically a motor that spins a metal chopping blade.  More aptly named a coffee chopper, the blade grinder has a number of drawbacks and really only one benefit.  The price on a blade grinder can’t be beat, with the most popular models clocking in at under $20.  However, it’s impossible to even come close to a good espresso grind with a blade grinder, and it’s extremely difficult to achieve a consistent grind.  The speed of the blade and the friction created tend to heat up the grinds, which can affect the flavor.  However, all that being said, if you are on a budget the price of a blade grinder simply cannot be beat.

Best coffee roasters for home use

Roasting coffee at home can be an incredibly rewarding experience! Coffee roasters for home use will allow you to cut out the middle man.

You will be able to buy your own fresh green coffee and roast it to exactly how you like it. And you won’t have to worry about the flavor that is lost from the time it is roasted to the time you drink it.

For those truly interested by the idea of roasting coffee at home, a good coffee roaster is ideal. This new trend of roasting at home is thought of as part of the “hobby” of making that perfect espresso. A roaster will allow you to experiment to get your coffee just right.

The main draws of a coffee roaster are the stability and consistency they offer. While, home roasting with a frying pan or the oven might be classic, fun ways to approach coffee roasting, commercial roasters can be set, timed, and calibrated to do what you want.

Please keep in mind these units need proper ventilation when in use. They will produce varying degrees of smoke when roasting. Follow the manufacturer’s suggestions on proper venting (usually placing roaster near stove top vent which is turned on). And never leave the roaster unattended.

Things to Consider When Buying a Home Roaster

How much will I roast?

The first thing to consider when choosing a home roaster is just how much coffee you’ll be drinking. The range of batch size is between 3 and 9 ounces. That means no one roaster will provide you with more than three or four days worth of coffee. For that reason, you’ll want to choose based on how often you plan on roasting and when you’ll have time to roast your coffee.

Note: While most coffee roasters are fairly solid pieces of equipment, it’s not advised to crank out multiple batches of coffee every day. Definitely follow the manufacturers instructions for frequency of use.

What flavor do I like?

Also, consider the flavor and style of your beans when deciding to buy a home coffee roaster. There are two types of roasters: Fluid Bed Roasters and Drum Roasters. Each of these roast in a different way and will result in a different taste.

Fluid Bed Roasters (Hot Air)

Do you want to roast quickly and sharper, more acidic beans are to your liking? The smaller machines, often fluid bed roasters, will roast your beans quicker than most, in about 10 minutes or so. While the batches are smaller, they are much quicker. And the resulting bean is more acidic.

Drum Roasters

On the other hand, drum roasting machines offer similar results to the classic methods of pan frying or oven roasting. With a slow, steady roast that relies on moving the bean around at a lower temperature, drum roasting machines produce a fuller bodied tasting bean.

Freshroast SR-300 Roasts small batches of a quarter pound but do2017 best coffee roasters for home usees a great job! This deal from Amazon comes with 1 lb. Green Coffee. This is the new model of an old favorite.

Swissmar A8200 Bravi Roasts 2 to 8 ounces of beans.

Behmor Home Coffee Roaster Roasts from one quarter to a full pound of coffee. Minimum noise and smoke, making it well suited to home use. 8 pounds coffee + free shipping too!

Gene Cafe Roasts 1/2 lb. of coffee beans! Very consistent roast and probably the best home roaster around.Actually, is a drum roaster that also utilizes hot air.

How big is the roaster?

Size of the roaster seems directly proportionate to the quality of the roaster. The smallest and simplest of the coffee roasters are not only cheaper, but much simpler to use. For people that don’t drink coffee quite so much or plan on spending vast amounts of time roasting their own, these machines are ideal.

However, they don’t offer the control that a larger machine might. For example, a larger drum roaster has a few more options and the ability to stop the roasting at a specific time to get the exact roast you are looking for without burning your beans.

Can the roaster be programmed?

The more elaborate of a coffee roaster you get, the more programmable features are often offered with your machine. More expensive, higher end models will often offer profile programming, allowing you set exactly how you like a certain roast.

Generally, when choosing a coffee roaster for your home, the most important thing to consider is exactly how you’ll be using it. If you merely want the chance to tinker and roast your own beans for an occasional cup of coffee, a small machine might be perfect for you.

If you plan on roasting different styles, drinking your roasted coffee on a daily basis, or experimenting with different methods, a larger drum roasting machine might be better suited for your needs.

What about commercial coffee roasters?

hinking about commercial coffee roasters? If you have a cafe, restaurant or other coffee/espresso business, roasting your own beans may give you that extra edge. Or maybe you want to become a roaster yourself? And sell your own special roast?

Commercial coffee roasters offer stability and consistency. Batch after batch of coffee delivers the same results. Commercial roasters can be set, timed, and calibrated to do what you want. Of course, roasting your own beans means the absolutely freshest coffee available.

Another plus will be the huge savings you’ll see. After all, you are cutting out the middle man, buying green beans in bulk and roasting your own.

If you are considering a commercial roaster, please call the company and speak to someone. This will be a larger purchase for your business and you want to make the right choice.

Best espresso machine buying guide for the complete novice

Espresso machines for the home and office have gained in popularity over the last 20 years. Like the toaster oven replacing the toaster, espresso machines are quickly replacing coffee makers.

Automatic Espresso Machines

Looking for Automatic Espresso reviews and recommendations? Don’t understand the lingo? Before you buy an Automatic espresso machine, let’s first understand the terminology.

The “Automatic” machines are so named because some or all of the espresso making process is done automatically by the machine. Also, all of the “Automatic” espresso makers are electric and use a pump to drive water through the portafilter.

Fully automatic espresso makers are perfect if you want to be able to enjoy a great cup of espresso in your own home. Choosing a fully automatic is a great way to get the espresso you love on a daily basis.

But before you go out and buy one, you need to learn all you can and decide which type of espresso machine is right for you. So what exactly are fully automatics and how do they work?

Note: Fully automatic is sometimes referred to as automatic. This can confuse things as all the pump driven machines are automatics.

The fully automatic maker is similar to the semi automatic except the water is automatically turned off. The volume of water brewed is programmed by the user. In fully automatic espresso makers, water is still delivered by a pump and a valve is used for remaining brew pressure.

When using a fully automatic espresso maker, you will set a programmed amount of water to flow through the flow-meter and then the pump is automatically turned off and the brew pressure released through a three-way valve. This helps you produce the perfect cup of espresso every time.

How Do They Work?

Like all espresso machines, hot water is delivered via a pump and forced through coffee grounds under pressure to create your espresso.

Since temperature and pressure are very important in creating the perfect espresso, the machines are built to get these steps just right for the perfect drink every time. If not, the wrong pressure or variation in temperature can lead to a sub par espresso.

Evaluating Your Needs

When shopping for your own fully automatic espresso machine, what sort of things should you look for?

Here are some questions to ask yourself. Keep in mind some fully automatics can also act like semi automatics by turning off the programmable feature.

  • Do I want to program the amount of water for the shot? If yes, a fully automatic meets this requirement.
  • What is my experience with espresso machines and how much am I willing to learn? Am I willing to learn how to grind/dose/tamp? If not, a super automatic machine may be in order.
  • Do I have a brand preference?
  • What is my budget?

Semi Automatic Espresso Machine

The semi automatic espresso machine might be the right choice for you. After all, it is the most popular choice when buying an espresso machine.

The features on this type of espresso machine are not automatic. This will allow you more control over how the espresso is made. And more room for experimenting to find what suits your taste.

Like other automatics, a semi automatic espresso machine uses a pump to carry the water to the portafilter. With a semi, you will need to turn on and off the water used for making the espresso. Also, you will have to grind the coffee beans, add the grinds to the portafilter and tamp.

Many home espresso aficionados and baristas use a semi automatic just for these reasons. They have control over these steps when making the perfect espresso. They are the “purists” of espresso making.

This type of machine also does a great job of maintaining brew temperature and pump pressure, two vital components of making a great shot.

How Super Automatic Coffee Espresso Machines Work

So how exactly do these super automatic espresso coffee machines work? Fill the hopper with beans, add water (if not plumbed) and push a button! They don’t call them super automatics for nothing!

These machines have built in conical burr grinders. Other types of espresso machines, like semi and fully automatics require manual grinding.

After the coffee is ground and the portafilter is filled, the super automatic machine tamps the grounds. Mind you, all automatically.

A preset amount of water is then extracted by force and pressure through the ground coffee to produce your perfect espresso! The used espresso puck is ejected into a discard bin inside the machine.

Most super automatic coffee espresso machines use 2 thermoblock heating elements. One for brewing and one for steaming. If a cappuccino or latte is needed, the steam wand is ready to go.

Another great feature is the machine needs very little time to produce the next espresso. This is necessary for the busy coffee shop.

Also keep in mind most super automatics are programmable and will let you tweak your settings, such as dose, temperature, etc.

You don’t ever have to worry about being an expert at making espresso because the machine does the hard work for you!

What to Look For

What should you look for when buying a super automatic coffee espresso machine? Well, your budget is going to play a part in what type of machine you can afford. Other things to consider are a matter of taste and what works for you.

Sme other things you might want to look for are:

  • Warranty
  • Extras/accessories
  • Cup Warmer
  • Frothing Wand
  • Hot Water Dispenser
  • Water Filter
  • Programmable Option
  • Volume of Water Dispensed

Commercial Espresso Machines

Commercial espresso makers are not just for the local coffee shop anymore. Own a restaurant? Or how about at work? The office is nearly as important a place to have ample sources of coffee every morning as anywhere else.

Along with dozens of other workplaces, it’s not realistic to expect a simple at home espresso maker to stand up to the rigors of the massive daily demand of dozens of coffee hungry workers or customers.

For that reason commercial espresso makers are designed to be bigger, more durable, and ultimately more efficient than those smaller, quicker machines you might find in someone’s kitchen. But for the serious espresso lovers, the commercial units are turning up in the home too.

Prices for commercial espresso machines usually start in the four figure range. So it’s important to know exactly what you need.

Think about which features are most important for your commercial espresso maker. A coffee shop with a hundred customers a day is clearly going to be in need of different features than a third floor office serving a dozen or so employees five days a week.

Speed

Speed should be a top consideration when buying a commercial machine.

With most commercial espresso machines, heat up time should be negligible. They are in fact designed for quick ease of use, but how fast do you actually need it?

If you have customers waiting in line for that latte, you’ll want a fully or super automatic machine capable of resetting and loading your drinks as quickly as possible. Your milk should not take longer than a few seconds to steam.

However, if your office or workplace is merely looking for a good, fancier way to drink their morning coffee, coworkers can wait the extra few minutes. The machine will need time to reset before the next shot.

It’s a matter of necessity when speaking of speed and often the price will reflect this. The higher end machines will manage upwards of 175 cups an hour in output, well beyond what any office could expect to need.

Size

Size may matter!

Besides speed, you’ll want your commercial espresso machine to be of a fairly decent size. Large enough to accommodate as many patrons as possible. It should have a decent sized water reservoir and a large hopper for your coffee beans.

Cleaning
And for those office place settings, the subject of cleaning might arise.

Some machines are simpler than others to take apart for a quick and easy clean after initial use. While café machines will be cleaned in the course of the day, at work or home it might not get readily done.

You’ll want a simple, easy to clean machine.

Pressure

For most commercial uses, you’ll want a machine fully capable of making all drinks, including crema.

The pressure points are important, often between 11 and 18 bars of pressure is considered best.

Casual settings with a set amount of drinks produced daily will not need quite the durability or pressure requirements of a machine used in a commercial, restaurant or café setting.

When choosing a commercial espresso maker, consider a variety of machines that fit your budget. Make sure you know exactly what you’ll be using the machine for. And if it fits your budget, go for it! A commercial machine in the home is the be all and end all!

Buying Refurbished Espresso Machines

Refurbished. That word means big savings! A refurbished super automatic espresso machine needs to be considered. Generally a refurb will be a return, open box sample or factory reconditioned unit.

A super automatic machine is a perfect choice for someone looking for a machine that offers bean grinding, filtering, and brewing along with a full range of automatic features.

And a refurbished super automatic espresso machine is one of the best choices out there. It offers a quality machine with all of those features for a reduced price.

When looking for a refurbished super automatic espresso machine, it’s important to know the range of features these machines offer. First off, the super automatic is a complicated machine. It does quite literally everything.

The following checklist is helpful if you can actually test the machine. If you are buying a refurbished unit online, all the testing has been done for you. It is still best to buy a refurbished super automatic espresso machine which comes with a warranty.

Easiest way to find Refurbished Espresso Machines? Check out Amazon.com! Choose an espresso machine of interest from Amazon and click. Under pricing and delivery information, a REFURBISHED link may be present for the item. Amazon lists 3rd party vendors from top name espresso sites on the internet. Save time by locating refurbished units through Amazon!

Checklist for Refurbished Machines

Programmable Features

Most of the time, you’ll want and thus expecting the fully programmable aspects of an automatic machine. Test the input and make sure all digital displays and timers are properly calibrated.
There’s no need to purchase an expensive refurbished machine to find that the most important part, the ability to set how much coffee you want and how you want it, is broken.

Burr Grinders

Check the grinding mechanisms. If the machine has a pre-grinding or pre-brewing feature, make sure they work properly and don’t catch.

Because most refurbished super automatic espresso machines carry out the entire coffee brewing operation, you should make sure each step in that process works properly, without problems. Meaning, if you can, run the machine through a quick cycle and see how it operates.

Heating Elements

The heating elements should only take about 45 seconds or so to switch between brewing and steaming cycles, and if you have a dual element machine, almost no time at all.

If you find yourself waiting for a couple of minutes for the steaming apparatus to warm up, your refurbished super automatic espresso machine might need more refurbishing.

Most of all, be sure you know exactly which features you are most interested in. Because you are buying a used machine, you might not have the luxury of being too picky, but there are certain features you might be more interested in than others.

If you absolutely must have control over things like taste, make sure the machine has adjustable grinder and dosage settings, and that they work properly. If your coffee is ground too finely, it might turn out bitter and could ruin your espresso. On the other hand, not fine enough and you’re not getting the flavor you want.

Likewise, you can adjust the amount of coffee that is ground by changing the dosage, weakening or strengthening the taste the more traditional way.

You also might want the ability to change and adjust the actual temperature of the water and output of your machine. While drip coffee brews between 190 and 205 degrees, espresso will often end in your cup at no more than 170 degrees. If you are a fan of blisteringly hot morning brew, you might want the option to adjust these settings.

A refurbished super automatic espresso machine is a perfect choice for someone on a budget. With so many features built into a good machine though, it’s important to make sure each and every one is working properly and that the features you most care about are present. Why purchase a machine if it does not offer everything you want in a good espresso?

How to Make espresso like a pro

So you want to be a barista (expert maker of coffee drinks) and learn how to make espresso like a pro?

Well, don’t quit your day job! I’ll show you the 5 easy steps essential to great espresso.

Water

It all starts with water! Don’t ruin good espresso coffee grounds with bad water. Start by making sure the water is fresh.

How to make espresso quality water?

Use your own water if you are lucky enough to have great tasting tap. I was not that fortunate. Pink rings in my sink convinced me I needed a water filter.

I bought an inexpensive hook on water filter that I absolutely love. It feels good knowing my body is not longer doing the filtering of subpar water. Plus, I no longer buy bottled water. So the savings were huge.

Coffee

How could we make espresso without coffee?

We can’t.

The definition of espresso is coffee brewed by forcing steam or hot water through finely ground darkly roasted coffee beans.

There are generally 2 types of beans:

    • Arabica
Be sure to select arabica for your beans or ground coffee. It doesn’t matter so much what country the beans come from. As long as they are arabica.
    • Robusta
The other choice would be robusta beans. These beans are easier to grow than arabica. They have twice as much caffeine but definitely less flavor. Of course you could use robusta for a quick jolt but use arabica as a rule.

Roasting

How to make espresso better? Roasting your own beans, of course! All sorts of methods are used for home roasting. From frying pans to ovens to hot air popcorn poppers.

I’m too chicken to use anything other than a coffee roaster so I can’t vouch for other methods. Whatever you choose, NEVER leave your roasting coffee beans unattended.

Grinding

If you can use a blender, you have the skills required to use a coffee grinder! This is an important step in how to make espresso great.

For the best espresso, the ground coffee should not be exposed to air any longer than necessary. A grinder will allow you to grind immediately before use.

Some espresso machines now come with built in grinders. If yours does not, invest in a stand alone grinder. I actually prefer the grinder separate from the espresso unit. For more information on grinders, see our page: How to grind coffee beans.

Maybe grinding your own beans is not for you…not yet. That’s ok. For now, pre-ground beans will suffice and can be found locally or on the internet. Just keep in mind grinding your own beans is probably the most important part of making the perfect espresso!

Espresso Machines

Last but not least, the best tip on “how to make a great espresso” comes down to the espresso machine. A clean machine of good quality. Avoid cheapo machines that rely on steam to create pressure. The best machines heat by boiler or a thermoblock.

Now you have the 5 basic steps on how to make an espresso…and a great espresso at that! But what about actually using the machine?

Making Cappuccino and Espresso Using a Machine

Making cappuccino takes espresso making one step further – by adding steamed and frothed milk. You do know how to make an espresso using a machine, don’t you? If you don’t know how to use an espresso machine, read on.

Keep in mind all espresso machines will vary according to the model. However, the process for making cappuccino and espresso pretty much remains the same. Below is an overview of using an espresso machine.

Step 1: Prewarm the Machine

Make sure your machine is clean. Run fresh cold water through the machine. Turn on the machine and let the water heat. Without adding coffee, let the machine cycle into an empty cup. Discard the cycled water. This action warms the surfaces of the machine and flushes the system. Add desired amount of fresh water for brewing to machine.

Step 2: Add your Ground Coffee

Making cappuccino and espresso requires the right amount of coffee. Add your preweighed (ideally 7g per oz.) or measured ground roasted coffee to the filter basket in the portafilter (removable device with handle). Pack (tamp) it down but leave slightly concave. You should feel some springiness but the coffee shouldn’t scatter. The compressing of the coffee results in what is called a “puck”.

Step 3: Load and Start Espresso Machine

Insert and lock the portafilter onto the brew-head (also called “group”, holds portafilter on machine and directs water from boiler to poratfilter). Place a warmed espresso cup (2-3 oz. size) or cappuccino cup (6-8 oz. size) at the outlet. Start the espresso machine.

Step 4: Pull your Shot

For a general guideline, the “ideal” extraction time should be between 25 and 30 seconds for 1 1/2 oz. espresso. Under 25 seconds will produce weak espresso. Over 30 seconds will result in a bitter espresso.

Here is where you will have to experiment and tweak your technique. Maybe adjust the grind size…too big and water flows too fast leaving a weak espresso. Too fine and water does not flow quickly enough causing a longer pull time and hence, a bitter espresso.

Step 5: Espresso

Enjoy! The golden-reddish brown dense froth layer formed on top is called the “crema”. It is made of oils, protein and sugars and is a delicious part of the espresso. If your shot doesn’t have a crema layer or the layer is thin, pale, etc. you need to adjust your technique and try again! Practice makes perfect!

Best Dog Bark Collar Reviews For Dog Bark Collar Seekers

1

Does your dog bark so excessively that you cannot stand it? Do you get a lot of complaints from your neighbors about your dog’s barking? Do you want to stop your dog’s excessive barking as fast as and as effectively as possible? If so, a dog bark collar is a perfect choice for you.

This article focuses on reviewing the best dog bark collars offered today on the market. This will give you more information on dog barking collars so you can make your informed decision before purchasing the best one for your lovely pet.

barking collars for dogs reviewsCitronella Dog Bark Collars

The first dog barking behavior control supplier is Citronella Bark Collar. This device is indeed one of the best forms when it comes to controlling excessive barking created by your four-legged friend.

It works by releasing a spray of citronella whenever the dog barks. Your dog can hear it, see it and most importantly, can smell it. So, the dog will quickly find out that whenever he or she barks, the Citronella bark collar will spray.

Citronella bark collar is one of the most common dog barking training aids on the market nowadays. The reason is that this kind of device uses a harmless citronella spray to stop your dog’s excessive barking behavior.

The Citronella dog bark collar is scientifically proven to be twice as effective compared to electric shock collars.

Whether your dog is the largest breed or only small dog, this collar still works very well for the dog. Because it is adjustable up to 24 inches and weighs only 2.5 ounces.

The premier citronella bark collar kit comes with a bark sensing unit, one citronella refill can, an adjustable strap, two 6 volt alkaline batteries and instructions manual.

By purchasing the premier citronella bark collar, you are good on your way to achieving control over your dog’s barking problem.

Tips on using the Citronella Bark Collar

There are some tips you should know before buying this citronella bark control collar. Here they are:

  • In the process of attaching the spray device to the strap, if you fail to pass the loose strap through the keeper, you will increase the likelihood that the strap will slop causing a need to constantly adjust the fit. So, try not to fail to do so.
  • The device cannot be overfilled, so do not try to do that. There are normally 25 sprays in the reservoir once completely filled.
  • In order to extend battery life, you must turn the spray device of the premier citronella bark collar off when it’s not in use.
  • Because the reservoir only holds 25 sprays when completely filled, you must take the collar off and then refill the reservoir with citronella before it becomes dry. If you do not do so, you accidentally teach your dog that if he (she) is persistent, he (she) will be able to get rid of the spray.
  • The spray comes in the type of organic and non-toxic to humans, animals and the environment, so you can use the collar indoors or outdoors anytime your dog keeps barking continuously, and do not stop no matter you yell at him “shut up”, “quiet”, etc,…
  • If you love your dog and care about him so much (I know you do), you might realize that the dog needs to play and relax. So, do not leave the premier citronella bark collar on the dog 24 hours a day. It’s recommended that the collar should be put on the dog no more than eight hours per day.
  • While your dog is swimming, you must take the Premier citronella bark collar out of the dog’s neck. The reason is the spray device, though, is water resistant, but not waterproof, so it may stop working if it is put in water.
  • If you put the spray device away for more than a week, do not forget to take the battery out and then empty the reservoir.
  • If you want to prolong the spray device and the Premier citronella bark collar, simply fill the spray device only (and only) with recommended spray products. And off course, you must always store the spray device away from kids reach.
  • If your dog has problems related to health, you should consult a veterinarian before trying to use this successful training system.

The Premier citronella bark collar has been proven to be 90% effective at stopping or curbing dog barking. This citronella bark collar trains the dog quickly and painlessly that barking will trigger the bark collar to spray citronella onto his face, and there is only one way to get rid of being emitted a spray is to stop barking.

Last but not least, there are two things to bear in mind if you want to use a citronella bark collar to modify bad barking behavior of your dog. Those are:

  1. You must make sure the microphone’s sensitivity is properly adjusted. Because if you do not, the device will pick up sounds of other dogs barking and make a correction by spraying citronella into your dog’s nose. It’s not fair for the dog, right?
  2. The cost it takes to refill batteries and citronella is expensive. The monthly cost is about $40.  However, the result this collar brings you worth its price.

Lentek Super Bark Free

Lentek Super Bark FreeThe Lentek Super Bark Free emits either ultrasonic or audible sound to discourage dogs from barking.

This outdoor device will train most dogs that barking results in an unpleasant ultrasonic response.

This “training” is most effective against boredom barking, and is less effective against territorial behavior or trained behavior.

The unit is effective up to 25 feet away, which also makes it a great option for the NEIGHBOR’S dog(s) that never seem to stop barking. If you have a large yard, or the neighbor’s animals congregate at a certain spot further than 25 feet, consider purchasing and installing multiple units.

Many homeowners report that this finally restores a bit of peace of quiet!

For about 2 out of 3 dogs, the Lentek Bark Free unit will cause results within 24 hours of being installed.

Other dogs may be more difficult, for various reasons, and may require several days or weeks to train. A small percentage of dogs just will not respond at all; for example, some older dogs or breeds with congenital hearing problems are unable to hear the ultrasonic sounds and will just ignore the Bark Free device.

In a few situations where there are a lot of other noises, the ultrasonic sound may be masked or reduced to such a degree that it is not effective.

Most pet stores and online retailers offer a money back satisfaction guarantee on their products. In the case of the Lentek Super Bark Free most dog owners DO get a positive result, so it is certainly worth trying for your unique situation.

Why do dogs bark?

Barking is how dogs communicate, either with each other or with their owner/pack leader.

People talk. Dogs bark. That part is simple.

How do persuade a dog NOT to bark?  Well, that can be more tricky.

Domesticated dogs (as opposed to wolves, a close cousin) may bark for one or more of the following reasons:

  • The dog perceives a threat to his territory.  A bark, then, is a warning.  “This is mine…back off!”
  • The dog is excited, energetic and wants attention. “Play with me…play with me NOW!”
  • The dog is left alone and is bored.  This is a huge problem for apartment dwellers, and those with neighbors in close proximity. You’re away at work and the dog is barking his head off…
  • The dog is fearful.
  • The dog is sounding an alarm.  For example, a car is pulling up into your driveway.  He wants to let you know.  Someone rings the doorbell, he wants to make sure that you heard it!
  • The dog is just being friendly.
  • The dog is exhibiting aggression.
  • Dogs who have poor eyesight may bark out of fear or confusion.
  • The dog wants YOUR attention.  (After all, he IS the center of the universe, right?!)  Attention-seeking barkers will do this when the owner is on the telephone, watching television, or otherwise not paying attention.
  • The dog is lonely.
  • The dog is communicating with other dogs in the neighborhood.
  • The dog is anxious or under stress.
  • The dog needs to go out. “I have to potty….please take me out!”
  • And the list goes on…

So now you know some of the reasons why dogs bark.  Expecting a dog to never, ever bark again would be like telling a person to never, ever talk again!

It’s communication that sometimes just gets out of control. However, there are methods and tools to teach the dog when it’s permissible and when it’s not.

The most important step you can take in getting your dog to stop barking?  Spend time with your dog, build a relationship and trust.  He/she needs to see and respect you as the pack leader.

Why should you use a dog bark collar?

Normally, a bark control collar works when there are your dog’s barking noises. Besides, there are some bark control collars sense the vibrations from your pet’s vocal cords as it starts barking and make correction.

Basically, the bark control collars use a spray, or a light electronic signal, or a sound to send corrective signals to your dog when it barks. The dog will learn very fast the fact that anytime he or she barks, the correction signals of a collar will shoot on him or her. The dog will quickly find out the association between his barking and correction signals from the collar, and stop barking continuously.

The good thing about bark control collars is that they can be used with almost all kinds of dogs and breeds no matter your dog is “hard” or “soft”. However, it’s better for the dog if he or she weighs at least 7 pounds and is at least 6 months old.

Another benefit of a bark control collar is that it does not harm the dog in any way. It will not make the best friend of your family get hurt.

You should have a veterinarian to examine thoroughly for your dog to rule out any medical problems. This examination is an important aspect of any behavioral work-up, and it also helps you to determine if a bark control collar is right for the dog.

One mistake that many dog owners make is that after the dog is trained not to bark abnormally, they stop wearing the bark control collar for their dog. In fact, the dog may need to be “reminded” in order to control his barking from time to time. So, you have to occasionally wear the bark control collar for your dog. It’s good for you as well as the dog.

One another thing to keep in mind is not keeping the collar on the dog for more than 8 hours.

One last thing about the bark control collar you should know is about battery using in the collar. The battery should be charged for 12-24 hours, if it is the first time you charge it. Thereafter, you can charge as long as you want. There is a led light on the collar which helps you find out if the battery is low. When the light blinks rapidly, approximately 2 per second, it is the signal of low battery.

Not all bread machines are worth your investment.

There are bread machines and there are bread machines. In the market, you can get bread machines that are no more than 50 bucks and there are machines that could be as expensive as 200 bucks.

Buying The Microwave Oven: Things to Know Before You Go Shopping

First of all, to make sure your microwave oven shopping experience is the most fruitful it can be, there are few items of information you’ll need to know

Best Microwave Oven

Best Microwave Oven

before you start shopping.  Whether you are going to a retail store or buying online, have the following information handy as you browse through microwave ovens:

  • Know how many people you cook for on an average night.  Also, if you entertain frequently and plan to use the microwave a lot, know the number of guests you will be cooking for. This will affect the size and power of microwave oven you will need.
  • Decide if the microwave will be your primary source of cooking.  Some microwaves are meant for strictly reheating or smaller, shorter jobs; other microwaves are better designed for cooking a large meal or for longer periods of heating (e.g. one hour, etc.).
  • Know the dimensions of your microwave safe cookware.  Will they fit inside the unit you are buying or would you have to buy new cookware / Tupperware?  This could nullify any savings you may find on a particular model if you have to buy new items in addition.
  • Know the features you want to use.  Will you really be using defrost options, cooking options and keep-warm options?
  • Finally, know how much kitchen space you have available.  Whether you are planning on buying a countertop microwave oven or one that can fit in a pre-determined space such as a cabinet or drawer, buying the right sized microwave is essential.

Figuring Out The Best Microwave Oven Options and Styles

There are more styles of microwave ovens available now than in the past so even if you think you know which style you want, you might want to reconsider when you see some of the newer options available to you:

  • Traditional: The most prevalent style of microwave oven, traditional microwaves open with a side-swing door, most commonly opening to the left (handle on the left when facing it).  It can be built into a wall or in a cabinet space. Trim kits are available.
  • Built-in: This microwave is surrounded by cabinets and has a drop-down door like a conventional oven.  These can be installed over your range or above wall ovens.
  • Drawer-style: A recent addition to many microwave lines, this is the latest option for slide-out microwave drawers.  It is typically built-in below a countertop or under an oven for added room, safer unloading options and more convenience of height.
  • Over the Range: Combined with an exhaust hood, this microwave goes over the range helping to keep your kitchen cooler when using your conventional oven (and/or your microwave in tandem).
  • Countertop: Although convenient for those who don’t want permanence in the kitchen thanks to its portability, countertop microwaves take up space on the countertop and have no ventilation systems.  Many models have options for future build-ins and trim kits.

This guide reviews the 5 of the best countertop microwaves available in the market today.

Top 10 Commercial Roofing Installation Mistakes

0

I am not saying there are only 10 commercial roofing installation mistakes that can be made. These are just the most common.

And be aware that there are no requirements to be a roofer in Texas. Now that you understand the field of participants, here we go:

1. Steep slope roofers who install water shedding systems try to do low slope water proofing systems. These fail miserably. Use a roofer who is at least certified with the roofing manufacturer to install their product. Even then BEWARE. Do I have your attention? The number one reason commercial roofing installation fails is due to improper installation.

2. Roofing over wet material. This can cause dry rot, mold, rust and other material failure. It will also cause asphalt roof systems to blister and fail.

Read: Gutter Brush Review

3. Installing a new roof system over two or more existing roof systems. Two layers of roof systems are all that is allowed so as not to overload the deck with too much weight.

4. Wall termination consisting of a termination bar with sealant and no counter flashing. Even though some manufacturers approve this detail, it does not work. The termination bar will deflect during its life and cause a separation between itself and the wall material allowing water to enter.

5. Scupper flashing that is not properly flashed into the collector head or sealed to the exterior wall material. Any gap between these materials will be susceptible to water entry as the water running through the scupper will swirl inside the collector head and find the gap.

6. Roof drains that do not have proper sealant under clamping ring. Same as above. All the water from the roof area is running to these drains and swirling around. Any pin hole opening is like having a hole in the bottom of your pool.

7. Metal drip edge not “sandwiched” into roofing system. If this metal edge is not properly secured or covered the water trying to leaving the roof at this edge will migrate under the edge and be wicked up under the roof membrane via the insulation.

8. Pipe or other penetration flashing not clamped 8” above the roof surface and not properly targeted at the base. With no clamp, water can run down the outside surface of the pipe and into the building. The target is covering a large pipe hole. If it is not done well it has a big hole through which to enter the building. Most targets are installed by hand, not machine, and are more susceptible to human error.

9. End laps of rolled goods not properly lapped or secured allowing seam failure. Again, this work is done mostly by hand, not machine, and is sporadic, contributing to the human error factor.

Bedwetting Is More Common Than You May Think, But There Are Answers

0

Bedwetting is a problem faced by many families. It can be distressing and embarrassing, and can be the cause of much family stress. Bedwetting is not easy to deal with.

Bedwetting amongst small children is very common, extremely so. But usually children grow out of the bedwetting and it is a passing phase for the family. But occasionally it is not a passing phase and becomes more permanent. This is the time where families start to look more seriously for good bedwetting solutions.

And whilst there are many products commercially offered as a good solution to bedwetting, the reality is that often many of them are not permanent solutions.

For example there are diapers and alarms. Both extremely useful in the right situation, but neither necessarily a long term answer. They can be, but often not.

You need to find the cause of the bedwetting

The first step is to try and find the cause.

Finding the cause will take you a long way to finding the answer. Often the cause is medical and treatment of the medical condition can also treat the bed wetting as well. Sometimes there is no obvious medical cause for bedwetting.

So the process of finding an answer to bed wetting can often be a long one. But there is a process, and you usually need to go through it. There is rarely a simple immediate answer.

That’s what our website is all about, explaining bedwetting to you, and offering some solutions. Unfortunately we can’t tell you all there is here, there’s a bit too much. But for those who are seriously concerned about a bedwetter in their family there is an excellent book available to help with the problem, and we’ll show you where to find it.

So browse around our site and read a little, or a lot, about bedwetting. Read our articles, there’s information there as well, and we will be adding to them from time to time.

And don’t despair, there are bedwetting solutions available.

Remington S2044 Damage Therapy Ceramic Hair Straightener Review

The Remington S2044 Damage Therapy Ceramic Hair Straightener with Teflon fiber plates might have you believing it is an inferior, low-end product due to its price. At less than $45, you may be inclined to look a little further up the retail price food chain before you do your flattening iron shopping.

But doing so would provide a costly mistake, and the style of your hair will almost certainly suffer. A powerful little dynamo at a great price, the Damage Therapy 1-inch Flat Iron uses non-stick Teflon plates to provide a damage-free, even heating, “one pass” straightener that can flatten, straighten and curl the kinkiest and curliest, and yes even the most damaged hair.

Also check sedu curling wand reviews

If you have damaged your hair with other straighteners that required several passes, you know the dangers of high heat when applied to your hair multiple times.

The S2044 alleviates the need for several passes by using the same non-stick technology top chefs use in the kitchen. If your hair can’t stick to the Teflon warming plates, it can’t burn and kink. Add the fact that Teflon is a great heat transfer medium, and the total package gets even better.

And because of this premium heating transfer system, your hair needs only one pass, since all your hair evenly lays against the Teflon plates. But be warned; set the temp lower on the Damage Therapy 1-inch Flat Iron than you are used to with your current iron. Teflon throws off heat much more effectively than inferior plates. Since this is the case, your hair is exposed to less heat fro the same result, which means no cuticle damage, and healthier, shinier hair.

Even those of you with more difficult hair will be amazed. One African American customer said she wanted to experiment with it straight out of the box, even though her hair needed washing and conditioning. Her usually kinky hair was straight after one pass on medium heat, and she was sick that she had spent three times as much for other lesser flatteners in the past. She is one of many ladies who reviewed this product on trusted online retailer Amazon, where it received an impressive 4.5 out of 5 stars from previous customers. It is hard to believe that such a low-priced product can deliver such awesome results.

This Teflon plating is exclusive to Remington, and couples with Tourmaline ion emission for zero-frizz results, and improved shine. If you are like me, you don’t care about big words and scientific mumbo-jumbo, you just want results. You want damage-free straightening and shine from your flattening iron without spending a fortune. The Remington S2044 Damage Therapy Ceramic Hair Straightener definitely fits the bill, costs less than $45, Amazon will ship it for free, and it is currently on sale at over 20% off.

Add auto-shut-off and the trusted Remington name, and the Remington S2044 Damage Therapy 1-inch Flat Iron deserves consideration as your next Flattening Iron. As long as you don’t want to overpay for underperformance, pick up the S2044 today, and save enough money to pick up that hot little dress you’ve had your eye on to complement your gorgeous new hairstyle.

Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium Flat Iron Review

With an average customer review of 4.67 out of a possible 5 stars on Amazon, the Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium Flat Iron has one of the highest customer satisfaction scores I have ever seen for a product that has over 100 reviews. I have reviewed hundreds of products in every imaginable niche, and when you realize that most beauty products have much more demanding customers than most other markets, that figure is even more impressive.

The exceptional and fast heat storage transfer offered by the Babyliss Pro Nano has an unsurpassed ability to stabilize high heats and deliver consistent heat with no ups and downs. You know what happens to your hair when you have your heat flaring and dropping. And unlike some flat irons that transfer their heat through poorly insulated rods, your hair does not look dry. It has a moist looking sheen that looks healthy, not burnt. That is never the case with this Amazon best buy that is rated the #2 Flattening Iron in all of Amazon, and is currently more than 50% off, saving you over $90. (That is more than enough to pay for a night out, showing off your beautiful new style.)

This is a professional grade Flat Iron at a discount store price, but don’t think that there is something missing here performance wise. When more than one hundred previous customers chime in to let you know what they think, it is as easy as reading their reviews, looking at the price, and hitting the buy button! Backed with a 4 year “no questions asked” warranty, this flat iron provides all upside. Babyliss has created an absolutely “as close to perfect” flattening iron.

The LED temp settings range up to 450 degrees for faster curling or straightening, and the special process that emits negative ions while using the max high infrared heat delivers results without damaging your hair. The super thin, lightweight design and Babyliss proprietary material used in the manufacture of the rod and cover will never grab or bind your hair.

One happy customer whose story was typical of most of the reviews found on Amazon says her hairdresser “called her Mufasa” because of the massive, thick, abundant and unruly hair on her head. She tried several other flattening irons, most of them much more expensive than the Babyliss Pro, and was never happy until she purchased the Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium Flat Iron. She points out that the extra long titanium plates and high, even heat flatten her “wavy, stubborn hair in one stroke” and she has never received more compliments about her hair before.

We are not all blessed with straight, beautiful, “easy to tame” hair, but the Babyliss Pro Nano Platinum gives anyone beautiful, quick results in minutes, will never damage your hair, and is priced at half of the other Flattening Irons which don’t even perform as well. If performance is what you want, this is the iron for you.

Want to save enough money to go out on the town and show off your gorgeous “new” hair”? In that case, the Babyliss Pro Nano is the correct choice again. So, if you want to have that perfect, straight, silky smooth hair that Pop and Hollywood Stars spend hundreds to achieve, get the Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium Flat Iron, save over 50% (about $85) off the regular retail and get free shipping when you order from trusted retailer Amazon. Kinky, unmanageable hair today, silky-smooth, gorgeous flat hair tomorrow.

Turboion Rbb Croc Classic Straightener Review

Review of the TurboIon Rbb Croc Classic Straightener

The TurboIon Rbb Croc Classic Straightener with 1.5 inch black titanium plates is a quick-heat, high-heat straightening tool / flat iron / curler that handles any hair care task you need. With a high max temperature of 450 degrees, and a super fast heating element, you will not have long to wait for “one pass” straightening. The longer than average 1.5 inch plates ensure better coverage and stability, and the silver coated cover is plated twice. This keeps the handle from getting too hot, and helps you focus on your hair, not your hand.

The ceramic “nano fine” heating element is the best in the industry, and not only heats up quickly, but “learns” temperatures very well. Whatever heat setting you use this time will return the same amount of heat when you use that setting again. One really cool feature that helps cut down on mistakes from forgotten settings is the memory temp feature. Every time you turn the TurboIon Rbb Croc on, it returns to the previous settings you used last.

Priced right at about half what you pay for underperforming similar models, the standard 9 ft. power cord has an ingenious 360 degree swivel housing that allows you to use the iron in any position without bothersome cord tangle.

The swivel cord feature ensures that your concern is on styling your hair, not worrying about cord whip and pulling the plug out of the wall. And the 9 foot length allows you to stand up while styling in a full length mirror. Too many flat irons have a 6 foot cord which doesn’t allow you to see the whole picture you are creating when you style your “do”.

I checked with several customers via their Amazon review, and a resounding number had spent much more money on big brand names that were hotter in the handle, took forever to heat up, and didn’t heat evenly. Across the board, customers with varying types of hairstyles and thickness raved about the TurboIon Rbb Croc Classic Straightener’s ability to heat up fast, deliver even heat, and cool down rapidly.

And ladies with African American and Native American ancestry noted that, as one happy purchaser said, “NOW, with the TurboIon Rbb Croc Classic Straightener my style time and amount of product usage is cut in half with even better results. I have had so many friends, including my own hair dresser, comment on how healthy and shiny my hair looks.” That says it all right there.

The fast cool down time frame is great, especially if there are kids in your house, and the TurboIon Rbb Croc Classic performs admirably as a curler as well, thanks to the large 1.5 inch plates and constant heat. And the iron’s plate temperature is readily available right on the handle in digital readout. It is no wonder that professionals love the TurboIon Rbb Croc Classic Straightener and depend on it to make a living.

All that performance excellence is great, and you may be prepared to pay over $150 for a straightener that is so versatile. Fortunately, this customer favorite will not cost anywhere near that.

Currently more than 50% off (yes, you read that right) at a savings of more than $75, you can pick this product up at the guaranteed lowest price on Amazon.com, and they will even throw in free shipping. With $75 back in your pocketbook, free shipping, and outstanding reviews from professionals and home stylists alike, your online shopping trip is now over! Pick up the TurboIon Rbb Croc Classic Straightener and spend your savings on that dress you’ve had your eyes on, and look awesome from head to toe.

Remington S9950 Shine Therapy Straightener Review

The Remington S9950 Shine Therapy Moisturizing and Conditioning Digital ceramic hair straightener is more than just your run of the mill flattening iron. Remington knows flattening and straightening your hair is just one step in your hairstyling process.

The Shine Therapy 1-Inch Flat Iron delivers up to 86% more shine than conventional flatteners and straighteners, using the special Remington Style Therapy system of hardware design and ceramic plate infusion. The ceramic plates are infused with vitamin E conditioning products and avocado that help retain a moist look, and healthy hair that does not get cuticle damage from over-heating. The way hair is overheated and damaged by poorly made flatteners is avoided with the ceramic floating plate design. More of you hair contacts more of the plates, thereby ensuring minimal time exposed to heat. And the S9950 heats up to a sizzling 430 degrees in 30 seconds, so straightening stubborn, thick hair is no challenge.

The heat display can be digitally monitored with a glance at the conveniently located readout on the handle, and don’t worry about having to replace the avocado and vitamin E that treats your hair to a healthy, shiny appearance as well as flattening. The patented ceramic plate moisturizing process is guaranteed to last at least 4 years. The release of hair-healthy avocado and E vitamins through microscopic pores in the ceramic heating plates goes unnoticed, but the result does not. You have shinier, healthier, glossy hair than ever before without adding expensive creams and heat conditioners.

Now getting salon quality hair in the comfort of your own home is simple and affordable. Ceramic is the secret here, because it is so versatile: it holds heat longer, disperses heat evenly and lasts forever. But adding the conditioning and moisturizing effects to the ceramic is what sets the Shine Therapy 1-Inch Flat Iron apart from standard ceramic heating plates. This minimizes damage and is warrantied for 4 years, ensuring beautiful hair for years to come.

This incredible hair styling tool also works on dual voltage, so traveling is a snap. You will never be without power, wherever you go. Remington knows that you respect style, so the Shine Therapy 1-Inch Flat Iron is wrapped by an attractive sky-blue and silver housing, and the controls are located where they make sense, allowing for quick access. Afraid of accidentally changing the temp with your hand while you work? The controls have a lock setting that ensures error-free styling and lets you keep your eyes on your hair. The swivel housing keeps the cord tangle-free as well as your hair, and a neat plus is the accompanying styling tips guide that teach you exactly how best to utilize the Shine Therapy 1-Inch Flat Iron to get the desired result.

For less than $60 you may think this product is low end, but the only thing low end is the price. Backed by the Remington name and carrying rave reviews from previous customers, your next Flat Iron purchase is a no-brainer. Pick up the Shine Therapy 1-Inch Flat Iron online today and show off healthy, shiny hair tomorrow.

Farouk CHI 1 Inch Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron Review

Chi 1 Ceramic Flat Iron Review

The Farouk CHI 1 Inch Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron is truly in a class by itself, and not only in the beauty industry. How many products do you know that are among the top 2 or 3 in their class … for 6 years?! Technology usually kicks devices to the curb every couple of years, but this amazing professional beautician’s and hairstylist’s tool has remained the #1 most popular and best selling flattening iron on Amazon.com out of over 2,000 flatteners even though it was released 6 years ago.

More than 1,500 ladies stopped into Amazon after purchasing and left reviews that show an overall 4.55 stars out of 5. To say that this flattener / curler provides show-stopping, runway model looks is an understatement. It functions as an excellent curler as well, holds and delivers constant, even heat, feels good in your hand, and the results are stunning. Users with even “really thick, frizzy, wavy, curly hair” said their prep time before straightening was more than cut in half, and the end result was more than they had ever enjoyed.

If you usually have to go through the rituals so many ladies perform just to get ready to style your hair, you can now skip many of those timely steps. In the past, with inferior flattening irons, many women had to wash their hair, blow dry by sections with a rounded brush, then go by small sections of hair with a flattening iron. Several passes were needed to get the desired result, and if it was humid or muggy outside, the effect died almost instantly.

Not so with the internet’s best-selling Farouk CHI 1 Inch Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron. Shower, towel dry, and “CHI” your hair, a single pass, and you have straight, glossy hair that looks like you were born with it. 15 minutes tops, and regardless of the outside weather conditions, it stays ALL DAY! Most users remarked they did not need any frizz control product or serum, and it works equally well on gray hair, which is sometimes too brittle for conventional flatteners.

Straightening, flattening, curling and flipping are all easy with the swivel cord design. You can worry about your styling rather than a tangled, bothersome cord. And if money is tight, don’t worry. You will pay less for the Farouk CHI 1 Inch Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron than you will for an inferior product at your local discount warehouse. Not having to spend money over the years in improvements, since it was dead perfect the very first time, the manufacturer can pass those savings on to you.

You will spend around $90, which is over 50% off. With all that extra paper in your purse, why not pick up some CHI Straight Guard Smoothing Styling Cream or CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray that was specifically designed to work hand in hand with the Farouk Chi flattener? You will still have enough to enjoy a night on the town showing off your new style, and more importantly, you can count on the Farouk CHI 1 Inch Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron to provide years of eye-catching, beautiful hairstyles.
