If you are a snorer, you are probably looking for a way to resolve the problem, which can have serious effects on both your professional and personal life. One way of stopping snoring is to use a MAD or Mandibular Advancement Device, which functions by holding the lower jaw firmly in a forward position, preventing the airways from being restricted and the vibrations that result in snoring from occurring.

A MAD sits inside the mouth and pushes the jaw into position, tightening up the tissues and muscles and making the throat more open with the result that breathing is easier and noise-free. PureSleep is one of these MAD devices which has been designed by an experienced team under the helm of Dr Douglas Fenton, a dentist from San Francisco, to alleviate the problems caused by snoring. This affordable product offers excellent value for money and is very effective for the price. Let’s take a closer look at one of the most accurate Pure Sleep Reviews.

What is PureSleep?

PureSleep is an MAD device which holds your jaw in a forward position to prevent the tongue falling back into the throat and thus causing an obstruction to the airways which causes snoring. PureSleep is a little different to most MADs as it is composed of two pieces rather than one.

The lower and upper pieces are connected using one of 3 settings and the setting you choose controls the amount that the lower jaw is pushed forward. Once you have connected the pieces you simply use the boil and bite technology to get a custom fit. While this allows for an excellent fit, it does mean that the setting is unable to be changed, so you will need to make sure you get it right on the first attempt.

It is also harder to clean than single piece devices due to the increased number of crevices which harbor bacteria. This product is FDA cleared and is manufactured in the USA using no latex or BPA. It also features airflow holes to allow for mouth-breathing during the night. It lasts for around 6 to 9 months before requiring replacing.

How Does It Work?

The PureSleep device is an MAD devices which addresses snoring by ensuring that the lower jaw is pushed forward and held in the correct position to keep the throat open. It also acts to keep the tongue firmly in place so that it is unable to fall backwards resulting in the vibrations that cause snoring. This oral appliance causes the muscles of the throat and jaw to tighten and thus reduces vibrations from the loose tissues. Thanks to the integrated airhole, breathing is easy throughout the night.

The Fit

Unlike most other MAD appliances, the PureSleep arrives as 2 separate pieces and this means that you need to pay close attention when it comes to the fitting process. There are 3 positions to choose from to allow you to find the most comfortable fit, so take the time to choose a position that will not hurt your jaw as once you have finished the boil and bite part of the procedure you cannot remold the product.

Once you have chosen the position of your choice, simply snap both sections of the device together and put it into hot tap water to soften the moldable components. Remove the device from the water and allow it to cool to a safe temperature before putting it into your mouth and biting down to create a mold of your jaw and teeth. You should bite down for 45 seconds in order to allow it to set and cool effectively. Once this time has elapsed, put the device into cold water and it will set to a hard finish.

Does PureSleep Really Work?

As long as the PureSleep oral appliance is properly adjusted to a comfortable fit for you and correctly molded, it is an effective solution to snoring. Users have reported that their problem was greatly reduced and even was eradicated completely after trying this product. While some people experience some drooling and jaw pain, this generally subsides after a short period of use.pure sleep reviews

There is no doubt for those that find the perfect fit and use it as instructed, the PureSleep will get the job done. However, with so many other mouthpieces on the market, there is always the chance that there is another that will do the job better.

Company Information

The PureSleep device was created by a dentist from San Francisco called Dr Douglas Fenton. As a snorer himself, he paired up with Noel Lindsay, a fellow sufferer, to work on a product that would resolve the problem. For around a decade, Dr Fenton had been prescribing mouthpieces to his patients to cure their snoring, however, these appliances cost around $400.

He therefore saw the potential of retailing anti-snoring mouthpieces at a much more affordable price, and so the PureSleep Company was established in 2007. While there have been some complaints filed about this company, these were mostly about shipping and billing, and these issues have now been fully resolved.

How Much Does PureSleep Cost?

Compared to many comparable devices, the PureSleep appliance represents a good value deal. With their Buy-One-Get-One-Free offer, you can purchase two devices for just $59.95, with shipping costs of just $10. This averages out at just $35 for a single device which is affordable.

Occasionally, you may also be able to take advantage of another special offer from the manufacturer where you pay just $9.95 plus shipping costs and you can try the device for 30 nights at which point you can return the device without having to pay any extra. If you are happy with the product, your card will be charged the full amount at the end of the 30 day period.

Should I Buy PureSleep?

The PureSleep device is a good value solution for your snoring, made by an established and reputable company and designed by a professional dentist. It is manufactured in the USA using only safe materials that are free of both latex and BPA and it is an FDA cleared device.

Thanks to the integrated air holes, it is possible to breathe through your mouth while you sleep. There are 3 settings available with this product allowing you to obtain a custom fit, however, you are unable to remold the device a second time, and therefore it is important to get the right fit first time.

You should buy PureSleep if you are searching for a product at an affordable price that is effective in stopping snoring. It is an especially good deal if you can try the product for 30 days for just the cost of shipping to see if it meets your needs. However it is not the most comfortable product on the market and there may be alternatives that are easier to mold and also simpler to clean.

Better Alternatives to PureSleep

There are several other MAD devices which are simpler to clean and which offer more opportunities for remolding should you make a mistake on the first attempt. Read more

  1. One such product is the VitalSleep which offers a micro-adjustment feature as well as coming in two sizes so you can select the one that best suits your mouth-size. Equipped with a generous air hole, the VitalSleep is also free of latex and BPA and has been cleared by the FDA. Coming in at the same price as PureSleep, the manufacturer will replace this product for a full year.
  2. Another alternative is the SnoreRx device which has several excellent features including a large air hole and a solid single piece design. Designed by a qualified dentist, this product is cleared by the FDA and is free of latex and BPA. It is covered by a 30-day guarantee and will custom mold to your jaw in under 5 minutes. This device is also very affordable, with an offer of 2 for $88 with inclusive shipping.
  3. A third alternative is the ZQuiet, which is in the same price bracket as the PureSleep but is more comfortable to wear. Ready to use straight from the box it features Living Hinge Technology which enables the wearer to move their mouth freely, being able to talk and even drink water while wearing it. Thanks to its airflow posts you can even breathe through you mouth during sleep, and it is produced from latex-free and BPA-free materials.

Conclusion

The PureSleep device is an affordable choice for anyone who is looking for a cost-effective way to stop their snoring problem. Made by a reputable company that has been in the industry for several years, this appliance has been designed by an experienced dentist and has been rated as very effective by the majority of users.

While there are some downsides to this product in that it can be tricky to adjust and cannot be remolded in the event of making a mistake on the first try, if you are able to achieve a comfortable fit on the initial attempt this is an efficient and comfortable product to wear. Thanks to the integrated breathing hole, this device is also a good choice for those who prefer to breathe through their mouth during the night.

It is also made from safe materials in the USA, with no BPA or latex, so you can be certain of no irritations or detrimental health consequences. In short, the PureSleep device is a good value stop snoring solution that is recommended by many users.

Old Review

Forgive me if I am wrong.

But my guess is that you are reading this page because you have had enough of snoring. It is either you or your loved ones.

Statistics show that as much as 30% of guys who are aged 30 and above are snorers. And two-thirds of married couples report that their partner snores.

But is there a permanent solution to snoring?

This is one of the most common questions that we get from our readers.

So, we decided to give our take on one of the popular snoring solutions: Pure Sleep.

[su_note radius=”6″]

Review Summary

While PureSleep is a moderately good anti snoring mouthpiece, it is by no chance my favorite. The two mouthpieces I have found to work surprisingly well are ZQuiet and GoodMorning Sleep Solution.[su_row][su_column size=”1/2″]

ZQuiet (which is our most recommended mouthpiece) uses a method that dentists have used for many years to cure patients snoring issues. It is engineered to work right out of the case with no preparation needed.

This is a much cheaper program than spending hundreds of dollars at the dentist.

The ZQuiet anti-snore solution has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration to safely and effectively treat snoring issues.

The main reason why most snore products don’t help is that they attempt to treat the problem from the back of the throat when the actual problem must be conquered at the lower jawline.

A widened airspace must be created in the back of the throat to prevent excess vibration of the surrounding soft tissue. And this is exactly what ZQuiet does. You can see how it works here.

The Goodmorning Snore Solution is a mouthpiece-based device that uses an innovative design and approach to address chronic snoring conditions without exerting some of the side effects that come along with other stop snoring solutions.

This anti snoring mouthpiece is extremely simple to use as one just needs to hold it between the thumb and a finger and keep it in between the front teeth and the lips.

The snoring mouthguard in a way acts as a plug that would not allow any air to enter the mouth cavity as you sleep. It is even easier to remove, as you just need to twist the tip of the device and remove it from the mouth.

The amazing thing about GMSS is that it is extremely comfortable to be worn overnight. As compared to the other devices of the same category, it is barely felt when one wears it.

Back to PureSleep Review: A Little Background

puresleep reviews

You have probably come across PureSleep on ABC’s Good Morning America. It is marketed as the ultimate snoring solution for men, babies and women.

What you might not know is the interesting history behind this awesome snoring mouthpiece.

Pure Sleep was invented by Dr. Douglas Fenton, a dentist based in San Francisco. The idea was to come up with an effective, yet affordable snoring guard for his patients.

For more than a decade, Dr. Fenton had watched as physicians prescribe a similar device to patients. And believe it or not, most of the physicians would charge a whopping $400 for the simple snore guard.

Seeing an opportunity to create a more affordable and easily accessible anti-snoring device, Dr. Fenton went to work in his lab.

The result?

Pure Sleep was born. It is currently the number one selling mouthpiece for snoring.

PureSleep: Review and Unboxing

It is one thing to say that PureSleep is the bestselling mouthguard in the world. But does it really measure up to what the manufacturer says? How effective is it compared to other snoring mouthpieces?

PureSleep falls in the category of anti snore devices that are known as Mandibular Advancement Devices (MAD).

Mandibular Advancement Devices open the airway by moving the lower job forward. This increases the size of the upper airway and reduces air resistance that contributes to snoring, and in some cases sleep apnea.

In essence, Pure Sleep reduces air turbulence and thus completely stops snoring.

I read all the PureSleep reviews on the official PureSleep website before I ordered this. But I still wanted to take it for a test drive.

I was a little bothered by the fact that I had to answer an unending list of questions (21 questions to be precise). Most of the questions are yes and no questions…but still… 21 questions seem to be a little on the high side when the concentration span of most of us has been on a gradual plummet.

Granted that the company uses the questions to measure whether you are a right fit for their device, I mastered enough patience to read and answer all questions accurately.

After going through all the questions, I was finally greeted with the order page, which is as confusing as the questions that you are supposed to answer. The order page shows the price as $59.90, which makes you wonder what happened to their $9.95 trial.

It is not until you get to the payment page that you are offered the option to choose whether you want to pay the full amount of the two snoring mouthguards upfront or whether you want to take the $9.95 trial first.

PureSleep reviews Payment

The checkout process was nightmarish; would the stop snoring devices be any better? I just had to wait and see.

The package arrived in the mail after a little over 72 hours. I was genuinely impressed with the speed with which it shipped, but would it live up to my expectations? Only the night would tell.

My Experience with the Pure Sleep Mouth Guard

PureSleep arrives in your mailbox as 2 separate pieces with instructions on how to assemble it to achieve a custom fit.

I have tried different anti snoring devices before, but I am still to see one that has the level of adjustment offered by PureSleep. Since we all have different jaw positions, it makes sense that all snoring mouthpieces should be adjustable.

But the level of customization that the device offers can be an advantage as well as a disadvantage. On the positive side, you are able to set the device to an almost perfect. But you can’t change the positions once you have set it.

It took me a little longer to decide on the position that would serve me the best. I approached the whole process with a lot of caution as I didn’t want to mess it up.

Recommended Device: SleepRight Dental Guard

The time I spent deciding on a custom fit paid off at night. The moment I put the Pure Sleep anti-snoring device into my mouth ready for the night, it felt as if it was custom-manufactured for me!

The material, BPA and Latex free plastic, felt so smooth in my mouth. Needless to say, I woke up the following morning feeling well rested. My wife admitted that she didn’t hear me snoring.

I continued to test PureSleep over the next 7 days, and the more I used it, the more I became convinced that it was one of the most effective anti snoring mouthpieces. It is right there in the league of Zyppah and ZQuiet.

Preparing PureSleep Mouth Guard for First Time Use

pure sleep mouthpiece guard

To create a custom fit:

  1. First select a position that feels comfortable yet keeps your lower jaw in the advanced position. NB: Choose your setting very carefully as it cannot be reversed once you select it.
  2. Once you have selected a position, secure the device in place by snapping the upper and lower positions.
  3. Heat a pot of tap water to the recommended temperature; drop the snoring mouthpiece in the water.
  4. Remove from water and bite for a few seconds to mold PureSleep into your teeth’s shape.

It is possible that you will experience some discomfort within the first few days of use. This is normal with these types of devices. However, the discomfort should disappear after repeated use.

How the PureSleep Mouthpiece Works

The PureSleep anti snoring mouthguard, like many other snoring mouthpieces, works by pushing the lower jaw forward. It keeps the jaw in the right position, ensuring that your airways remain open.

Pros and Cons

PureSleep Mouthpiece was the second anti-snoring device that I was testing. I rather liked it. But I won’t lie that there are no facets of it that left me a little disappointed.

Here are what I would consider as the strengths and weaknesses of the device. If you’ve also tested PureSleep, kindly feel free to add to the reviews.

PureSleep Device Pros

  1. I liked the fact that you can mold the device to fit your mouth
  2. The free trial is definitely a plus (keep in mind that you have to pay for shipping)
  3. Did I mention that PureSleep has an Air Hole that allows you to breathe through the mouth?
  4. PureSleep is made from BPA- and Latex-free materials
  5. It has clearance from the FDA

Cons

  1. Once molded, the setting cannot be readjusted
  2. First days of use cause jaw soriness
  3. The complicated checkout process would have been a turn down if I didn’t need this so much

Should I get PureSleep?

Definitely. You have nothing to lose by trying it out. When shopping for a mouthpiece for snoring, the thing to keep in mind is that what works for me may not necessarily work for you.

There are more than 100 anti-snoring mouthpieces in the market, and without a good review, it becomes hard to decide which one you should buy. The best option is to take advantage of the various free trials offered by manufacturers, and personally take the devices for a test drive.

However, if you do not have time to trial all of them, I recommend that you put your money on the Zquiet Snoring Mouthpiece.

  1. very irritating the offer of $9.95 shipping. It’s a bait and switch, which isn’t very honest. Makes you not want to do business with them…

    • Hey Nick,
Thanks for sharing your experience. It looks like the PureSleep company was acquired from its original founders and the services went downhill. If you ever need a mouthpiece that works well (at least for me), I’d recommend you get ZQuiet or the GMSS

  2. I tooke advantage of buy one get one free, except that they would not honor a defect in the free one that my wife used and it broke.
Their warranty is crap, like the quality of the device.

    • Hey Salvatore,
Sorry for the poor quality you received with PureSleep. It used to be a good device, but their services started going downhill somewhere at the end of last year. We’ve had similar PureSleep Complaints from most of our readers. That’s why we stopped recommending it as one of the best snoring aids in the market today.

  3. I have been using PureSleep for years. It is the only device I will use. It works. Period.
I will say the ONLY downfall is you have to replace them every 2-3 months because the silicone that molds to your teeth will wear out which causes your top teeth to fall out and your lower jaw to fall back. In other words they are not a permanent device. So bank on buying about 4 of these a year.

  4. I prepared Puresleep to the exact directions and tried it for the first time last night. It is a nightmare! First, even though I waited 15 minutes after heating, it felt like the inside of my mouth was burning when I fitted it. All night long, it poked my cheek and it hurt. I got up this morning an my lip is swollen and the inside of my cheek has a big sore. This product is dangerous!

  5. I think Donna Chollett was paid to make these negative comments or did not follow molding instructions. I, like Darzworld, have been using PureSleep for years. It works from the first night. I will say the ONLY downfall is you have to replace them every 2-3 months because the silicone that molds to your teeth will wear out which causes your top teeth to fall out and your lower jaw to fall back. I would love to have the choice of buying the original model.
Still, PureSleep is the only device I will use and I have tried many. ZQuiet is a joke. It comes in 1 size that does not mold to your mouth, was too big for me, has very high, sharp edges, and it hurts my gums.I guess you get what you pay for.

  6. I’ve had 4. They work for about a week up to maybe a month and then become loose fitting or come apart altogether.

Should be priced at about ten dollars as you will need to replace over and over.

  7. Very in depth description of the product. I have a large over bite. How does this product work for people with this issue? Thank you for your time and effort to answer my question.

  8. This hurt my teeth and jaw intensely so I was unable to wear it through a full night but I tried on three occasions. What’s worse is their customer service. To start with, I only received half of my order. After waiting on hold for an eternity I initiated a return and got a bunch of attitude when I mentioned my delivery was incomplete. And no, I don’t want you to send the rest since I already want to return this one. I mailed the mouthpiece back as required and was told to wait up to 4 weeks for a refund. That credit never materialized and when I last called to check up on my $ they claim the device was never received. Guarantee these people are crooks.

  9. Terrible company with terrible customer service. Try calling them to get the vibe of the operation before you but these devices. Does not honor their return policy after I found the device to not work for me. Additionally, I only received half of the order I paid for. Total crooks.
